Very well, thanks.

So this is only on the file I have and not on the CD itself.

Will replace the file ripping directly my CD when it will arrive.

Just to make sure I'm listening in the right place. Before the drum machines kick in, or before the drums come in after the "huh huh" in the intro?

Difficult to say, I have not the file here in this moment.

Listened to it twice hours ago, if my memory serves well there is the "suspended" intro and the dropouts (minimal, with headphones on) came right before the last P scream and the start of the drum pattern.

Hope this make sense, tonight I will check it again.

“We Can Fuck” is every bit as good as I’d hoped. The way that he builds and sustains the drama during the middle section is masterful. “Love and Sex” is great, “Possessed” is interesting. I actually became quite choked – I miss the little genius more than ever listening to this stuff. x

Ok. I'm not listening with headphones right now so I'll check it out.

I still have to listen to the ending.

From the "here and there" portions I listened to, it is a solid version missing a great bass (a.l.a. Cloreen, to say one).

I'm disappointed with We Can Fuck, not the version as much as the sound quality. Add this one to the "not from master" list. No?

Again, listened only to some portions but for me the sound quality of WCF was OK.

Maybe not clear like EI, but still better than OD/RG.

Well, I don't agree with the whole "not from the master" theory. I do agree the sound quality is lacking on it, for whatever reason.

Yes, the brief chant of “Someone’s in my body” caught me off guard for some reason – Prince at his strange, surreal, libidinous best.

OD / RG seems to be only track that "sounds" like it's a boot to me, everything else is steller for the most part - especially the Hallway Speech which on headphones is definitely thrilling.

Just as I unfortunately predicted, the Paisley Park Remaster sounds HORRIBLE. Very compressed and horribly brickwalled to the point that you can hear the audio clip in some parts (ending of Let's Go Crazy for example). Here's a sample of the waveform of LGC. Top is the 2015 Remaster, bottom is the from the 2011 Reissue mastered by Kevin Gray (ripped from my personal vinyl copy).

As you can see, there's a night and day difference. Then again, i'm not surprised considering how compressed and brickwalled Prince's music has been since the mid 90's that the remaster he supervised would sound this bad. But I hoped it wouldn't. Oh well.

When I saw "overseen by Prince" I expected it too. But, to play devil's advocate Prince definitely wasn't the only offender in the category and still isn't.

Overall, I'm pleased with the vault disc. Most sounds better than I expected, only a handful sound like they're from "inferior" sources. Sure, it's all too "hot" but this I did expect. It's why I'm not excited about the album remaster.

I'll be happy to drop my $ on this Friday and look forward to future vault releases.

That said, I'm already late for an appointment. I don't expect that "sorry sir, I had to listen to the new Prince CD on my good speakers" will go over so I have to motivate. Thanks to those that shared the leak, I'm sure I'll be spinning these tracks on repeat awhile. Now when I get home Friday I can focus on the DVD!! wink

I'm hoping the vinyl will be less offensive, as in the case with the recent Sgt. Peppers remaster.

OK. As I wrote on the other thread, the inclusion of this version of "Wonderful Ass" confused me so I checked a thing.

I got somewhere a CD bootleg titled "Princesex" that contains a longer version of WA (lenght 9:50, as confirmed on Discogs), and to my knowledge that was indicated as the original 1983 version.

I don't listen to it from a lot and I can't remember well, but from what I remember it was more stripped.

Now here we have what we indicated for all this time as the 1986 version included on a 1983/1984 tracks selection.

So we can assume that the so called "1986 version" is simply an 1983/1984 version revamped as it was in 1986 for inclusion in some project (like JIR from 1986 included without variations on GB in 1990, for example). Am I wrong?!?!?

On a side note, someone here remember or have access to the "Princesex" 9:50 version I'm talkin' about to confirm is different?!?!?

I remember the version you're talking about but I don't have it anymore. I think the version on PRDeluxe is the 86 version, plain and simple. It shouldn't be included on this project (although I'm glad it is). In 83 I don't think W & L would be screaming "The Revolution will be heard!"

I think we have already heard "We can Fuck". On the Work/Testament series is a song in the 1983 called "Moral majority" which sounds like the 2nd half of We can funk/We can fuck. There is female backing vocals and Pirnce and a Linn beat and it starts with the "You pour the water on me baby" and you can hear the line "We can fuck one another". It is very muddy though and only a part song, but suspect it is we can fuck.

.

Wow, great call! You were dead on (it). smile

Not that strange really. I don't believe P had anything to do with their mastering. I think I read B. Grundman was mastering the unreleased songs.

What a shame, the waveforms say it all, if Prince "oversaw" this, he certaintly did not oversee the remastering. Pick any random person off the street and they could have done a better job.

Apparantly louder = remastered these days.
