I'll make it easy and pick things that are complete and ready to go, so we don't have to wait forever on this stuff.

2. DVD box set of live shows from SOTT, Lovesexy Dortmund, The Nude Tour Tokyo, Diamonds and Pearls Tour London, Act I Detroit, Musicology Detroit, 21 Nights In London Sep 13, Welcome 2 America North Charleston, SC 3/30/11, Welcome 2 Australia, Brisbane, 5/18/12, Welcome 2 Chicago, 9/12, 3RDEYEGIRL HitNRun Part II Paris, 6/1/14, and any others that are ready to go

Why so many orgers are asking for material we already have ?? Does a legit release change anything to the sound ??

With all the unheard material lying there in the Vault, I really can't get it.
[Edited 8/12/17 10:43am]

I am a younger Prince fan (age 31) and I would like hard copies of his albums that are out of print. Yes, it is possible to buy out of print albums online, but I have no way of knowing if the albums are legitimate copies or bootlegs. It's insane that Diamonds and Pearls, one of his best-selling albums, is out of print.

First of all, thank you so much, June7, for organizing this. It is wonderful to get direct feedback from the estate, and I hope such correspondence can continue somehow.

I think this presents an amazing opportunity for fans to get involved with upcoming releases. Just a suggestion: maybe we should use this thread to collate ideas, and the top 10 or so can be put into a big poll such that the most popular options are presented to the estate? We could advertise such a thing widely among the community through Facebook groups and other purple outlets.

As for my picks, it is really hard to limit it to just 2, but I'd decided on the following:

1. Lovesexy Deluxe, as follows:

  • Disc 1: the album with 9 separate tracks

  • Disc 2: The Black Album: these albums are forever paired in Prince lore, and this would be an opportunity to cement their union as demonstrated in the Lovesexy Tour

  • Disc 3: an outtakes disc, preferably containing the final configuration of the aborted Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic album as well as the other considered tracks as bonus tracks (15 tracks total)

  • Disc 4: Livesexy on DVD

  • Disc 5/6: Audio (video?) of the famous Small Club performance

Why? It serves several needs by releasing one of Prince's most fan-beloved albums in tracked form (a streaming version of which would likely help boost streams), releasing Prince's most notorious bootlegs in The Black Album and the Small Club performance, a fully sequenced unreleased album which overlaps with Small Club ("Rave" and "Still Would Stand All Time"), and a digital version of one of his most celebrated tours.

2. Piano and a Microphone box set, containing at least the first show at Paisley Park and the last show at Atlanta. A more deluxe version could contain a selection of other shows or highlights therein (not my idea - I believe there was a thread here recently which proposed something like this).

Why? Prince indicated that he was working on the Atlanta show for subsequent release anyway, so it would be a touching way to continue his wishes and show off to the world what an amazingly intimate and powerful tour it was.

I strongly disagree with those turning up their noses at suggestions of content that has been previously bootlegged. I feel that if you've enjoyed content that Prince didn't officially release over the years, you owe it to his legacy to support the material if given an official release. Just because you and I have heard this content does not mean that it should remain officially in the Vault, and new fans curious to explore the mythology behind Prince's Vault deserve to be rewarded with tracks that most of us know and love. I was very touched when "Moonbeam Levels" was officially available for the world to hear, and I didn't think twice about buying it because I already had it unofficially. Prince has a lot of great songs that are widely celebrated among the fan base despite not having an official release, and those songs deserve the recognition of an official release.

Of course, we all want to hear stuff that is unknown to us as well, but given Sharon's response to the question regarding a premium subscription service, I'm sure the estate is aware that the hardcore fans will gobble up just about whatever is put up on such a service.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

If they are going to release the gala dvd it must be both complete shows. They tell a story and his entire final official concert at Paisley must be preserved and given to the fans. It was so special. Every fan must get th chance to experience it.

I have an idea :

The Beautiful Ones- a collection of unreleased ballads and music that he made for the women in his life. This could perhaps tie into the work that Prince was contemplating (or beginning?) near the very end of his time here that Omar Baker mentioned.

I would also love to see a carefully curated version of the piano and microphone tour.

Could the mods make a poll out of all the suggestions so that people can vote? I mean, this is going to be a nightmare for the Estate to decide on.
Maybe they're giving us a taste of what their current situation is, regarding choices and decisions...

- A complete "First Avenue" boxset with video (where available); all shows he did there...

- Get in contact with WBR and PROFESSIONALLY remaster an archival edition of "For You" and get in contact with Chris Moon, Tommy Vicari, band members, engineers and archivers to collect as much material and info as possible for such a release... And do the same for the rest of his WBR releases...

And steer clear from the people who designed that horrid "Purple Rain" deluxe thing and instead make it sturdy and not a cheap looking and quickly degrading digipack...

Or simply said: spend money to make money...

- Release the completed albums like the album between "Purple Rain" and "Around The World In A Day", "Dream Factory", "Camille", "Crystall Ball", "Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic", "Heart" and everything in between and after...
Compile them with a bonus disc with the alternate versions, demo's, song recorded during those sessions that weren't specifically for any albums etc.

- Open up a website and organise it by date and release every single show from a tour including the afternoon soundcheck/rehearsal, support act (where he usually played along with the act backstage), main show and aftershow (where available)... Video releases of these would be perfect too...

- Release a compilation of every cover he recorded in the studio...

- Release his versions of released songs/albums by other artists (where available)...

- Release the complete footage that were used for documentaries.

- Release his short movies.

- Release albums of his musical ideas with the alternate versions of released and unreleased album tracks.

- Release rehearsals that contain basic and initial versions of released and unreleased tracks.

Neversin.

Here are my top 2 picks/suggestions:

1. A compilation that includes all the music Prince recorded before the release of For You. This would include the 1976 Home and Moonsound studio recordings, the Loring Park Sessions, and the Sound 80 studio recordings.

2. The professionally shot concert footage that was to be used for the Second Coming movie including the unfinished movie scenes.

Yup - this is absolutely correct.

And definitely not some "Crystal Ball II and III" nonsense - this stuff needs to be curated and collected together into an intelligible story and put into context - not just a grab bag of tracks people think they'd like to hear.

I saw you'd said, 'done and done' earlier then couldn't see where the poll was, I rarely go to the front page now. It's kinda disheartening that Black is the New Black doesn't have more votes. It's our last chance to get close to contemporary as it was happening Prince. There's years for the rest to come out.

nod Well said. Also, while it's probably gonna take some time for ANY of this to see an official release, I'm sure the stuff like Black Is The New Black will be at the forefront of what is to be released even if it isn't the first thing put out from the vault. It'll all be out eventually.

I'm not much a fan of live music on CD... I'd rather be at the concerts. I'm much more into the studio stuff. I'd like:

.

- "The Dawn": all the relevant tracks (especially the rumored, mythical "electric" version of "Welcome 2 The Dawn")

.

- remastered "Sign 'O' The Times" with as many unreleased-or-rare Vault tracks as possible

.

Those two things would make me giddy with joy.

I'm glad to see that the golden era outtakes is what people want most. But does it have to be in the form of Crystal Ball 1,2 and 3.
Wouldn't 3 box sets of studio outtakes of 83-85, 85-86 and 87-89 be much more interesting?
