I really dig these sets and really appreciate how far these tracks have come in quality.

For me prince always had me with music, the persona and strange cryptic behavior, not my thing, but music damn was he just a modern day mozart.

Thank you to the community for the leaks.

Or at least a clear breakdown track by track of what we know/what we already have from somewhere else about the tracks. Which I know is a bit much to ask, but some people have a bit more information in their minds or at their fingertips than I do, and can do the job.

I'm keeping everything either way, but I'd still like to have a clear idea of what upgrades from earlier available versions, what's been unjudiciously tinkered with, what's just plain faked or fan-extended, what's controversial.

There's just so much here!

So, the 3 tracks that Jill Jones leaked on Soundcloud last month...
Am I right that the copies on here are sourced from those same lossy tracks and not from a better source?

I've finished sorting through the first CD. Here's what I think, but I should point out I can't guarantee I have the latest versions of all the previous leaks (thanks to Freek99999 for bringing it to my attention).

Soft & Wet #1 - I deleted it. They've tried to brighten it up, but the ringing on the vocal makes it unlistenable for me. The somewhat duller version I have makes for a much better listening experience.

Soft & Wet #2 - I don't think this is a new source, but I like the fuller sound. It replaced my previous copy.

Miss You - I forgot to mention this one. The quality has improved, but this is just the same old fan edit to extend the track.

Rough - Sounds the same to me, except for the extra second at the start with the full drum intro. Replaced previous.

Broken - They've removed the hiss. Kept.

Strange Way - Far better quality than the one I had.

Do Yourself - I was disappointed on first listen with the quality. When I compared it though, I realised it's from a new source. It has a drum stick intro and plays more slowly for a running time of 9:20. Kept both versions.

Turn It Up - Great quality. Replaced my previous version.

Moonbeam Levels - I thought this would be an instant delete, but it seems different to the official release. It doesn't have the same reverb on drumbeat intro. I need to do a more careful comparison, but in the meantime, I'm keeping both versions.

Jungle Love - I think this is the same as the one Jesse put up on his Facebook page.

Wet Dream Cousin - Much better quality. Replaced previous.

Wonderful Ass - The best track on this disk. Full length and fantastic quality. Tossed the 2 min edit I had in the bin.

Velvet Kitty Cat - Unbelievably, this has no hiss and sounds better than the official release. I guess they've just cleaned it up, but surely it's a bit of an embarrassment for WB.

My Love Belongs To You - Much better quality. Replaced previous.

Sex Shooter - Much better quality, but it's not the full version. I'm keeping the rougher sounding 6:56 min version as well as this.

Wednesday - Seems to be the same as the one Jill put up on Soundcloud.

Overall, I'm delighted with the first CD. Only the first Soft & Wet and the tracks leaked by Jill and Jesse weren't keepers for me. On I go to the next set of songs. There goes the rest of my weekend, but I'm not complaining.

Clare Fischer made some wonderful contributions to Prince's music (the Family-album and much more) but I always felt that the orchestra destroyed the purity of the "original"-Crystal Ball-version.

FINALLY a good sounding COMPLETE "Crystal Ball"-version without Clare Fischer's orchestration!!!
The FULL Bass-Solo ("listen 2 the bassman play")
AND the short jazz-bass-line afterwards ("expert, expert")...

Thank you so much EYE-people!!!

"Living Doll" is so much fun!
And "My Baby Knows '85"! Just cool!
Wnderful Jill Jones-tracks on BFTP 4!!!

I think one of the next official releases should be a Jill Jones-Album.
She's just amazing imo!!
And Prince did really great stuff with her!
I like her "My Destiny" so much more than Lisa's (sorry Lisa, but you are the greatest keyboard player!) wink
And "Wednesday"! So cute!

It's absolutely amazing that every sound on "Crystal Ball" is Prince (except for the female vocals, obviously).

the detail in the mix is just amazing eek i'm hearing things i've never heard before, there is so
much depth in it. makes me wonder if the rather shitty quality we had of this before was also
a mono? because this one sounds so much brighter and wider, it's a revelation. i'm in love love

Really enjoyed listening to disc 2. There's some amazing stuff on here. Once again, this is just based on the versions of boots I have in my possession.

The Glamorous Life - This sounds so much better in stereo. Goodbye to the old mono version.

She's Always In My Hair - Just incredible. I never thought we'd get to hear it. On first listen, I was surprised at how close it is to the released version. Listening back to back brings out all kinds of minor differences though.

Ice Cream Castles (Instrumental) - I expected to skip this, but it's great! The guitar is beautiful and the whole song is just so laid back. I'd have never associated it with The Time in this form.

Paisley Park (Instrumental) - EYE have been fiddling around with noise reduction again. They've cleaned up the hiss that's particularly noticeable at the start, but the rest sounds pretty much the same to me. I'll probably end up keeping this one and deleting the previous leak.

When Doves Cry (Rehearsal) - This is a fantastic rendition. I really like his vocal performance. Unlike some, I never get tired of listening to the classic songs even after all these years. I wish we had more information on exactly when this rehearsal took place. It turns out it's the same as the one on the Noon Rendevous rehearsal. This one has a better balance between the left and right channels. It's also brighter - EYE's trademark sound apparently.

Next Time Wipe The Lipstick Off Your Collar - This sounds pretty much the same as the preceding leak (they appear to have the same audio faults). The start is a tiny bit different though; this version has a clearer piano run in the intro. I think I'll delete the leak and keep this one.

The Dance Electric (Alternate Mix) - I like this version, maybe more than the recent official release. It seems identical to the recent leak apart from the extra two seconds of silence followed by a click at the end. I'll delete this one.

The Screams Of Passion - Superb song. Sounds identical to the leak to me: delete.

Around The World In A Day - This sounds far better than the old version. It runs about 7 or 8 seconds faster. This is something I can actually listen to for pleasure now, rather than simply out of curiousity.

Our Destiny (Jill Jones) - If this isn't a new source, EYE have done a good job at getting rid of the hiss clearly heard on the one supplied by Jill on Soundcloud. It cuts off before you can hear Roadhouse Garden coming in so that it times perfectly with the version of Roadhouse coming up. I'll delete the one I downloaded from Soundcloud and keep this.

Roadhouse Garden - I guess they have just chopped this off from the second part of the official release and turned up the treble. It feels slightly too bright for me, but it's nice to have this overdubbed version as a single track.

Mutiny - Sounds better than what we had before. The stereo mix seems to have been flipped; I'm hearing the cymbal crashes on the right instead of the left. It also runs marginally slower, though it's only really noticeable if you switch between them.

Dear Michaelangelo - Identical to the leak a few days ago.

Toy Box (Instrumental) - Far superior quality to the previous copy (at least the one I had, but I appear to have missed an update), which sounds like it was recorded in a waterfall. I can finally appreciate the sublime guitar and bass going on here. This one is on repeat.

Another great CD. I can't wait to get onto the third one.

airth, not to criticse, but maybe you have missed Blast From The Past 2.0?

a few times when you describe a big difference with an old version (e.g. Toy Box) there is an (almost) equally great sounding version on Blast 2.0
