It appeears that there is a new leak, the original unreleased album version of "Daddy Pop."

Oh.. good. A song barely a notch above 'Jughead'. Do fans really hold 'Daddy Pop' in high regard? I know I don't. Given what came before, it's a bit shit really. Meh. Ironic Avatar for me.. I know.

I have no shame in proclaiming my love of Diamonds and Pearls! It's my second favourite Prince record. "Daddy Pop" is no masterpeice, but I consider it to be a fun song...I personally enjoy it, and will get up and dance to it. Live performances of Daddy Pop from 91/92 are pretty cool because of the choreography. The lyrics don't even make sense complete to me, but it has some guitar riffs, a good beat, and I just like it. It puts a smile on my face...probably because I am a child of the 90s and I like the House music sound of the early 90s.

You will never hear me sing the praises of "Jughead," which I think is the worst song on D&P. I don't even hate "Jughead." I can listen to it, it doesn't bother me that much, but I just tune it out because it makes no sense to me and Prince doesn't even sing on it.

No, it is he and Rosie, similar to the version on D&P. There are some major differences in the lyrics in the leaked version and the D&P version. Also, Prince raps on the leaked version instead of Tony M.

I really like "Daddy Pop" from Diamonds and Pearls, so this leaked version piqued my interest. The leaked version has a different vibe than the album version. The leaked version is definitely more stripped down...it sounds like mainly drums and bass guitar, with minimal or no synths. The second half of the track sounds like Prince, Rosie, and the NPG are basically just jamming. The leaked version is definitely less polished than the album version. There is no rapping from Tony M; Prince raps instead. Prince is not very good at rapping, but it was the early 90s, and having a verse of rap was "in style" at that time. There are some significant differences in the lyrics of the album version and the leaked version. Of the 2 versions, I like the album version better, but I like the leaked version, and it's interesting to compare and contrast the two.

I havent heard it, as I don't know where to look half the time for these leaks, but if the synths are removed it takes away a lot of character.

It can't make daddy pop if theirs no synth.

Haven't heard it yet, but it's gotta be the version from D&P beginings....I mean how many original versions are there right?

Thank you for the link, I didn't even see that thread about D&P Beginnings. All I know is that the leaked version of Daddy Pop surfaced today. Considering that I've never listened to D&P Beginnings, I don't know if this leaked version of Daddy Pop is from that set. I only have but so much income that I can spend on simple pleasures, and I prioritize the legit Prince releases over the bootlegs.

Actually I like Daddy Pop quite a bit, and the Arsenio Hall performance was as Spock says "pure energy"

I also just heard the song, thanks to people posting the name of it's source. I liked the Prince rap. It's definetly better with that church like synth.

If it wasn't for that synth there wouldn't be a long line to see daddy pop.

Also, I like the official album version rather than the newly released original. The album version swings and has more musical and vocal depth/layering whereas the original is somewhat monotone. However, sometimes, it is cool to see a song go from draft to final version.
