Mayte has to have know that lots of people would not be happy with her book, and some of those people would act out. You can not have the upside (the money, a little air time, and reinserting herself into princes world, etc) without the downside. this type of thing is par for the course when you set your private life out for public consumption. 99.9% of people have no idea who mayte is, the person that spray painted did it at paisley because it is one of the only places where people would know who she is...
I agree 100%. When you put yourself out there, you have be perpared for the reaction you are gonna get whether it be positive or negative. IMO, I think she should have waited until at least a few years after Prince's death to write a book. P's ashes wasn't even cold yet when she announced she was releasing the book. Still it was wrong for the vandalism. |

People not liking the idea of her book is one thing. People carrying out any type of 'action' are, to put it mildly, mentally unstable.
They can't differenciate the line between their own emotions and the impact on others.
Worse still, vandalism at PP shows their loss of reality. If they were really Prince fans, they would know that would be the worst thing to do.
There does seem to be an increase in 'Crazies', we've seen it on here since 21/4/16, where some people live in the threads about his death, and gossip and bitch, but don't even seem to own much of his catalogue of music.
Their 'grief' is actually a projection of their mental state, rather than the loss of a musician they didn't know, and by the sound of it, didn't understand what his music was about.

Did she not consider what her book's "impact on others" might be given the depth of their grief? It's not something she would have missed. Obviously the dirt thrown on Prince's name & the impact on those grieving for him was not a concern. Five months after his death the book was announced, to be released on the first year anniversary of his death. I've seen him labelled a number of nasty things since the book promo, I'm talking about OUTSIDE of the fanbase & in the mainstream media. Funny how people have amnesia concerning that. It's not going anywhere fast. Her word has become part of the lore now, forever to be referenced as fact, forever to be built upon. For the record, because some love to get it twisted - I'm not advocating vandalism or stalking/threatening. |

I believe it was announced that she would be writing a book in 2015. The book was not released on the anniversary of Prince's death. Just an FYI because some like to get it twisted. |

Yes, correct, 2015, for some reason it never happened while Prince was alive... FYI the book was announced in the press five months after his death with a April 21st release date. There were threads on this very site at the time. For some reason it was later changed to April 4th... |

You're right in that it wasn't criminal or illegal; it could be viewed as an act of "violence" though against his fans and relatiatory violence tends to escalate. Mayte made choices - releasing the book, the timing of said release, the interviews leading up to the anniversary, the headlines and what she chose to focus on and discuss in mags and interviews - and, like the rest of us in this universe, she'll have to deal with the consequences of her choices. She can't keep making those choices and then blame others for the outcome. She's not new to the publicity game. No one condones any kind of illegal activity against her, but I think a lot of people aren't surprised by it. If nothing else, I hope she's surrounded herself with better advisors as a result and listens to them. God is my Sugar Daddy. |

No it cannot be seen as an act of violence against his fans.
And not dealing within the realm of civilized rational conduct. That is a dangerous thought process. And if there are people who think like that, those same people will and can respond 'irrationally'
The government nor the Judicial system nor the Heavenly courts will condone or protect an individual who acts out that way.
A whole lot of people are suprised by it. |

They may be surprised by the act itself, but I don't think people are surprised by the backlash. Several people on this board have pointed that out and if you've read any of the comments on the interview pages she did or Youtubes, you'd have seen it there as well. God is my Sugar Daddy. |

It was harmless and actually relatively insightful. I read it and thought it was quite good. Aside from the creepy, weird wannabes and groupies who want to speak for Prince and "protect his legacy" for their own self centered reasons, no one had a fucking problem with it or even really read the damned thing. It was a relative fart in the wind.
The backlash or whatever it is, and the vandalism...It reeks of jealousy and folks wishing they had been HER because, of course, THEY would have done things DIFFERENTLY, you see, and ultimately wanted to be the woman who was fucking Prince and hearing him say he loved them for being so dedicated, receiving the flowers, the songs, the poems the jewelry and the fancy wedding. If THEY were married to him, Prince would have never strayed and would not have even died.
THEY understand him and could have taken him on a different path. Never would have left him alone that fateful night, would have gotten him treatment, etc. "I could have changed him". Fixer upper and all that. This shit is dark as hell and I'm continually astonished at some of the stuff I read on here since his death.

Yeah, but who knew him better than she did, especially during his "name change"/weird period?
People also forget, she was fucking SIXTEEN when he first took an interest in her, and he was, what, 30 or 35 or something? If so many people here who don't worship everythig this guy did, they'd rightfully find that creepy as hell. He chose her because she was easily controlled and molded, like most people he surrounded himself with and, to a certain extent, SHE was exploited by HIM. Probably to the greater extent.
Not saying she's a 100% innocent little dove - nor her mother - and who knows what ulterior motives they might have had but Prince went along, made her a huge part of his life, shaped her, MARRIED her, formed who and who she is and she's allowed to write about that and her experiences without the threat of retribution no matter what anyone says about what they would do or not do. Or write or not write.
She knew him better than anyone here.
Prince is dead and is not around to complain anymore. The only thing we have left is his music and those that knew him or what they are willing to share (Or not share). He did what he wanted. Let the living do what they want to do and be free. if I had a book about Prince in me, I'd write that motherfucker, and you'd all read it - but I never knew him and don't pretend to so I have nothing to offer - but maybe folks should BTFU, let others be free and most especially lay off the vandalism.
I feel comfortable asserting that Prince would not be down with this particular brand of bullshit, so whoever it was, if you won't confess (I'm almost certain it's someone who posts here) or repent, at least knock that shit off.

I'd agree with some of your statements if the backlash didn't occur immediately after she announced the book (both times in 2015 and 2016) and if it wasn't around the issue of his privacy. In 2015, nobody presumed to speak for P since he was still here and the book wasn't released. He had attorneys in place at that time. The privacy thing was again raised the second time she announced the book, so much so that Meltedman was in here trying to "calm" the waters by saying "you'll love him even more after the book." Didn't happen either. I do agree, though, that it was a relative fart in the wind. God is my Sugar Daddy. |

So you don't have a problem with her book?
And no matter what she is called or what she is accused of, it's still all about blaming HER for Prince's actions. Which is compatible with blaming HER for the graffiti. Like a bunch of six year olds. [Edited 8/4/17 15:38pm] |

So everyone that didn't like maytes book according to you is female?...and the only logical reason for females to dislike her book is jealously?...could it be possible that female prince fans have a brain? And may actually not like some of the stuff in her book for other reasons?...it is a shallow perspective to believe all females operate from the perspective of jealousy and nothing else. My personal belief is very few females are jealous of maytes 20 year old relationships with prince, as according to her book there was way way more pain than pleasure. and interestingly females can actually process this information and the majority would pass...I acknowledge the majority would stand in line for an evening, but not for the painful entanglement... All Paisley Park vandals to be locked up in a cell with a piano under MN dictat {imaginary number} how many pianos are left in the world? Like proper builders pianos, not yamaha digital pianos - you could grade every prisoner by the quality of piano they're locked up with.
And you're not getting out until you can play this Ravel flourish - on a shit keyboard that is impossible to perform on. Now that's cruel and unusual! i wish i'd never kissed your lips, bearded lady |

So you don't have a problem with her book? not that my perspective on her book has anything to do with your statement, but to answer your question, I did not like her book...I also do not think she is a whore..so? |

So everyone that didn't like maytes book according to you is female?...and the only logical reason for females to dislike her book is jealously?...could it be possible that female prince fans have a brain? And may actually did not like some of the stuff in her book for other reasons?...it is a shallow perspective to believe all females operate from the perspective of jealousy and nothing else. My personal belief is very few females are jealous of maytes 20 year old relationships with prince, as according to her book there was way way more pain than pleasure. and interestingly females can actually process this information and the majority would pass...I acknowledge the majority would stand in line for an evening, but not for the painful entanglement...
But if I read Mayte's book it'll make me look like a fag! Ha ha, only joking internet blah blah stop typing it's not funny i wish i'd never kissed your lips, bearded lady |

This is just my opinion, the vicious verbal attacks against her and the graffiti are one thing, disliking her book is another. It could be I just wasn't referencing you in my whore statement. Good on ya. |

Fair enough, but as a divorced male, I feel confident asserting and knowing that she can do whatever she wants.
She had a life too, and it was very largely connected to Prince and his controlling demeanor. If anything, she peeled back the curtain a bit and shined some light on his true nature. I doubt it was always pleasant; candles, songs, cute notes, money, flowers, make up and incense notwithstanding.
She was fucking SIXTEEN, folks.

So you don't have a problem with her book? And no matter what she is called or what she is accused of, it's still all about blaming HER for Prince's actions. Which is compatible with blaming HER for the graffiti. Like a bunch of six year olds. [Edited 8/4/17 15:38pm]
Not addressed to me but no, I do not.

I didn't say "All" and am only going by what I read right here on this board.
I actually called her book a "fart in the wind' that "no one read", male or female, but hey...I'm not the person spray painting mean graffitti at PP either, calling her a "bobble head" or a "whore" or worried about how the media portrays Prince's demise and dreaming up ways that he may have been murdered.
I meant no harm and did not mean to be sexist or overly categorical. I am comfortable asserting that SOME Prince fans ARE FEMALE and SOME of them obviously have a problem with his first wife and her book - be it because of the timing , the content or whatever, and wish they had had the chance to be her, so please accept my apology and lighten up a tad. That's all I meant. I don't give a single fuck if you liked Mayte's book, read it or not, or even gleaned anything useful from it. I honestly do not.
I've been here a LONG time and the shit I've read that people have been writing over the last year positively blows my fucking mind. I didn't mean to catch you in the crossfire and meant no disrespect whatsoever. MOST (NOT ALL) of the Mayte hate SEEMS to be coming women. Perhaps I am mistaken. |

I'll just put this out there for some thought. As chucktown1 stated, "When you put yourself out there, you have be perpared for the reaction you are gonna get whether it be positive or negative." According to you, if "they" can't differenciate between their own emotions and the impact on others, is not Mayte in the same boat? Did she not consider what her book's "impact on others" might be given the depth of their grief? It's not something she would have missed. People on this board are still having a hard time coming to terms with it. A little consideration for them might have gone a long way. Can't close the gate now the cows are out.
You hint at loose justification for some peoples actions. I won't call them Prince fans, because they aren't, whether they think it or not. Prince would utterly condemn them.
Not that I would condemn any illegal physical action, but if that was to play out, I fail to see how any violent action at Prince's home is anything but insulting his memory.
The people that have done this are the lowest of the low, and do more to tarnish Prince's legacy than Mayte ever could.
Simply, the people/person that did this are utter fruit cakes who understand nothing about Prince and place their own perception of grief (for a person they never knew) above the genuine feelings of Prince's family, Paisly Park and Prince's genuine fans. . |

I agree...I just think mayte and her book are no different than any other pop culture type social topic...a big chunk of people will like it, a big chunk will not like it, a tiny fraction will adore her and her book, and a tiny fraction will hate her and her book...I think this applies to pretty much every subject. Most people are not fanatics, but you are always going to have a small fraction of fanatics on both sides of every issue... |
