Music is a fantastic way of escapism. It can take your mind and soul to distant places.

I was just wondering what you think of when you hear certain Prince songs, like:

1) "Venus de Milo" - I imagine I am in either Nice (surprise, surprise),Bombay, or somewhere in Spain...some 50, 60 years ago. Surrounded by the tranquility of each setting...the hot sun beating down on me. With beautiful vistas and surroundings...and the ocean. A deep blue, cloudless sky.

2) "Alexa de Paris" - See above, or remember the setting from UTCM where this song was featured...? Remember the lovely ocean and the sun reflecting off of it...that's where I wanna be, that's where I wanna be.

3) "Strollin'" - Once again, in Nice or Spain, driving around in a convertible, with the sun shining down on me...heading up a mountainside, with the ocean glistening in the distance.

Kind of a dreamy and self-indulgent thread, but some songs just inspire really vivid images in my head. Which songs inspire such things in you, and what are those things/fantasies?

a lot of the parade album is very visual to me...

Do Me Baby seems to trigger a nice image...

especially the end of the song...

what a nice vivid mind imagery it is!

Parade forces you to vizualize what he's singing about.All part of it's charm.

Parade's like a box of crayons to me, even though ironically the whole design concept is black and white...maybe it's a coloring book and the music is the colors...huh.

Anyway, lots of stuff from "Come" makes me drift off into lalaland..."Space" and "Come" particularly...but the winner of the daydream inducement awards for me is Crystal Ball - that shit takes me to Narnia.

Insatiable...up and down, just like a see-saw, back and forth. Can you get a visual on it, ...need I say more.

The court room bit in I Hate U gets me thinking...

black album and lovesexy with all the buried conversations, characters, sound effects, narratives, lurid and fantastic lyrics and emotions...

"Space" -- Takes me to a beach in some tropical paradise, walking along the edge of the surf, looking up at a black velvet sky studded with stars. Kinda like that scene in Contact when Jodie Foster meets the alien guy.

"Hallucination Rain" (Surprise!) -- A small club, a very laid-back crowd, low lights from the candles on the tables. Prince building the solo on his guitar instead of the violinist. Everyone swaying slightly, totally hypnotized.

"Digital Garden" -- A completely different dimension, but parallel to our own.
