BACONSKIN is 1 of my favorite jams.. showing off Prince's drumming skills

& his sense of humor.

.

"you know the Lord loves the truth.."

.

biggrin

I misplaced my CB cd years ago - so is that "original" baconskin version

15 minutes or 19 minutes long?? can someone confirm that please???

I'll see you tonight..

EXACT SAME as mine.

I somehow "mis"-remember the CB version being around 19 minutes.

I've done some research on google & it looks like the 15.37 length is correct.

I love the idea of just him and Morris goofing off in the studio one day, havin' fun, bein' silly, makin' funky music, lighthearted moments, simpler times.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Looking for something to crank up loud to celebrate June 7 and realized I hadn't played this one in a couple years. I've been remiss...

This is a nastay fonk jam!! Sure, it's not a great "song", if you're hung up on lyrics and melody you might want to give it a pass. But Prince (Jamie Starr) & Morris (Alfred?!?) are laying down the funk down so thick you can smell it.

At 15:37 it might be too long and boring for some of ya, but I'm pissed when it fades out. Gonna replay now. Think a half hour of this nasty groove will upset my neighbors? lol headbang

I'm not too fond of its inclusion on CB.

Like it or not it is just an improvisation, later used as the foundation of "Tricky".
If the will was to give us a long jam, "U Gotta Shake Something" was a real better choice.

And on a side note, when you realise that P cutted away more than 2 minutes of the stunning perfection of "Crucial", the inclusion of 15 minutes of Cloreen sounds frustrating.

I listen to Cloreen 30x more than Crucial on the average. I think Prince made a great choice.

Nice for you.

Probably there will be someone that listen to "Poom Poom" 30x more than Cloreen or Crucial, this is how the world function.

LOVE this! A rare glimpse into Prince and Morris just messing around on the studio. And that funk could go on forever, as far as I'm concerned.

Now slap me and call me Alfred.

I've always assumed the Alfred stuff is a reference to the way Miles Davis says "is that what you wanted Alfred?" at the end of One for Daddy-O.

Or maybe it is about his brother Alfred. Who according to Charles Smith did do some singing when he was young and use to walk around with a James Brown hairdo.

No offense to anyone now or in the future, but can this be just about Cloreen?

He mentions Alfred! lol

I remember the rumors about mythical Alfred. And who knew, turns out that...

he's referencing his older brother Alfred...his cousin Chazz has even talked about how him and P would listen to Alfred's James Brown records and check out Alfred's clothes when they were kids...then after Prince passed, the mythical Alfred was all over TV, concerning the estate matters...he looked pretty much like i imagined he would...

Cloreen + Tricky make a great little playlist!

Someone should do a remix so Tricky is mixed throughout (if it hasn't already been done).

Wow, that was would be funky. The first time I heard Tricky, it was remixed with Irresistable Bitch, mid-80s...
