There are many good books, new and old, and some old ones that are out of print. Regarding the old ones, make sure you read Dave Hill´s "Prince .. A Pop Life". It is a bit dated and hard to get but it is still one of my favorite Prince biographies. People say that Prince liked it a lot, too. Lots of interesting info in it, and interviews with many people, including Sonny Thompson BEFORE he became part of the NPG. Great read. And of course anything by Per Nielsen. And the Alex Hahn books (controversial but I like them). " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I might buy Touré´s book one day but I consider him one of the purple band wagon hoppers as well. His writing style seems to be more about him and his life than Prince, actually. He´s ok but I don´t see why his bio good so much support from so many people. He and Neal Karlen seem a bit shady to me, and I don´t care if they were supposedly close to Prince. The one I´m really looking forward to is the one by Duane Tudahl.

I liked his Rolling Stone interview and thought he was a nice guy with a lot of knowledge and a serious connection to Prince but I started hating him when I saw him being interviewed. He came across as a coldhearted, cynical, scheming asshole. And like a smartass. I bet he is going to come up with an interesting Prince biography one day, and I might even buy it, but I really can´t stand that guy so I think I´ll buy a used copy.

The thing I appreciate most about Toure's book is his astute Capturing of the gen x generation if u are gen x it resonates. Also his theory of how perhaps prince partnered with God to walk Others who would have perhaps said "no I'm not a believer" Prince Made them say "oh yes lord I believe" I also think people who love Prince are kinda resentful because he challeanges that notion inside themselves. Not wanting to believe yet unable to deny That the experience he took them on did bring them closer to God. My feelings.

That´s one of the things I dislike about his book even though I understand why you like it. Didn´t you ever get the feeling , while reading the book, that it´s more about Gen X and all those other things and Prince´s impact and less about Prince and his life? Just curious...

yes i do feel the author chose a unique perspective with this book, it is unlike any other it stands alone amoung the others, as far as discussing his impact on gen x' ers in particular and why in particular for us that we so immediately accepted or aligned or recognized his message/music/agenda. he address as well why the generation before us liked him as well, there was no new vernacular to learn etc. the podium from which he stood was familiar.
i think that we know about his life so the retelling of that as story has been done albeit to differing levels of accuracy and sucess. but this was a different book, for sure it was look at his impact, if your wanting history this book isn't it. best!
