Gold? PR DELUXE goes to the total count of PURPLE RAIN sales, which is currently at 21 million world wide. It can't be recertified GOLD...

Also in the second week it is already out of the TOP 20...

Deluxe is different than the original. The sale charts reflect each unit sold as counting as three sold (because of 3 discs.). Therefore it could sale gold level by The end of the year. It's a new release.

Whether official title of gold or not-It still means 100,000 will be sold by the end of the year.

3 good news :

.

1. Thank God, this is only the deluxe edition sales. The sales of the original version will be added this week on Billboard. And, as always, soundscan numbers are always higher than HDD's listing.

.

2. 6 music videos of Purple Rain have been officially added on Youtube. Let's hope it would give the reediton more exposition worldwide. Sadly, still no official video for the unreleased material, that's really a bad job.

.

3. The tv adds campaign is still running in France, though very confidential. To what degree of efficiency, we will see this week on the second week chart in France.

But it would have been more efficient if this had been coupled with high coverage in the music press. We see U2 or The Beatles on the cover, but even in the inside, not a word on the re-release.

Um no... That's not how it works...

All the new deluxe sales which is charted on it's own, end up going to the grand total of the original sales, as indicated by mediatraffic world charts, the Deluxe sales combine with the original PR sales which the total is at 21 million now.

Yes over 100,000 sales of PR DELUXE is accounted for but in the end it goes to the grand total of the PURPLE RAIN SALES, and the original PURPLE RAIN is also counted towards PR DELUXE...

can we assume that his other albums (if given the deluxe treatment) would sell in the same numbers, oor slightly less (hardcore fans only buying it?)

if so then they know that they have an audience of about 100k for deluxe prince releases - which I presume would be a good thing or at least would give them a marketing plan for future releases.

I guess those who are bellyaching over what they perceive as low sales should actually be ecstatic.

Because if this is the best shot at retail the estate had, then the estate should be thinking right about now, "Hmmm - it can only go down from here. And really down, as in no one is going to buy any other re-released Prince album at even a fraction of these sales numbers. So we'd better make as much unreleased stuff available to the Prince.org fans as possible, because that's where the rest of our sales are going to come from!"

They need to move quickly or the next one will do worst. UMG also needs to actually be an admin and put a stop to the bootlegging. They have thus far done nothing but put out some t-shirts. eek

Meh... They should've promoted it sooner... Already out of the TOP 20 in the second week sales for U.S. and World Charts...

Max PR DELUXE will sell total with world wide numbers is no more than 130K.

Good to know. I need to pick some more up for Christmas presents to friends and family. Don't care if they don't want it. I'll do what my mom did to me when I was 12 - give me a Michael Jackson album for Christmas instead of the Prince one I wanted, cuz she hated Prince... Never forgave her. Looking forward to paying her back in kind... wink

Now you understand why I was so worried, and why I was bitching so much toward WB for not making promotion, for one of the best selling album in the US.

The results are as mediocre as their promotion. Even the fans here, and elsewhere doesn't want to buy it.

.

When an artist has a new release, it is a common thing to see his other albums appear in the charts. There is not even TVBO or 4EVER anywhere in the charts in the world ; even in subcharts.

.

If the boxset was promoted, his whole albums catalogue would have benefited from a boost in sales.

We can also regret that a calendar of future reeditions is not planned, it would be reassuring for the casual consumers.

.

Even Chuck Berry new album sells better eek

God only Prince could be the biggest selling artist in US n then drop to this.

I remember when Prince died the Vatican (Yes the Vatican) culture department wrote an article praising his talent. It went on to say that after the initial future Prince would be surpressed by the industry. I've absolutely been converted to this conspiracy.

The inconvenience of Prince to WB etc has pushed the Prince market to something almost esoteric!.

USA 3rd week previsions: http://hitsdailydouble.co...lbum_chart

.

Purple Rain is not even in the top 50 physical sales album anymore (but Peppers still is, of course). That means it maybe won't be in the official HOT 100 neither. eek

.

Very Huge flop, even much more than what I predicted. Usually Americans love Purple Rain, but even them didn't buy it. And the rest of the world doesn't care anymore. WB released it way too late, as I said numerous times.

.

There won't be other reissues, sadly, now that's for sure. And we all know why : shame on people here, so-called fans, who didn't buy it.

You have no clue about how industry works. Big artists like Katy Perry are selling 200k and the label has to pay a lot for promotion, radio payola, ads, album recording, famous producers, etc.

Purple Rain sold 100k in one week and it's basically old material with little to no promo at all. The label is making a lot of money without spending money on it. It's a win for them.

Yep. They will make a profit. There was no point doing heavy promotion when half you assholes likely just downloaded it for free. It's unethical, entitled brats like this that ruined the business. Anyway I'm confident there will be more reissues when the state quagmyre is sorted out. That said I have to believe sales are softer than anticipated

Everything is dependent on money. If the biggest Prince fans around don't support the release for various reasons (i.e. Packaging sucks, hurts my ears, too compressed etc) then the estate is not going to pay for someone to dig through the vault and publish the music. The legal issues alone would be enormous.

I don't think there will be any more music from the vault. I just hope I'm wrong.

At the end of the day PR DELUXE should've been promoted much more, the fact it's the most iconic Prince album and one of the most important albums in music history, and this was the first real major release since his death... The promotion was very lack luster, hence why the estate created the YouTube channel to promote the PR DELUXE...

That's bullshit on a number of levels. First of all, no one is obliged to support a release that ain't to her or his liking. Secondly, the estate will release vault-material, because it's being money-hungry. The one who could have done promo for an anniversary release of PR was Prince, back in 2014. He could have done interviews, he could have gone on tour with the Revolution playing that music. But he didn't. He even held back the fucked up "remaster". Don't know what you people are complaining about.

Co-sign more stuff is coming WB can put out stuff without spending to nickels and make a profit which means they will gladly put out more. Major artist today can barely give their music away with big marketing campaigns usually ending with record lables barely breaking even unless they have a 360 deal that many stupid artist are agreeing.

I know very well how music industry works, and I certainly know what a flop is.

Katy Perry is making more money for the music industry than Prince, she tours, she has big hits that still sells millions worldwide.

.

Don't act as if PR Deluxe cost no money, with the legal and rights issues, you know it's not true. The simple fact they delayed the release for so long was because they had hard time to release it, and it's not free.

More things are coming really?

.

When exactly ? In 2027, when an agreement will be found between WB and the estate, when the vault will be open, when they list what is exactly in for what era, and when they will restore the damaged tracks ?

.

Seriously, 2017 marks the 35th and 30th anniversary respectively of his two most plebiscited albums beside PR : 1999 and SOTT. Why would they wait to release it ? It could even create a mass effect in stores that would benefit to other reissues.

.

Last year, PR sold 500k in the US, 1999 150 k, and SOTT 50k, despite a huge exposition in stores.

So we already know that the hypothetical reissue of 1999 will sell 3 times less than PR, and SOTT 10 times less, if they are released in the same condition (ie no promo) than PR deluxe.

.

Moreover, Londel McMillan wants to put WB out of the game, but they have to wait until 2021.

That's why the estate prevented WB to release the 1st avenue dvd, to release it on Spotify or something. Clearly, this low purple Rain numbers will prove only to the estate that WB shouldn't be in charge of the new releases.

.

Meanwhile, nothing will be released. Hell, they can't even make post 1993 albums available on Itunes or Amazon, digitally or physically.

Anybody predicting there will not be released anything anymore is just completely naive.

Of course we will see reissues and new stuff. Maybe it will take a bit more time, but it will happen.

This strange situation with wbr, universal, tidal and the estate has to be solved.

For a reissue PR Deluxe sold well, maybe more promo would have been nice, but PR is selling and selling since it has been released in 1984.

People here think the casual PR owner (20 million in the world ) wants to buy a deluxe version?

No, this is only for the hardcore fan or die hard Purple Rain Fan and many of them did buy the new set...
