The short version is 2:53, including the NPG Operator segues.

The long version is 3:01, without any such segues.

Both have been released, the first on the Interactive CD-Rom, the second on Crystal Ball.

.

No other studio version is known to exist (though the one in the Beautiful Experience film is a slightly different mix, with live crowd overdubs, of the short version).

.

I've always suspected, however, that the long version included on that May 1994 configuration of TGE was the long version WITH the NPG Operator segues, as it wouldn't have made much sense to remove the segues entirely in that specific context. But no such version has been documented to exist, which may mean that I'm totally wrong OR that only the tracklist is known (i.e. neither elite collectors nor the Uptown team are in possession of any recording of it, therefore they couldn't tell).

Oh ok.thanks for the info. When I read longer version,I imagined it being 6 minutes or so.Oh well, maybe it exists in the vault somewhere.

It wouldn't be surprising if such a version existed indeed nod

Personally, i would go with the following

1. Endorphinmachine (the Dawn version, without the cowbells)

2. Days of Wild

3. Dolphin

4. 319

5. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

6. Chaos and Disorder

7. Interactive

8. Shy

9. Eye Hate You

10. Gold

I think that would be a spectacular record. Plenty of raw and heavy rock, some funky stuff, good ballads, the whole mix.

I know "Zanalee" wasn't intended for this project but such a cool blues rocker would fit in there as well.

Could not resist!

I think just stripping out the NPG operator segues, and restoring the original version of Endorphinmachine... this would be enough to fix TGE for me. Oh and maybe strip out some of the unnecessary sound effects library bits in other songs, such as TMBGITW.

Does anyone remember the "Golden Experience" tape copying thing that happened when it seems TGE might not get a studio release? My memory is playing tricks on me, was that any different from the studio version later released on CD?

I remember in 1994,a friend made me a cassette tape featuring the songs that were gonna be on the album."Eye Hate U" was a poorly recorded version that was played on the loudspeakers before one of Prince's concerts that year. You can hear a guy saying "This sounds like "Joy In Repetition",right?" lol on this tape,"Endorphinemachine" was slightly different than the version that was released. It sounded better to me...more raw and less polished.

To my knowledge, no proper configuration of the album leaked be4 its release. There were a lot of boots featuring various versions of various Ulysses/Come/TGE/Exodus sessions tracks though. This tape must have been one of those.

I can't prove it but I'm pretty sure that if Prince had put version 1 or 2 of Endorphinmachine on TGE and version 3 had leaked, everyone would say that they prefer version 3 lol
.
I also think the reason why so many people criticized many TGE tracks for being overpolished is because they're Dylan/Springsteen fans. Funk, pop, synthpop or electronic music fans in their right mind could never fancy such a notion (the first one to say "I'm a funk fan and yet I..." is to write 100 times "I will not be the statistically insignificant counterexample"). lol
.
I'm kinda pulling y'alls legs, of course, but I'm kinda serious as well wink

"The Gold Album" (1994 cassette configuration) with "Strength", "Angie" and "The Jam" is one of the leaks I'm hoping before I die.

I absolutely adore TGE but to have it released with Days of Wild and Acknowledge me (two of my top favourite Prince tracks) included would of taken it to another level for me. I imagine he probably just didn't want too many hip-hop type songs on there and wanted to balance it out a little.

But damn, just imagining a tracklist of TGE as it is now including those two songs- fuuuuuck.
