Bizarrely, during the D&P era Prince's guitar sound was reported as including the BOSS Metalzone stomp box, which is generally considered by guitarists to be one of the worst pedals ever released by BOSS. Still I guess Prince something he wanted out of it, that sort of "swarm of bees" thing, which worked with all the extra processing he used in those days. | |

I'd recommended the Undertaker set, the songs on there have hard rocky edges. Pretty damn awesome, in fact that is something I'd love to see remastered and brought out on a commercial release, that would be the shit! | |

Also 3rdeyegirl is worth checking out, in my own personal opinion he was the rockiest he's ever been with those girls, check out the end of their "I could never take the place of your man" and you'll see what I mean, they do a great rocky version of "guitar"! The big metal one from them though has go to be the live Plectrumelectrum, it's all guitars and drums, class! | |

Reminds me of Led Zeppelin’s The Ocean. I do think there were times when 3EG rocked as hard as anyone out there. I remember after 3EG performed on SNL Justin Timberlake tweeted about it the next day mind still blown. I often wonder how nervous Donna must have been playing with a guitar legend like Prince. The comment on Sister from 1988 is close...an interlude during the Vibe television show was a also a beginning. Mike Scott was on guitar... I heard from someone at Paisley once that Prince would occasionally play something you would not believe just to show whoever was present, that he could. This person mentioned Primus being one band he'd play... |

Being a pretty big fan of metal myself, the absolute closest he got to it (for me, at least) was the last two tracks off of Small Club (the renditions of "It's Gonna be a Beauriful Night" and "Rave to the Joy Fantastic"). Even though it's essentially him just soloing, the suite is incredibly hard and heavy. I wish he ventured into that territory a little more than he did. It could have yielded some pretty amazing stuff. Im shocked Im the first one to mention it, being that Small Club is essential listening for folks like us. Get in your mouse, and get out of here! | |
