I'm told Bernie Grundman remastered it

Are we talking the 1983 version before the horns were overdubbed or the later 1986 version?

That's a good one. I love the part where he raps about how Kim Basinger used to walk around Paisley Park in the nude while they were recording. Funny stuff.

Sex Shooter – This one's never sounded great, although it's my favorite version of this song. I first encountered this one on Fuzztone Reality (on blue vinyl), where it sounded like trash. It's gotten better over the years in small increments – but it sounds pretty good here, probably as good as it's going to get outside of an official release – HOWEVER, IT'S MISSING OVER TWO MINUTES AT THE END. THAT'S A DEAL BREAKER.

This is a different version to the existing circulating Vanity 6 version. Not just that it's shorter - the version here is basically the Apollonia 6 version with Vanity's vocals.

.

If I had to guess, I would say that Prince continued working on the track after Vanity left, and this is the version that Apollonia would eventually add her vocals too, Prince may have left the Vanity vocals on as a guide and this is the version included here.

Shit ... You're right! I was thrown off by the fact that it had Vanity's vocals - indeed this is the A6 Mix. I gotta say I still prefer the original - the guitar lick and different synth lines are too funky. It wouldn't have been the pop hit that it became if P had kept the original mix, but I love it.

Keep your headphones on.

Strange Way Of Saying I Love You may be better sound than the old leak, but the old leak is longer, so this newer, but incomplete leak will be filed under "evil samples" and I'll stick with the old leak. confused And this evil sample has been out since 2014 so what's the point of including it here, other than filler? The same goes for Jill Jones: If I Could Get Your Attention, Make Your Mama Happy and Telepathy. mad

On this release, Jill Jones: Mia Bocca (still in cruel mono) has been placed in 1986, but when it first appeared last year, it said it was from 1983. So which is it? I'm inclined to believe 1983, but would love to hear some expert opinions. biggrin

I wouldn't call that early version of "Dance Electric" useless. Yes it is truncated but I love this completely stripped down version which I believe was a new leak or at least new to me.

And that the "Living Doll"-ending contains "Little Rock" is just fantastic!

I just noticed that.

This is probably the "Little Rock Demo" mentioned in Neversin's post from 2 years ago.

According to PrinceVault, "Living Doll" was recorded on June 2, 1985 and "Little Rock" (aka. "Drawers" and "21") was recorded on May 29, 1985.

Don't know about you all, but just wanted to say that BFTP 5 and above all BFTP 4 ist still on heavy rotation here.

The "Girl Of My Dreams / Can't Stop / We Can Funk" suite is worth the money alone. As a fan and collector since 1985, I've known these outtakes for almost 30 years but have never heard them in such pristine quality. It's so great to have these favourites segued in such condition.

Or Others Here With Us with Clare Fisher instrumentation. Yes, we can argue whether the old version without orchestra is more magical than this version but I simply dig the possibility to listen to it at all.

I think what Clare Fisher did to many of classic Prince songs - released and unreleased - is sometimes not valued high enough.

Love & Sex, the Sheila E. outtake with Prince on background. I absolutely love that instrumental part, starting at 2:52. Such a great track and absolutely unavailable before.

Or Crystal Ball, full version with echo in voice + "sisters and brothers" message section. This time without the Clare Fisher parts which is a little setback. I miss those strings so badly at 8:00 minutes.

Nevertheless this track is a good example of Prince sometimes putting so many ideas in just one song, enough for half an album and it's just one song.

I never will lose my awe for tracks like these even if I will get 90 years old one day.

And don't forget about Wally & Coco Boys. Whether you can argue again whether these tracks meet you expectations or not, it's so amazing to have them in the end.

By the way ... my expectations are met. I love both tracks.

There's still so much to discover ... as mentioned, as a long time fan many things on these discs absolutely drive me to tears. So to whomever leaked and compiled these sets, thanks so much.
This really means a lot to me.

If I may adress a wish without sounding to greedy ... Cosmic Day (full version) + Jealous Girl (full version and/or Jamie Shoop version) would be appreciated quite well, too.

smile

Really enjoyed listening to disc 2. There's some amazing stuff on here. Once again, this is just based on the versions of boots I have in my possession.

The Glamorous Life - This sounds so much better in stereo. Goodbye to the old mono version.

She's Always In My Hair - Just incredible. I never thought we'd get to hear it. On first listen, I was surprised at how close it is to the released version. Listening back to back brings out all kinds of minor differences though.

Ice Cream Castles (Instrumental) - I expected to skip this, but it's great! The guitar is beautiful and the whole song is just so laid back. I'd have never associated it with The Time in this form.

Paisley Park (Instrumental) - EYE have been fiddling around with noise reduction again. They've cleaned up the hiss that's particularly noticeable at the start, but the rest sounds pretty much the same to me. I'll probably end up keeping this one and deleting the previous leak.

When Doves Cry (Rehearsal) - This is a fantastic rendition. I really like his vocal performance. Unlike some, I never get tired of listening to the classic songs even after all these years. I wish we had more information on exactly when this rehearsal took place. It turns out it's the same as the one on the Noon Rendevous rehearsal. This one has a better balance between the left and right channels. It's also brighter - EYE's trademark sound apparently.

Next Time Wipe The Lipstick Off Your Collar - This sounds pretty much the same as the preceding leak (they appear to have the same audio faults). The start is a tiny bit different though; this version has a clearer piano run in the intro. I think I'll delete the leak and keep this one.

The Dance Electric (Alternate Mix) - I like this version, maybe more than the recent official release. It seems identical to the recent leak apart from the extra two seconds of silence followed by a click at the end. I'll delete this one.

The Screams Of Passion - Superb song. Sounds identical to the leak to me: delete.

Around The World In A Day - This sounds far better than the old version. It runs about 7 or 8 seconds faster. This is something I can actually listen to for pleasure now, rather than simply out of curiousity.

Our Destiny (Jill Jones) - If this isn't a new source, EYE have done a good job at getting rid of the hiss clearly heard on the one supplied by Jill on Soundcloud. It cuts off before you can hear Roadhouse Garden coming in so that it times perfectly with the version of Roadhouse coming up. I'll delete the one I downloaded from Soundcloud and keep this.

Roadhouse Garden - I guess they have just chopped this off from the second part of the official release and turned up the treble. It feels slightly too bright for me, but it's nice to have this overdubbed version as a single track.

Mutiny - Sounds better than what we had before. The stereo mix seems to have been flipped; I'm hearing the cymbal crashes on the right instead of the left. It also runs marginally slower, though it's only really noticeable if you switch between them.

Dear Michaelangelo - Identical to the leak a few days ago.

Toy Box (Instrumental) - Far superior quality to the previous copy (at least the one I had, but I appear to have missed an update), which sounds like it was recorded in a waterfall. I can finally appreciate the sublime guitar and bass going on here. This one is on repeat.

Another great CD. I can't wait to get onto the third one.

At 01.26 during 'Killin' At The Soda Shop' ... is that orchestra/horn sampled in 'Face Down' during the 'Orchestra!" bit????

.

I was listening to this song today and, yes, the Clare Fischer orchestration (at ~1:14 and ~1:22) is sampled on "Face Down".

.

And the orchestra at ~0:45 was also sampled at the beginning of "Graffiti Bridge" (the song), of course.

Cute? This song is about suicide according to Jill Jones. It is a lovely melody, but I don't think cute fits given the topic.
