If I Could Get Your Attention on BFTP is pirated - it was released officially in 2015. Consider buying the single from Tidal:

Err, this was officially released in 2014!

biggrin

*edit* I see Doozers saying 2015 release. But I'll just say, in my defence, that Prince vault has it listed as the 2014 version but I guess that was the recording date.

See, this is what I'm talking about. Including legally available tracks, however rare, is a pet peeve of mine.

That said, I just read on PrinceVault that there is an early version of F.U.N.K. recorded in 2003-2004 that might be different than the official release. Having purchased the track from iTunes (as well as downloading the free copy in 2007) I deleted the tracks from both BFTP2 & BFTP5 from my iTunes without even listening to them.

Anybody want to save me the trouble of going to my backup drive to check them by confirming that both of them are the released version (or of course if one of them is the unreleased)?

The BFTP2 F.U.N.K. is the 2007 version. Not sure what the difference is between that and the BFTP5 version -- unless they just wanted to justify including Shelby's intro?

Now that I listen to it, the version on 5 seems ever-so-slightly better to my (untrained) ears. Someone else might weigh in with more valuable info.

hmmm Thanks for the info! I may have to check 5, although I suspect you're right, they probably just included it because of the Intro. Need to be sure though as the song's a favorite. That's why I bought it from iTunes after already having the free copy.... had to have best quality possible. wink

I'm not on Tidal. Any place else? I looked on ITunes a while back and it wasn't available. Although I was able to buy another favorite from there, "free Ur'self."

IIRC, you can puchase files from Tidal without being a subscriber. I bought several from them (including the one we're talking about) and I'm not a subscriber.

If I'm not wrong it was played live as part of "Controversy" in 1986 (but also in later tours).

I came here to ask the same thing. Thanks!

Thunderfunk is right, you don't have to be a Tidal subscriber to purchase from their store.

Yes, he redid the song for the news anchor woman he was friends with, he even used her on the initial cover art.

Thank you guys! I was able to purchase it from Tidal without subscribing. I even paid for the more expensive flac one, although I'm not sure if it will make a big difference. I only wish the song itself was longer. It's such a tease, but I love it! love fallinluv

I do know about that Video with Tamron Hall talking about the song. It's a cute story. The one I was able to download didn't have her picture on it any longer though.

As incredible as these releases are, they lose major points for including tracks that were/are available to legally purchase. Yes, I know that this is standard operating procedure for EYE, but it still manages to piss me off...

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Some... a little. But there are a few (very few) pieces that I've only gotten through their being included on such collections, so I can see how for some fans sometimes the difference between songs that were officially released but not really that available (if it's not for sale now, and I missed it when it was--then it's not available for me) and tracks that are completely unreleased isn't really a major difference. It's kind of uncool, but it's not like pirating an album, really.

Just finished listening.

Compared to BFTP 4.0 this is a real downer.

Ingrid album is a bore, most of the material here are previously leaked/officially released stuff.

Sound quality is not that great, too.

What's that doing on this set?

No, it's her poetry reading from winter 1987 accompanied by Prince on keyboard. Most of the tracks were reworked with lots of music added in 1991 for the official album. wink

Don't know why the 1991 version of the previously leaked Crystal City Cry is included in the middle of it, though. confused

Anyway, it's at least as exciting as the 2011 Oui Can Love session with Andy Allo. smile

(Well, I prefer Ingrid, really, because I loved her album.) biggrin

(And with the full version of Crystal City Cry #1, that's another one of all those previously leaked, evil, cruel samples deleted. Yay! razz )

I like Ingrid's album. It is interesting to me to hear how the tracks progressed from the minimal/demo versions on this set. One track includes dialogue between her and Prince, Standing In The Rain. It's quite cheesey.
