Bootleggers Listen Up You gave us the most incredible live video of Prince last year with the release of his three 2013 Montreux shows. You gave us "Can I Play With U' which is the best sounding stuff I've ever heard. You are doing a beter job by leaps and bounds than the estate. I hope you guys can get your hands on some rare stuff...hopefully you can contact other engineers like Ian Boxhill that have great Prince music and want the world to hear it. We can not count on the estate as they oversaw a remaster of his biggest selling album that is so poor that it is hard to listen. The vault tracks are in bad shape and I'm not holding out hope for remasters of Around the World In A Day or Sign O The TImes any longer. I am looking to you all to give us the goods.
I truly don't believe Prince would mind Deliverance as the subject matter was surely more in line with his thinking than are the tracks released on the Vault.

Quite frankly its not that simple! You want the music then shut down lables like Eye records & Sabotoge! The reason collectors dont put there stuff out is there sick of lables running with it and selling it! When they didnt obtain it on there own in the first place!

I reckon Ian Boxhill should have remastered Purple Rain.....his release of Deliverance from a quality perspective was impressive.

Nah. He would've used a gospel choir doing the "oohoohoos" on Purple Rain.

I'd like to see more unreleased stuff all over the place 4 free....thanks 2 those who shared this stuff by the past and in the future maybe but I can't see the point why collectors who paid a lot of dollars to get this rare stuff would share it 4 free and the pleasure of all...4 a collector it is a normal reflex 2 keep this rare stuff 4 his private pleasure ?

Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Ha. I'm glad some version of those songs came out--and I actually like the ones he released. But I really would like to hear just what Prince actually oversaw.

Or another idea--just send everything to me. Then I'll decide what to do.

I'm sorry, I don't buy this...I've been involved in other trading circles, mostly those without bootleg collections/companies. Most of these people still hoard the tracks, they don't share freely, only trade, even if they could leak them without fear of repercussion. Plus, in this day and age where song leaks can easily be shared in public places (hell, even the Eye/Sabotage bootlegs can be somewhat easily found with a simple Google search), it's not that difficult to post something somewhere and say, "hey, download this here! Don't encourage the bootleggers!" [Edited 6/26/17 16:23pm] "Like the drummer said, you got to die."

If the collectors are worried about bootleggers making money then how about the collectors press up their own cd's and charge people only the cost it took to press the cd's and shipping and handeling. I'm tired of hearing excuses why we can't all enjoy these gem's. The excuse used to be they don't share because they don't want to get the person who leaked the song's in trouble now that Prince is gone the excuse is bootleggers making money. I don't buy bootleggs but I could care less if someone made some money as long as we can hear and share our thoughts with EVERYBODY about these songs. AKA PDEXTER

The bootleggers making money thing has been one of the cited reasons in the past, too. And while the bootleggers might make some money, I assume almost everyone who gets even the commercial bootleg releases is getting them through sharing at this point (much thanks go to those people who make the purchases that so many of us benefit from). I've never had anything rare, so I don't know what the situation really is, but I don't understand it. Well, I kind of do, now that I think about it. If sharing a track too publicly means that you might find your own access cut off to further rarities, then that alone might make you be very stingy with what you let out. I've never heard anyone actually say that exactly, but I'm sure it has an effect on people who might, left completely on their own, might be willing to share everything.

Thankfully, I don't know much about 'rare' stuff out there. I'd settle for better/best quality versions of already circulating stuff like ATWIAD (bass), Take Me With U extended, Euphoria Highway, etc... "I like to watch."

Prince probably never lost any money due to the bootleggers before, but he sure isn't losing any now. The Estate "might" be, but he didn't leave a will and the family members will do just fine, either way. . So yes I agree that the bootleggers need to continue doing what they are doing. There was samples of some amazing live shows and rehearsals that surfaced a few months ago and I hope the full shows are on the way.

. This is the truth. In this day and age, I'm surprised bootleg 'comapnies' even exist let alone press physical CDs. It's probably because you guys keep buying them! . If people with the goods wanted to leak this stuff they would. But they spent a long time being in an exclusive club of traders, why would they destroy what they've created? .

Boots have to be good sound quality. No one wants to listen to bootlegs like Ice Cream Castles

The bootleggers are the only reason any of the rest of us get to hear anything, so I'm all for them. Who cares if they sell it? It only takes one person to buy it and share with the collective, so if that would happen, they wouldn't make that much money. [Edited 6/27/17 3:42am] "I like to watch."

Yep, I'm with you there, I don't care where they get it from or how, much they sell it for. I won't pay the bootleggers but so long as it's released I'll get a download from somewhere and be thankful for it. [Edited 6/27/17 3:57am] RIP

Some of these boot companies create a quality physical product and I understand why some want that. Drives me nuts when I read a comment from people in 'the circles' saying "f**k Eye Records". I wanna say "No - f**k YOU. Your 'Prince-privilege' is showing". "I like to watch."

There's layers of nuances here that I think people aren't getting. Now there's people who have a lot more than I do, but let me break it down. Where do you think the unreleased songs come from in the first place? Let's say, for example, that I hypothetically got a few songs from a musician who played on those songs, as a gift. Clearly it would be a fucked up thing to do for me to turn around, press it up and sell that song. That would be a massive slap in the face to that person, regardless if it was done at cost or not. Hell - in at least one example I know of, a fan was given a 1986 track personally by Prince in the last few years.
So by asking someone who has something, to share it publically, you are potentially asking that person to shit all over a personal relationship, and on top of that, indirectly generate tens of thousands of dollars to a bootlegger, quite literally making a huge profit from someone else's work.

I get it. The bottom-feeders should just shut up about it. I can't figure out why you would want to come down and walk among the unclean. I realize I'm being a total dick here, but I am frustrated as hell with all this cloak and dagger stuff. I mean, is it REALLY necessary to publicly post that you have "Wally" and state you have rarer stuff than "Wally"? All that does is stir the shit. [Edited 6/27/17 6:19am] "I like to watch."

All I ask is that if and/or when any of this happens, somebody fucking Orgnote me! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

If I receive a song as a gift from a musician friend, very good for me. And it is logic that for respect you don't share this song with other fans, being this a "familiar" thing.
