Your post indicates you don't know what it is - and Prince's statement indicates he didn't know, either.

Of course, there'd be a demand for it - if people understood it. How do I know? Because people have been begging for more Prince concert videos for years - and that's what this is.

Personally, I would love to see the 1986 birthday show as a hologram. Or the 2009 Montreux shows or Lovesexy Dortmund or 1981 Ritz or any number of aftershows. I'm not sure the technology is there yet - but it'd be cool af.

Why would you want to see a hologram, when there IS actual video of Prince performing those shows? The technology has come such an amazingly long way that, yes with a lot of money and effort, it could be done but watching a hologram would never be as cool as watching Prince himself! EVER!!! That money and effort would be better spent on putting out what already exists.

So again I say...

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

What the hell are you talking about? A hologram of Prince would be Prince, too. They'd take the concert videos (which already exist) and create holograms of them.

Are people being deliberately obtuse or what? confuse

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

What the hell are you talking about?

These are the Tupac and Eazy E holograms at Coachella:

And the so-called Michael Jackson hologram at the Billboard Awards

That's what we are objecting to being done with Prince and there's nothing obtuse on our end about it!

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

All it does is start an uproar with the fans. They have to keep posting these troubled posts like it's any of her business. Apples, Sheila, Jill, the list goes on and on. Maybe she needs to get in contact with Tyka.

Personally I think Tyka's idea with the hologram is a great idea.

I'm trying to keep an opened mind. But that uncanny valley affect has got me nervous. At a distance for a long period (about an hour or so) it shouldn't create a problem but up close as viewed on a monitor you'll be left with a long-lasting creepy sensation, one you really don't want to associate with your memories of Prince.

You do realize that the hologram is nothing more than an existing video, right? They crop out the rest of the video and show just the performer.

No, that is not correct. They are actually photo-realistic computer generated animations. I know because that's what I do. Companies like Hologram USA are buying "resurrection rights" of dead celebrities left and right, to be pimped and peddled through the here ever after. Prince gave his absolute all while he was here and there's more than enough material of HIM - in all of his spectacular glory - for his estate to make money off of, without having to do that.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Yes, from what I understand, they’re a mixture of body doubles, motion capture, 3D models and stitched video material (for the faces etc). It’s quite gruesome. These holographic projection methods have a lot of creative potential if used in an original way, but attempts to bring the dead back to life in this way are grotesque in my view.

That said, I think that Prince was a little short-sighted to disregard VR as a whole in the quote above. We’re probably not that far away from being able to stream live 360 degree 3D video to people with VR headsets - the next best thing to actually being at a gig. You'd always have the best seat in the house. You could even set up a camera array on the stage itself.

honestly... screw this shit... it's so "not prince"

the "estate" needs to consider what he would have wanted when making decisions

i'm scared of talentless people controlling all this... shit can get tacky real quick

No thank you. I'd rather miss Prince and support someone else playing live music now than try and recreate the past. Obviously Prince's wishes hardly come into this, hello he's on Spotify, so I can see it happening but no matter how good it was it'd still just be a pale imitation.

A video is one dimensional. A hologram can move around you and you can move around it. I never saw Prince in concert, and the idea of watching a hologram concert is frankly very exciting to me. I would pay good money to see it, and I imagine it would be very successful in arts centres and other such venues. I think it can be done tastefully. I would like to see Bowie like this too, although I have seen Bowie in concert. Two heroes.

The whole hologram thing: they've come a long with way with the technology, but it still seems as if the graphics need time to be refined more where it doesn't look so otherworldly (read, a bit too obvious that it's a hologram). The more life-like they can create them, then yeah. It's a bit like videogame graphics. As time goes on the technology for that gets more sophisticated where characters depicted in a video game look almost human. Perhaps in another five years the techies who develop the software for that sort of thing will have a major breakthrough in how lifelike these holograms can look. Even if they do a Prince hologram, there has to be something about that and the show that translates, where you almost forget it's a hologram. The potential and the source material from all of his past tours creates limitless ideas. If it were me, I'd wait at least another five years or so to try gathering ideas that float about how to assemble a show based on a hologram of him. It's early days yet. The heirs and the estate still have to settle in to get shit sorted out to be on the same page enough for something to happen. Time takes time. And all that good stuff. Peace.

It isn't about tasteful. Prince plainly said it wasn't what he wanted or believed in. What else is there to discuss other than the selfishness of peoples wants and the greed of peoples pockets, *cough* Tyka?

Its a pity Prince isn't around to make a good "hollow-gram" joke about how empty an experience it'd be compared to the real thing. Man loved his puns.

several of the times I saw him live was very close (close enough to touch and yes I did) and he made tons of eye contact and gave nods and grins... so this is not something I would go to see... but this is up to the estate and to those that might want to go...

Yeah, how does a hologram make eye contact, point at you, and nod and smile in approval... Happened to me; it will never happen with a hologram... confused
