Yeah... at first I thought it was a fake, too! And according to Princevault he recorded it in 1986! The year in which he did so many of my favourite recordings! It's just unbelievable to me! NPG Radio:

There was a thread recently where someone said something like "people who don't like TGP, have no soul or heart" or something. I was like "ok then!....." lol. It was a strange comment. But yeah, I find it overrated too.

There's a reason most of these tracks were kept in the vault! . It's easy to get excited about hearing rare tracks, but 9 out of 10 (or more) are worse than the released album tracks, and I'm glad he made the right choices.

Based on what is circulating, I'd say the quality of the unreleased songs is actually pretty close to the quality of what was released. "Lisa" would be my favorite song if it was on Dirty Mind. "Strange Way (Of Saying I Love You)" would be in the top half of Controversy. "Moonbeam Levels" is my favorite song ever, and "Extraloveable" and "Purple Music" would be likely top half on 1999. "Father's Song" and "Electric Intercourse" would be in the top half of Purple Rain, etc. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Near the end he add libs the melody "darling it seems i have found the grand progression whenever i'm innnn your arms yeah" - it would give me chills. I day 'would' as i have been unable to listen to a note since he passed away. [Edited 7/27/17 8:05am] You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

Well, this is just my two cents:
Most overrated: Empty Room - yes, this song is VERY emotional and yes it's good but I sometimes feel like it's too much of a dirge for me to LOVE like some of the others...it's decent but I need to be in the proper mood to listen.
Most underrated: Neon Telephone - this song is so awesome, it hurts! From the strange, springy drums to the funny lyrics, right on through to the indelible melody and crazy coda...I rarely if ever see alot of "love" for this, not sure why because it has "potential single" written all over it.

For me, "The Grand Progression" and "The Dance Electric" are the most overrated. Neither one of those songs really does much for me.

I think your ratio is too high, but I do believe that the majority of the unreleased 1980s tracks that I have heard aren't as GREAT as his studio songs from the 1980s. However it is exciting that some of them are and many are better than the studio tracks of the rest of his catalogue and much of what is out there in music. And this is from someone who is a bit of a defender of his post 80s output.
It is also important to remember that the sheer qquantity of unreleased material makes it hard to compare with the few songs chosen for each album. A better comparison would be to take your top 10 unreleased songs from each album era and see how they stack up to the album.
I haven't heard enough of his unreleased stuff from the 1990s and 2000s to make a fair comparison with his studio releases of those respective decades. It will be interesting to see how many Deliverance releases will surprsise us in the future. I thought those songs compared favorably with his previous release of Planet Earth. I imagine it is possible to have a heart and not like Grand Progression, uhm maybe , but the thing that draws me to it is that it is one on the most beautiful choruses of any of his unreleased material. It also provides a great contrast with the more mellow verse sections. And, I like the metaphor, especially coming from a musician like Prince.

His guitar playing is what makes me come back to it time and time again. Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

Imagine if 17 DAYS, THE DANCE ELECTRIC, SHE'S ALWAYS IN MY HAIR were released right after PURPLE RAIN... Wow would have been another huge huge commercial album.
