Ever see this at a Prince Show?? He would play quick riffs to songs like " Escapade"...." What have you done for me lately"....then Prince turns to the crowd saying " Now who do you think really wrote that song?".....I remember a sexy thing I brought to a show and he did that after the show nothing but complaints from her with him doing that...." he's nothing but a little bitch- if it bothers him so much then either take the credit from the start or just shut the hell up" ....She was a Janet fan & not that impressed with the Prince Show lol....she refused going to another show like 6-8 months later saying seeing him once was enough lol...just wondering if anyone else remembers that/ seen it.

Didn't he do that during the Nude Tour - I always took it as a shout out to Jam and Lewis. He wasn't saying he wrote it

During the Nude Tour he played What Have You Done For Me Lately, and asked the audience 'Who wrote that?". I'm not sure if anyone knows what he was implying! Maybe that he wrote it, or maybe something else!!?

I always figured it was his way of paying his respect to Jam & Lewis. No need for a Janet Jackson fan to feel offended. The following anecdote, however... During the concerts in Den Bosch in 1995, he introduced the band and asked Michael B to stand up. Prince (The Artist) then said: "Who's going to come in this building after us? Janet Jackson? She better bring one of them big motherfuckers!"

He was just being playful. There are people who don't know that Jam & Lewis got their start from P. Early on, he was pissed at them, because they were essentially taking the Minneapolis Sound and selling it to others, and P wanted to keep it to his camp. For proof, check out one of J&L's earliest outside productions, "Wild Girls" for Klymaxxx. It is completely lifted from "Controversy", even to the point of having a lyric "if you're straight or gay....". |

the way he did it at the show I was at / speaking of ( much later than Nude tour)....it was like he was referring that he wrote it....must have bothered him to keep bringing it up lol.

Yep, and for the OP or whoever, he used to incorporate WHYDFML with "Partyman", if memory serves. I remember a lot of questioning in the late 90s about that line (once bootlegs started to circulate more on Napster, etc., and people had a way to talk about these things). One of the members of Prince's Nude Tour NPG told me "of course he didn't write Janet's song". Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Um...He was, as a few others have already said before me, being silly and tipping his hat to JJ & TL...
Just curious...are ya still with that "sexy thing"?
