The Truth vs One Nite Alone..Piano and Voice Which do you prefer? I reckon this is really close, both album's are low key and intimate. I really can't decide which one I like better, gonna call it a tie. We're here, might as well get into it.

I very much prefer The Truth, the 2 first tracks are Prince classics, and more great songs as well, later on the Cd. Prince 4Ever.

The Truth is much better than One Nite Alone.

However much I like it, I always thought The Truth ultimately failed to live up to what it's supposed to be: The resulting songs are neither 'intimate' nor do they retain a true 'acoustic' sound (clad in effects and many overdubs). One Nite Alone, on the contrary, really has that intimate feeling.
They are too different to make them compete with each other; but if I had to chose one, I think I'd go for 'One Nite Alone' [Edited 8/10/17 1:08am]

ONE NIGHT ALONE:
Far more memorable. Also has the advantage of NOT being tacked onto a mostly subpar 4 disc set. I'd always been a shaky "vegetarian" in my teenage years and ANIMAL KINGDOM really resonated with me (*no member of the animal kingdom, nurses past maturity"...leave your brothers and sisters under the sea) [paraphrasing it] but ONA had Prince at his most "IDGAF" with Avalanche (*U.S. history of murder, carnage and exploitation) and one of his most incredible vocal performances "A CASE OF U" (*which some of u lucky ppl got to witness live) Also a seductive opener, a strange positivity trip "young and beautiful" ; Prince at his well- meaning -ist but ill advised lyrics (*gotta love that man, he didn't give a ...care, if it was honest expression) ... But more so had the wonderful autobiographical diss "PEARLS B4 THE SWINE" which i feel is among some of his best songs ever output As for Avalanche. ..whether 100% factual or 86% factual with some references used "out if context" it's still a significant measure of the man to include a song that would potentially fracture his audience. (Yea - from the book by Lerone Bennet Jr) I could've done without OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR though....too contrived. Change the words and you've got something. Nothing knocking THE TRUTH it's pretty damn good and for someone like me who didn't like 4/5 of CRYSTAL BALL (doesn't help that quite a few are alternate takes if already great songs) .....THE TRUTH actually WOKE ME UP from the induced disappointment that CRYSTAL BALL was....it had me paying attention at first listen. I marveled at it. I wondered "how? " "why. ...at the end of all THAT? " But my friends, Prince was Prince. LOVE HIM. [Edited 8/10/17 2:11am] ♫"Trollin, Trolling! I call a tie also..
However The Truth is the Album I introduce People who only relate Prince to Puple Rain
It never fails to eleicit...WOW>..this is Prince ? Never knew he could write Music like this..
The Truth is easy listening, and is pared back enough so that people become familiar with that space between the sounds that Prince played with so very well..
Plus I love love that Bit where he goes..
But the choice U make, it ain't no piece of cake. It ain't no motherfuckin' piece of pie
I can mimic it perfectly...
Including the part where his voice cracks breaks and kind of growls all at the same time...

ONA by a loooong way!! . There's maybe 3 or 4 tracks on The Truth I can bear, but ONA is 90% gold... and A Case of U may be a cover, but it's fantastic!

The Truth's high points are higher than ONA's. However, as an ALBUM... ONA flows better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, in my opinion. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

What are your highlights from The Truth? I quite like Welcome 2 The Dawn... because of the history of that title... but the rest I'm not sure of. Comeback is pretty good, except the "That sweet wind was you" line always makes me laugh.

Easily The Truth for me. One his most underrated albums, mainly due to it being bundled in with Crystal Ball.

Basically, everything you said.
I wonder what a Prince 'acoustic' album would have sounded it like if he had recorded one in another era. The Truth was in the era of Newpower Soul and Rave - probably his least acclaimed period.

Like both but play ONA way more. I love the flow and the consistent mood tone throughout the set. Avalanche and A Case of You are top drawer Prince.

The Truth by a long mile. Neither is perfect, but the Truth has a handful of top rate songs. ONA is a bit meandering and sounds more like improv Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

For me, ONA...hands down. 'Liberate My Mind'

Both are fantastic albums but if I had to select one only, it would be 'One Night Alone...Piano'. Life Matters

Better playing on ONe Nite Alone. Better songwriting on the Truth. The truth overall is the better album and has better lyrics as well.
