Prince's opinion on drugs circa 1983 Don't remember seeing this quote before...found it on FB. Paisley Park is in your heart

This was Prince' official stance for a long time.
He was against drugs. Even as recently as "we don't need no clouds" (weed).
But, as we have learned, the truth was more complicated.
I, for one, am still wrapping my head around it. |

i dont think his opinion on drugs ever changed. i think its a bit different though if he legitemately started taking the meds for pain, most likely associated to his hips, and then got hooked, compared to someone who just decides... "hmm, herion sounds like fun". im not saying they both arent equally damaging, but its a very different journey to one than the other. |

If I was in severe pain I would take painkillers myself.. ok..
Painkillers are not the same as drugs, imho.....
Imho, Prince died by an accident of painkillers..
I have never done any drugs in my life, there are so many problems associated with drugs, you can get a psychosis and lose your mind, and also, lose your wife and your job...
Painklillers are ok and acceptable,
Drugs are not acceptable, can very often cause you a lot of trouble in life...
^ This is imho..... stay away from that... is my advise.. peace.... Prince 4Ever. |

And...?
He's talking about recreational drug use - something that, except for the "dark night of the soul" in 1987, we have no evidence he ever indulged in.

WOW! ......
1. The pills he OD'd on were NOT prescription meds....they WERE "recreational" black market pills.
2. The evidence that he DID participate in the recreational drug use was the short form of his autopsy report.
3. We do not have evidence that this was long term recreational use, but it's what killed him.

Since the alleged ecstasy trip was brought up, let me ask some questions. FWIW, I am a non-recreational-drug user of any kind, ever, so I have absolutely no experience or knowledge whatsoever as to what ecstasy does to you or how long it lasts.
Now, we are told to believe that Prince had a bad ecstasy trip and this directly led to the "Black Album". Correct?
Are we to believe that Prince took ecstasy, got in a bad place, and while the trip was still active, wrote, recorded, and mastered 8 songs?
How the heck long does an ecstasy trip last?!?

Huh? the ecstasy story is that the trip made him decide to scrap the release of the Black Album, which was already complete (and pressed and ready to ship to stores), and that he decided to release Lovesexy in its place, later on. He didn't do the actual Lovesexy work while on that ecstasy trip, per the story.

Another thing...and I don't want to come off as a "conspiracy theorist", but-there are many people who have had, as Prince stated "a basic paranoia" or fear of something. This may have been the 1st time he "stated it out loud", but it wasn't the last. He has stated on occaision that he had a fear of "someone taking him out". He said this was his reason for not taking drugs in this interview because he wanted to be clear headed at all times and apparently in his mind if he was clear headed at all times, the less likely someone would "take all his money" or "take him out". The other time he stated a "basic paranoia" of this was sometime in 1996(?) It has been documented by an associate. My first thought was an example like Natalie Woods. She had a crippling fear of drowning, yet that's how she died. And even that death is still being questioned as to whether or not she was murdered. I'm just throwing this out there because I picked up on it-not stating Prince was murdered. |

How does one define recreational? Just because something is obtained on the black market doesn't mean it's recreational. Paisley Park is in your heart

Maybe some of those fears had something to do with the fact that he was 5 feet 2 inches
tall, under 120 lbs most of his life, dressed (or more accurately cross-dressed) in an unusual way beginning at a time when this was not exactly cool or accepted in the black community. Look at the pictures from his earliest concerts; the vast majority of the audience was black, Maybe he was being threatened (spoken or unspoken) by macho black dudes who thought he was too, too...maybe he had already been sexually assaulted. |

It's "recreational" if it's not prescribed, whether being used to treat a real ailment or not-if it's not presccribed and is bought off the street it is recreational usage. |

Never thought of that-and for an example, the band was attacked when they opened for the Rolling Stones due to supposed Hell's Angels types pelting them with food, garbage and a near direct hit with a whiskey/beer bottle. |

WOW your damn self! The fact that some people use Vicodin (which is what Prince thought he had) as a recreational drug does NOT mean that's how Prince was using it.

As Prince's accuser, the burden of proof is on YOU, sweetie. So go ahead - prove that Prince was using these drugs recreationally (i.e. to get high) and not for pain relief. We'll wait. And please - try to spare us any post hoc ergo propter hoc bullshit.

The "proof" is his short form autopsy report, do you have a compreshension problem, Genesia?
Fact: The pills were illicict, non prescribed, black market pills. i.e. RECREATIONAL
Fact: Regardless of whether or not these illicit pills were "used for pain relief" is a moot point. They were NOT PRESCRIBED. Once again, if you need this spelled out for you....this means the pills were RECREATIONAL
Fact: your quote "Prince took the pills thinking they were Vicodin" is pure supposition and projection on YOUR part. You do not KNOW if he knew there was Fentanyl in them or not. Pont blank, end of story.
Good luck with that ignorance of yours.

A question I have then, is: How long does the ecstasy stuff last? Did Prince take it, decide the Black Album was evil, call Warner Brothers and have it cancelled - all while still on the trip?
If the trip ended before he recorded "Lovesexy", wouldn't he have realized his Black Album decision was made under the influence of something and was therefore not based in reality, and have tried to reverse his decision? After all, the Black Album was finished and pressed, and ready to ship. He liked it BEFORE the alleged ecstasy trip, so if the ecstasy wore off, wouldn't he like it again? Or are we to believe that the ecstasy completely altered his thinking on the Black Album forever/at least for many years?
Or do you think Prince's ego caused him to think, "Well...I made a bad decision while on a drug but rather than try to correct that/admit I took a drug, I'll just play it out to the end and record a whole new album, just so I don't have to say I made a mistake/took a drug earlier"?
Again - I've never done any drugs. I've been drunk a lot, and made some bad decisions while drunk, but when I sobered up I always and immediately knew those decisions were bad. So that's the only barometer I have re: alleged ecstasy trips, and it's probably useless.

I'm pretty sure that this "bad trip" on X fucked with his head hard afterwards. I also think this was his "life altering" experience that he has alluded to, but never came out and verified it. It has been stated in a few interviews when asked about religion and such. His outlook on the way he treated people changed drastically after the trip. He chose to start treating people with more kindness. If I had to guess, it was a bad trip that was very lucid and what he experienced stuck with him. Kind of like a horrible nightmare that you never forget. In his case, he probably "saw" and "felt" that the Black Album was evil and after the trip, there was no convincing him otherwise. |

Good luck with that ignorance of yours.
Do you honestly think that no one has ever purchased drugs on the black market - not because they are just looking for a cheap high - but because they are physically dependent on them and can no longer get a prescription?
Do you honestly think that Prince would have taken those pills if he thought there was something in them (fentanyl) that would kill him? And that he would risk that just to get high?
Do you honestly think that people who have prescriptions for medications never use said medications recreationally? I have a drawer full of legitimately obtained vidocin, codeine and Xanax (leftover from various medical procedures and illnesses), plus progesterone, trazodone and zolpidem, that says you're wrong. (I do not take these recreationally, but absolutely could if the urge struck me.)
Everything in all of your posts is pure supposition. You suppose that Prince was a recreational drug user (rather than someone who was physically dependent or seeking pain relief). You suppose that he knew what was in those pills and took them anyway. You suppose that there is some bright, white line that marks prescribed/pain and black market/recreational drug use.
That makes you the ignoramus.

But, there are also others who have it much worse than me. So I deal with it. And, as I've stated before, a long time acquaintance or casual observer would not have any indication that I was taking prescribed, controlled medication. Thanks for sharing your experience and so sorry to hear about what you have to deal with. Paisley Park is in your heart
