So we all hear about tracks like Wally and the like but has anyone heard of any video footage being scooped up & sat on? And I don't mean the 2nd coming
.

On some message board a yr ago someone said there was footage of The Conga Room show which I would kill to see having been there . Anyone heard of other shows, rehearsals floating about ?

As much as I agree with you, your comments are falling on deaf ears. It'll be business as usual until Eye or Sab get some goodies and release a boot. Then it will be all 'f**k Eye' and 'f**k Sab'.

[Edited 6/28/17 14:23pm]

Absofuckinglutely agree. If they share whatever uncirculating goodies they have, they can no longer feel like Big Important Fans by lording it over the rest of us slobs. I find it kinda gross that nobody can even admit, "yeah, it makes me feel good to tell you that I have xxxxx and I could care less if it would bring joy to fans around the world if I released it; my self-importance wins over love of music any day."

THIS IS SO TRUE!!!!!! For so many years we've heard the same BS "oh, I HAVE it, and you can hear a few seconds of it, but I cannot release it for other fans to enjoy because.....uh.....I made a solemn vow to only offer small teases of the track unless somebody wants to trade something equally obscure, so we can stay in our elite inner circle"

It doesn't matter. It'll all come out in the wash. In time. Then the self-important fans hoarding whatever illicit recordings they have will have to content themselves by being superiour because they have enough money to have an huge vinyl and collectible collection.

Anyway you cut it, it is about $$$$$ more than honest LOVE of the artist and his work. But this is true well beyond the Prince world too. It is a great sentiment to think we live in Uptown and have seen the Dawn and will share the love and the music, but one one of these "fans" shares the music, they no longer can maintain their fake "inner circle" status.

I understand that it sucks when you share for love and someone else turns that into a profit. But this is inevitable as long as some people are willing to spend money on a pressed disc of bootleg material that they could get digital copies of for free.

What I don't understand is why those that have the material don't just release intentionally inferior material, let the bootleggers print it up, then release the pristine copies for free right as the pressed discs are being released. Do this a few times and the labels will get a reputation for selling copies that are inferior to the free copies and even fewer people would be willing to buy their product.

Just an idea.

yeahthat

I've been having the same idea.... lol

What are some of ya'll smoking? A small portion of the boot "Can I play With U" is rehashed tracks in HORRIBLE QUALITY.

Also bootlegers had nothing to do with the quality of the Montraux shows... those are digital video files. They would be the same no matter who releases them. The bootlegers did make menus. Maybe that's something to be judged.

If the 2nd disc of this Purple Rain set had been a bootleg release, some of ya'll would be worshipping it as the 2nd coming and praising the bootlegers for the awesome quality.

Aren't you a 4DF-Fan?

4DF is the coolest Bootleg-Label in my opinion.

They did some of the greatest boot-releases so far.

And they do it for free...

Wouldn't it be cool, if the next big great sounding leaks were firstly exclusive 4DF releases?

I'm a huge bootleg fan, been collecting since 1988, even had a hand behind the scenes once in the artwork/booklet of a big release back in 2001...

but I think the 2nd disc of this new Purple Rain set is more important and of higher quality than much of what bootleggers release.

I'm all for official releases of unheard material and bootleggers doing their thing.

But I'm all for paying for official releases. The free thing works for the bootlegging thieves (like me in the past) to give them integrity for sure.

I imagine Prince seeming to enjoy the feeling of exclusivity, scarcity, special knowledge, and earning a right to an elite ring. It would not surprise me at all to learn Prince encouraged secretive sharing of his music anonymously to those he selected. That is fine. The thought that scares me is what will happen in 30 years. The younger generation wasn't exposed to his brilliance and many of those who did will be (or are) getting older, sicker, and eventually dying off. While the masses don't have an automatic right to hear everything Prince considered important, it would be a tragedy if any of his brilliance is lost to history. Maybe in 10 years we'll see more and more rare items emerge from obscurity.

Jesus, anybody would think its the great bootleg drought of 2004.

In the last few years we've had numerous amazing boots: countless outtakes and soundboards, the flesh sessions, snippets of holy grail tracks, PR deluxe disc 2 (even with its rehash and fan edits).

Yet still people are bitching and whining for more. Do people think this stuff falls from the sky? We have it because somewhere down the line, somebody with "exclusive" access to something decided to share it with somebody else.

I can understand why no collectors would want to take the time to track something down, make it presentable and share it for free, when for years there have been enough snakes prepared to stab in the back for a bucket of cash, and enough gullible fans to help them do it. For every "can i play with u" theres probably a "diamonds and pearls: beginnings" that we wont see for that reason

Bitch this ain't the movies

I'd rather people who have stuff just let the rest of us know what's out there, no need to brag about (which, in fairness, I don't think i've ever seen) but i'd rather know what i'm missing so I know what to look out for. I like when someone like neversin comes in and says "these are all taken from a specific tape that's been around since 1993" (or whatever), gives it all a bit of context rather than having to go through Eye records rehashed stuff with a few new plugins and trying to figure out what's new.

Others may prefer to stay ignorant and blissful though.

Not much more to say here is there? We've told the bootleggers to listen up, so now all we need to do is wait. We've talked sense into them so I fully expect everything to be leaked by the end of August. At least give them a chance, geez. wink

LOOKING 4 THE LADDER - A PERSONAL STATEMENT FROM (<ô>) RECORDS

LOOKING 4 THE LADDER
A PERSONAL STATEMENT
FROM (<ô>) RECORDS
07-07-2017

‘’I AM MUSIC.’’
‘’SONGS R LIKE MY CHILDREN.’’

Like all the Purple Fans around the world, (<ô>) is also still struggling and trying to accept the truth.
What a joy and fun parade it was to follow Prince around the world for more than 30 years.
We always Xpected the unXpected - but we never expected this unhappy ending. It all came to a very sad and untimely end.
All good things they say, never last. The Work Pt. 1 is finished.

SOMETHING BIG IS COMING...

Next to the big loss of the Man, Musician, Artist Prince, it is equally frustrating to see in what state his estate, his legacy has been left. There is no will.
There is no direction. Everything is left to deteriorate while some vultures (lawyers, record labels, industry insiders, former associates and even his family)
just try to cash in without compassion, admiration or understanding for his Music and Art.

...BUT DON'T EXPECT IT FROM THE "ESTATE".

Where are we now? The Fans HAVE been and WILL be the ones to make sure his legacy is upheld properly - and organize his music
in Fan releases to give a true historic representation of his live and studio work. We all are the estate. The iState?

We have zero faith in anyone other than us, the Fans, to represent him properly. Time is ticking and nothing is happening.
Instead of taking care that the musical heritage is safely preserved and can be heard by fans soon, we see legal battles, family feuds, total chaos.

So there is only ONE solution - It's up to us to do this right: The Work Pt. 2

This is why (<ô>) will continue to release music by the Fans, 4 the Fans.

If you like and collect pressed fan releases: Cool. Thanks for the support. This is exactly how crowd-funding started and still works.
Unearthing treasures can be costly (<ô>) and challenging, but this is where invests time, effort, and money.

If pressed fan releases are not your cup of tea: OK. It's simple to google up a download link.
But please accept that other collectors want and appreciate pressed fan releases.
And by doing so, they support the Purple Cause.

Prince's mystique is built on Fan releases.

Fan releases kept his followers following him, even when he was striving for alternative ways and while he went under the radar.

And the future belongs to Fan releases:
Regardless of whether it's a digital release, a CD-R/DVD-R release, or a pressed Fan release on CD/DVD:
The legacy will be preserved by *Fan* releases.
We will continue to contribute our part and invite others to do the same: Join the iState.

The legacy will be crowd-sourced.
Enjoy the incredible musical output of historical relevance.
Xpect the unXpected!

"EVERYBODY HAVING A GOOD TIME?
WE'LL LET U IN ON A LITTLE SECRET. WE R RECORDING LIVE HERE 2NIGHT. IN OTHER WORDS: THIS IS A RECORD!
THE MORE NOISE U MAKE, THE MORE NOISE WE MAKE...
UNDERSTAND? COMPRENDO? ÇA VA? ÇA VA? GOOD GOD!"
(Paris Le Zénith 25 August 1986)
"I like to watch."

Nice attempt at spin from eye records, but they may as well just tell the truth, they are in it for the money.

Preserving Princes legacy? dont make me laugh. If it was about that they wouldnt take one disc of new material and pad it out with poor quality rehash to make four and maximise profits from the stupid

Just to say, but if you're talkin' of the 4CD "Can I Play With U" it is a SAB release, not by Eye.

And more or less it is 3 disc of new material and 1 disc of poor quality rehash.

That said, I agree that the rehash is a bad move, really out of place, somewhat detracting from the otherwise sensational entire Flesh sessions.

To me, it is clear that to listen to the music will not cost anything to anyone, all will be downloadable for nothing.

Who will choose to pay will do it just to have the music on factory pressed CDs with professional artwork, for personal collection.
