Those three songs are an EP within an EP. I can do without the other NPG remixes before that. But those three tracks are so great. And "Loveleft Loveright" almost feels like a really good demo. The key change and the layered vocals really demands a choir. It's gospel-esque. the Steeles could have layered vocals on there and had an Andre Crouch Choir feel on it. He was all ethereal around that time anyway, so it would have made sense.

Either way, it's the best of the three.

Great EP - and I agree with TrivialPursuit. The weaker tracks are the remixes of New Power Generation. Get Off, The Lubricated Lady and Loveleft Loveright make this disc a must-have.

My favorite Prince song from 1989-1991. The way the various rhythms coalesce toward the end is mindblowing.

New Power Generation is one the worst Prince songs ever and I remember this EP being the first time I bought a prince item and regretted it and wished I could return it.

No idea what he was trying to do in this period but Prince chasing New Jack Swing was worse than Prince chasing hip hop.

Don't forget there are two different tracks with that title: "Get Off" the b-side and "Gett Off" the a-side. Note the spelling. OP was speaking of the b-side track.

Ha, ha! Good one! The idea would be Prince-like. The execution might have sounded like R. Kelly, though. Maybe he'd a' layed some linn drum over it also to emphasize his own sound?

hmmm

to further confused things is "Glam Slam 91" (which shares a lot of lyrics with "Gett Off") which samples "Escape" the b-side of

"Glam Slam"!

Yeah... surprising just how radically different it is.

Along with 'Loveleft/Loveright' and 'Lubricated Lady' it makes the EP a must-have.

No. I'm saying "Get Off" and "Gett Off" are two entirely different tracks on entirely different albums/singles. You said "Gett Off", which wasn't mentioned here.

I like the Funky Waepon remix quite a bit, and it also is related by ways of some percussion textures to "Thunder"

No way this is one of his worst songs ever - there are far too many songs that followed that we are much, much weaker than this one - but yes, there is something very derivative, uninspired, and bland about the song. It truly marked a change in direction for him from his music sounding like no one else to him chasing trends, something he had not done since 1979.

Quite a few songs on this album suffer from this problem. Contrast that from the Batman album where, even if some of the song ideas weren't brilliant, at least they sounded uniquely Prince.

NPG I always liked that song. More so the lyrics than anything. It was the sound of a "new beginning".

Yes the lyrics at least expressed a nice "LoveSexy" vibe but musically its pretty dreadful. Are there worse blantedly trend chasing examples (with no redeeming lyrics at all) that come later in the 90's? (Mr. Happy? There'll Never Be Another Like Me?) Yes, but this song is where it all started.

'Loveleft, Loveright' is the only decent song on the EP imo. The tracks 'T.C's Rap ' and 'Brother With A Purpose' are typical 90's rap crap and not the way I'd like to listen to a Prince song. 'Get Off' (with one t) is mediocre, same with 'The Lubricated Lady'. The song of this topic is funky and has great guitars and well produced vocals.
