Well, they had to put it out, and they had to find a price range suited for casual nostalgic fans. Now get off your butt, WB, and give us a hundred dollars box next. A booklet worth of royalty. An understanding of sequencing. Compressors that don't pump. I'll wait.
My Amazon preorder just got updated and now says it will be delivered Tuesday June 27.
.
OH HELL NO!!! Canceled.
.
I'll just go to best buy at 10am and get it there.
.
On the positive side...perhaps this means they are selling better than initially expected. If so, then that's great news.
Are you a prime member?
.
Ya, for a couple years now. I remember even selecting the release-day delivery during checkout. Prior to today, it stated expected arrival was Friday. But sometime today it switched to Tues 27th.
Oh Lord.im a prime member also but my order still says it's expecting to ship today and be here on Friday.they better get to it!
Overall, as well as being so very, very welcome and very, very good it listens like a bit of a grab-bag of the various states Prince was in in 1983/1984. Some stuff that sounds very live (Love&Sex [granted it might not be live at all but it sounds it]), some that sounds just like Prince going for in the studio on his own (Possessed, We can Fuck) and some that just sound like unfinished sketches for songs he never completed (Velvet Kitty Cat, Katrina's Paper Dolls).
It'd be a good introduction to Prince bootlegs but it's certainly not what i'm looking for from future re-releases, should they happen. We need a proper sessions series.

I saw your first post about this, immediately checked my email, and saw that mine had just shipped. So I wonder what happened with yours?

I opened up a chat with Amazon support. Long story short, we reordered it with 1-day shipping, so it would arrive on the 23rd, and they waived the 1-day shipping fee. They could not explain why my preorder was delayed, but at least I'm re-scheduled to get it Friday.
.
Out of all the preorders they could've fucked up, why THIS ONE ?!?!?!

Well, we were feeling your pain but glad it has been resolved!
So, "We Can Ffff" holds one's attention for the whole 10 minutes, hunh? I'm impressed. Can't wait til Friday!
I don't have the cd yet but could listen to the whole vault cd that has leaked entirely. We can fuck is indeed one of the highlights. Has a temptation vibe to it. I played those 2 songs back to back. Worked perfectly and very nasty can you imagine those 2 songs back to back on one side of an album in '85
Sadly, it's a thing. Sometimes I end up looking like that little asshole Hoggle or whatever from Labyrinth.
a few weeks after my 38th i woke up like this one morning
¿Qué Labyrinth? This is the hog from Dark Crystal! Alas, where has all the good culture gone?
The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams
why does anyone assume this the '86 version of Wonderful Ass. sonically, there's NOTHING to indicate it except for the fact that it contains Lisa so prominently, and as she said, she sang co-lead on it anyway?
I think we've just been assuming all this time that it's the 1986 version, but it could realistically be the 1983 version we've been unknowngly listening to all this time.
or maybe the research is wrong and that it was really worked on all that much by W&L as we were led to believe
because there's nothing about Prince '86 about this song to my ears. 1986 had a sound for Prince, and this isn't it.
I think it's Susannah and Wendy we hear the most on WA. Lisa, she seldom sounds so assured and cocky. Lisa, prove me wrong!
Well, 1986 has other stuff that doesn't sound like 1986's Prince. At the time, no one would have guessed he was already in Crystal Ball territories. We were just blown away by "Kiss". Which in no way resembles "Manic Monday", which was still very much musically valid in 1986, even though it originated in early '84.
"Time is a construct", remember?

Quick, somebody get this thread back on it tracks...

“Wendy and her twin sister, Susannah, are pretty famous for having nice butts. And Prince did have one of the world’s cutest butts. Prince was dating Susannah, and I was with Wendy. It was us being goofy about our girlfriends. I sang co-lead with Prince. It was a happy-go-lucky time.”
You could still be right if it's a completely different recording (I haven't listened to it yet) but it feels like Lisa's talking about the specific version being released on Purple Rain Deluxe. It does feel out of character somewhat, though, you're right.

Thanks!
Well I can now go to bed without worrying cuz Amazon just shipped out the purple rain deluxe cd! I chatted with a representative and they said it would arrive on time and for me not to worry Usually I wouldn't care or mind Amazon being a day late but NOT this time

I always thought WA was written about Vanity and was left off of 1999. Not so sure about what Lisa is saying.

Yes, that's what I always thought too but I can't recall the source for that.
Actually the booklet looks like shit. Most CDs booklets do, but this one... Half an inch more and the words would have been cut. What a bad, bad art direction. The silver finishing of the sleeve is nice, though. At first I thought "here's some shitty grey gradient if I ever saw one". Sometimes it's nice to be proven wrong.
Wonderful Ass is great, full of details but I'm not a fan of the EQ. There's a HQ bootleg circulating with a better mid-range frequencies. But hey, this one is really tricky to get the hi-hat just right.
Possessed is excellent. Never heard that version before.
Love and Sex is a prototype that evolved in "Rebirth Of The Flesh", and even bears a je-ne-sais-quoi of Lovesexy on its sleeve. Always fun to hear him unabashed.

Its going to be a long wait I hate to tell you. With all the confusion surrounding this, people who played on these records etc...deciding who gets to do any of the mastering (if even masters exist) and the quality of what Prince has stored away, just because there is the Vault does not mean that he was putting polished recordings away for release. I am sure there is a good selection in there but I think also fans are getting a little crazy thinking all of this stuff is going to start flooding out the gates.

Wait...what? Wonderful Ass is about Vanity! Why is she saying this? Even Susan Rogers acknowledged this. [Edited 6/22/17 6:16am]

I have been looking at older Prince org post. I will try and find it. I think most of the associates can't remember anything because they worked on so much stuff and we know he reworked material all the time and who knows what was true or B.S. that he actually told associates.

Who knows what is going on with the Revolution these days? They should know that a lot of this stuff is out on the bootleg market and thanks to Susan Rogers we know a lot about these tracks.
Combined with the fact that they cannot possiblity remember all the tracks they played on unless they kept a log like Eric Leeds the run the risk of looking very silly.
