I do not understand the hatred that some people (who are mostly women) have toward Mayte. Notice that Prince never publicly defamed her or insulted her. He made some references to her on The Rainbow Children album, but not by name. He wasn't vindictive toward her after they divorced.
.
Prince really doesn't have enemies, does he? The coverage and publicity of his life and death since 4-21-16 by reputable media outlets and people on social media has been nuanced and detailed, but overall, mostly positive and celebratory. There is virtually universal consensus regarding the importance of his musical contributions and his status as a legendary musician. He was not perfect, but rather was a complex, flawed, gifted, and giving human being.
.
Defaming Mayte does nothing to defend Prince. People don't like that Mayte wrote a book about her life with Prince. Get over it! Some feel that she should not have shared about their son. If he was so concerned about Mayte talking about their son or going on Hollywood Exes or writing a book, he had 16 years in which to pay her enough money to sign a non disclosure agreement (NDA) and keep quiet about their relationship. He didn't do that.
.
The only thing she shared in her book that I dislike was when she suggests that he had someone burn Amiir's ashes and baby things. This information is hearsay because she wasn't there to witness it, and therefore, she should not have shared it. She should have said that she asked him about the whereabouts of Amiir's ashes and he refused to respond to her questions. Other than that, nothing she shared in the book was damaging to him. Is it so hard to accept that he was unfaithful? No, people have speculated on the org for years that he cheated on Mayte.
.
Mayte was very sensitive and tasteful when writing about their son's short life. In my opinion, she humanized their son and gave him an identity by using his name and sharing about how important he was to she and prince. Her descriptions of prince as a father are quite possibly the most heartwarming, flattering, and beautiful descriptions that I have ever read about the man. He was a model father while Amiir was alive, and I'm glad that the world knows this about him, and that it is a part of his legacy.
.
Devin Devasquez wrote a book with some juicy details about she and Prince's sex life, but I do not hear or read much of any vitriol toward her. Many more people are going to write books about their relationships and collaborations with Prince. I suspect that a lot of the hatred toward Mayte is jealousy, because she was married to Prince and the haters were not.

I don't think it's just about the book, unfortunately. I think their hatred of Mayte began many, many years ago. I think their hatred of her began when they learned her mother gave Prince a VHS tape of Mayte dancing. They began to view Mayte, at that time, as a "gold digger". The fact that Prince ended up marrying her only cemented their hatred of her. They act as though Prince had no ability to be discerning of people. They act as though Prince had no sense, whatsoever, to be able to determine motivations of those around him. It makes me mad, because they don't understand that their views of these women also reflects their views of Prince. For every person they see as a "gold digger" taking advantage of poor, innocent Prince, is a slap in the face to Prince, because it is stating that Prince was not mature enough, intelligent enough, wise enough, discerning enough to be able to make his own judgment of people and what their true motivations were. So to them, Prince was somehow lacking in his mental abilities to see what they were about, or he was just too innocent and naive, and so they MUST act as his protector and vilify those they deem were not worthy of him.

Growing up the way Prince did, you lose that innocence and naivety at a very young age. You learn quickly how to intuit what people are about, and read people. And you become very mistrusting of people, and they HAVE to prove themselves to you. Yes, sometimes people will slip past your radar because you want to see the best in them, but that only intensifies your radar for the next one. Do they honestly believe that Prince was that incapable?

Prince was 33/34 years old when he met Mayte. He was 37 years old when they got married. He was old enough to really be able to determine her motivations and who she was. If he had believed she was a "gold digger" he would not have married her. Prince was not a stupid man and he was very discerning and always aware of people's motivations. What they are doing reflects on them and their lack of understanding of who Prince was and says absolutely nothing of who Mayte is and who she was to Prince.

To me this isn’t even about Mayte. It’s about the lack of respect some people have for other people’s property. Some of the stuff spray painted that had nothing to do with Mayte still showed a complete lack of respect. These aren’t fans paying tribute they’re goons who are bored and apparently have nothing better to do. Put some surveillance cameras down there and a big ‘ol sign that says no writing on the sidewalk. The sign should be a city sign since they own the sidewalk.

Yes there are a few on the org like that too, not least someone with no problem using 'typos' M1 M2 and Orince (lol). Their hate runs so deep they have to use a pseudonym for Mayte.

I think the reason Mayte gets so much hate from these cretins is because they blame her for their sons passing & 'breaking' P, leading him to become a JH. Now he's gone they feel it's open season. Some probably aren't even fans & could just be doing it because they're disturbed individuals like the woman with the megaphone. I kinda hope they do it again so they get caught, arrested & shamed.

Prince fans wouldn't behave in this way. Anyone who has listened to his music and his message wouldn't condone this type of behaviour. Hopefully his fans would find appropriate ways to vent whatever they felt about whomever without resorting to such childish "ish". Not cool.

yes Benni, I totally agree with your comment, especially the parts that I bolded. (They met in July of 1990, so he would have been 32. It's a minor detail; you were pretty close with 33/34.) He was a grown man when he met and married Mayte. The hatred says more about the haters, for sure. Some people are just hateful, jealous, petty, and need to GET A LIFE!!! Prince had a hard childhood, but he didn't go around being hateful toward his parents. Instead, he channeled his energy into making music!

I hear that about how people dislike that she is profiting off of his death, but then where is the criticism of The Revolution for profiting from his death by going on tour? Many of the Mayte haters don't seem to mind that Devin Devasquez wrote a book about her relationship with Prince. Susannah Melvoin is selling Starfish and Coffee tshirts and mugs, and no one seems to have hatred toward her. Warner Brothers made a bunch of money when Prince died because he was the best-selling musician of 2016.
.
Seriously, the US has a capitalist economy. The mere act of remembering Prince is most likely going to generate money for someone. What's worse, forgetting him or people making money off of remembering him? In most cases, I think forgetting is worse.

.
Vandalism pointed at any one person is dangerous.
It's pernicious, much like Mark David Chapman came to hate his idol.
In this case, ANY woman associated with Prince is seen as a threat, a competitor and even blamed for his death.
Whoever said Mayte should move, is correct.

Please, stop with this business that "their hate runs so deep they have to use a pseudonym for Mayte." There is nothing "hateful" about using M1 and M2 as a quick reference to Mayte and Mani and the only one who sees it as hate is you apparently. I use it all the time and I have no hate for either woman nor any of the other women in P's life (is it okay if I refer to him as P?). If I say OF4S instead of OldFriends4Sale, is that showing my hate for the mod? How about if I were to say Luv, instead of Luv4U? See how silly it is to make abbreviations all about hate rather than the shortcuts they really are? Now you're going to twist a typo, Orince, into something different, hate speech? I saw your first comment and thought it was hysterically funny. But of course you had to ruin that and start with your nonsense once again as you always do. Why are you always stirthepot ?

ETA: Oh, and just as an aside, it really and truly is okay to have an opinion about others. Differences in opinion do not equal hatred.
