It's a little gem and a great sketch. A little purple artifact, but the Sheena Easton is a fuller deeper finished track. I absolutely adore her version. Her's is also a "Prince version," because Prince himself produced it and plays all the instruments.

101 is a song almost too personal to even listen to but yet you cannot turn away! It burns with such intensity, hearing Prince sing this song is to hear him slowly go mad as he's literally consumed by obsession....when I had heard Sheena's take I couldn't imagine him singing it, now I have to say I'm on the fence which I love more, really....

I haven't read through all the responses on this, but I could hear Radiohead performing this song perfectly, as Prince did it. For some reason, I thought of Radiohead's "Lotus Flower".

I think Pharell purposely tried to ape Prince on that one. But Still a thrill has a Prince producer, a Prince sound, what sounds like samples from other Prince songs of that era and Wendy herself (supposedly) playing guitar. And then add to the fact that Andre Cymone never wrote ANYTHING anywhere near that brilliant or so blatantly Princely.

You made me check it out... yes there are a lot of timely (as in patterns he was using right at that time) elements in there that sound just like Prince if it was then finished and mixed by another producer. Outside of the tone and presence of the funk guitar chords, I forwarded to the bridge/breakdown and heard that synth bassline pattern that sounds like one of the Madhouse tracks and also one remix of 101.
