When people say 90's Prince and look dismissive, play this track from the blindingly ambitious Love Symbol album.

There is always something spectacular amongst everything he has done, however folks will always find fault, sadly there are lot of fixed minds in the 🌎. It's like the folks who say I don't like anything post 80's so they miss all his recent work and bizarrely all his current variations on his early 80's work, go figure, simply there loss!

Great album, cool song. I always overlooked this track at the time with the other more dynamic songs all around it. But in later years it's grown on me. I didn't appreciate the range in the singing at the time.

Back when I could still hit those high notes, I used to sing this song at karaoke. Every time I sang it someone would always come over to me afterwards and ask me who originally sang the song. And every time I said Prince they would have a shocked look on their faces. Some would be like 'No way!' I would have to show the non-believers the cd and lyrics booklet that came with it to prove it to them. I loved it!

You must have been a good singer back in the day then!
I remember a reviewer at the time saying it was like vocal gymnastics.
One of his best ballads IMO

It's one thing that bothers me now is that I can't hit those notes anymore. I keep on trying but just can't do it. I wish I could because it would be my own tribute to Prince and I could spread the joy around.

Don't even sweat it. The video is now OFFICIALLY on Youtube, which means we can OFFICIALLY spread the joy of Prince's spectacular glory in this song around - in tribute to him - to our heart's content! nod

Damn shame such a masterpiece gets this bland "me myself and I" video.
I prefer the song to remain abstract, I don't get this narcissistic lip-syncing.
No budget for a symphonic orchestra, I see.
Give me the betacam of "Paisley Park" any day instead of this Hollywood self-absorbed postcard.
The song deserved better than yet another shot at Prince's face. Not that he isn't cute.

It may be his most complex. It requires proper audio conditions, it's so dense.
Fantastic arrangements, incredible 3D production, Love Symbol has everything.
Give a spin to its Funny Cousin, "Exodus", whenever the Opera starts to feel too heavy to bear.
What a band.

I like the version on Arsenio. Especially the "I'm on fire...til you come and put me out."

That's a dirty line, in retrospect. I always took that figuratively. That's our Prince!

Love the guitar solo, too. I think it was Levi. Nothing that Prince couldn't do, though.
