Prince and Broadway So I know this seems like a stretch, but I can't help but think that Broadway was a big influence on Prince. The in the round/eclectic set of Lovesexy reminds me of Cats, and the SOTT tour stage looks like it could be from a revival of West Side Story. I've also seen an interview with Madonna from back in the day, talking about how her and Prince were supposed to write a musical together. That combined with ALL the theatrics like dancing, lighting, props, sets, I really think P looked to Broadway and West End for influences. Anybody know if he went to any Broadway shows or was a theater fan? I know he took dance classes. And what are some of your favorite musicals? | |

Don't know the answer to your question, but I would love to see his music either be prominently focused in a broadway musical (ala, Cyndi Lauper Kinky Boots or Elton John Aida) or be a part of a biography musical, because he most certainly has the music for it, in both substance and variety.

Of course Prince was hip to all kinds of theater. There's a photo of him at a play in NYC. Loved Hamilton (tweet). He was already great at all the aspects of the theater - writing, staging, sound, voice, music. He could've had a few careers. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all" | |

I don't know much about Def Leppard, his THEATRICS looked more theater influenced, than by any standard pop show. I know dancing is big in theater, so maybe he got exposed to theater then, IDK, just something I'd thought I'd put in. Lol. | |

He worked on a Broadway show with David Henry Hwang back in 94. The song "Solo" came out of that project. | |
