Here right now I don't have the CD to check it, but as far as I remember P vocal were mixed right with all instruments.

What I remember well is that it was the first time I can detect so well the echoes and reverbs on the vocals (more or less same effects as on "We Can Fuck").

Probably someone who have the H20 CDS in his collection can confirm.

After listening to BOX O CHOCOLATES today, it's deff one of the best quality sounding boots out of them all... Even Wonderful Ass sounds best on the BOX O CHOCOLATES boot I have vs the PR DELUXE...

MOVIE STAR

A PLACE IN HEAVEN

GIRL O MY DREAMS

DATA BANK

WONDERFUL ASS

all sound better on the BOX O CHOCOLATES then BLAST FROM THE PAST.

Anyone notice that the stereo panning on some songs (some of the sample tracks, Do Yourself a Favor, etc) was fucked with? Like i hear some cross phasing between channels and instruments oddly mixed onto one channel

I was looking forward to hearing this release, but disappointed to hear many tracks don't sound as good as previous releases.

.

We moan about WB being lazy with Purple Rain Deluxe, but it seems the bootleggers aren't any better! lol

.

It sounds like there's a few good, new tracks and the rest is filler so they can charge £40 (or whatever)

.

Or is that unfair?

It was like this on the old (fantastic) 'crucial' boot, in much worse quality. It was seperated as two tracks and i think that's what it is, they aren't connected really.
But I love it, Power Fantastic in this version is in my top 3 Prince songs.

I've never heard 3/4 of the songs on here sound so good. Also, the info on the liner notes seems correct, as opposed to PR Deluxe. So...yeah, this doesn't feel lazy.

I agree - The Dance Electric on this set is superior to PR Deluxe, even if it's shorter. I'm glad to have both, but this will be the version I go back to most often.

Anyone wanna do one of those Keep/Dump verdicts like @smokeverbs did for BFTP 2.0?

The Dance Electric – Alternate mix, fades out 5 mins early. Not sure if I like the way the drums are mixed on this one. Still better than the version on PR Deluxe.

more like 6? it's hard to answer: for audiophiles, what's "really better"? For the self-proclaimed "connoisseurs", what's "never heard"? Who knows?

.

for me, it's like 5 or 6. Bandits never got my money. I almost wish they had, so they can keep banditizing. almost.

.

the past week was the most fun it's been to be a prince fan in a long time. Go bandits.

Well, I think the "Box O' Chocolate"-versions of "Data Bank", "Girl O' My Dreams", "I Can't Stop" and "We Can Funk" sound great!

What I'm missing is a "Moviestar" that goes into "A Place In Heaven" like on the old "Chocolate Box"-boot (in good sound). biggrin

Just read this thread. Lots of comments about other boots having better versions.
I've not compared myself, so just surprised that so many are saying there's better versions of tracks out there.

As someone who purchased his first bootleg in 1987 but is not in the "elite" collector's circle. I've really enjoyed the "Blast from the Past" CD's. 4.0 has to be my favorite of the 5 sets. It was almost overwhelming getting 4.0 and 5.0 at the same time. Made me fall in love with studio outtakes again. I do agree I'm not keen on offcially released material on the sets. (As a side note, and this may sound crazy to some, I always liked studio outtakes better than live stuff even though I have my fair share of live material).

Just to be clear--the poster said three-quarters (75%) of the songs. So, while it doesn't "prove" you wrong, it definitely indicates they disagree with your idea.

I don't know, as I've only listened to a handful of the tracks at all from the sets, and they've been ones I didn't have before. I just don't have the time to listen to these things, unfortunately.

Ah! That makes more sense then. I just misunderstood.

I still wonder why 1/4 of the tracks are on there though if there's better versions available.

.

I'm not knocking the set, just wondering why they would include inferior versions?

is there a Bootleger "code of ethics" where they don't steal from each other's releases!??

Ethics? EYE includes tracks that are STILL legally available to purchase. They're all about the $$.

also, i assume that most people discussing the tracks here paid $0 for them. in my opinion, that makes the quality/value ration about 1/1.
