Steve Parke shares early Emancipation configuration

Aside from the lack of The Love We Make and it still being too damn long - Dig U Better... She Gave Her Angels... Journey 2 The Centre... A Thousand Hugs and Kisses...

Although still lacking Love Never Has 2 Say Goodbye.

Interesting, none the less.

Interesting to see couple of unknown titles. If It Aint (Gut Bucket) could be a lovely ballad.

Wow! Closing the album with a throwaway like Funky Design?! That could have been the worst closing track of all time.

Would love to hear that version of 1000 hugs and kisses.

Also wondering if Heart In My Hand is a Steele's cover. Loved that song on their album. The thought of a Prince version is exciting.

Given the rest of the covers were Prince versions, probably a good chance it was his version.

Are we sure this is legit?!?!?!?

It seems really odd to see C&D tracks on an "Emancipation" configuration, and to also see "Eye Will" divided from "Into The Light" when they were planned and recorded as we have in C&D.

I love Funky Design! especially the Sonny version with the 'blow your mind, blow your mind' in the chorus.

.

Also interesting to see Into The Light and I Will not in sequence as they seem more or less like 1 track on C&D.

Unless it was an entirely different song with the same name.

Parke is a reliable source so this must be a projected configuration before Prince decided to use those songs for the Chaos and Disorder album. I do wonder though, if these are different versions of the songs, because the C&D production doesn't really fit the predominant style used on Emancipation and as you point out, 'Eye Will' has been divided from 'Into the Light'.

Curious about the new songs though. I wonder if 'Funky Design' was intended as a hidden track since Prince has written it backwards?

not surprising to see another configuration popping up, he must have made
dozens of them. love to see these things being put online, it's so nice to be
able to view early configurations of albums.

lord knows i've made about 20 of them over the years just for my pleasure lol

he had so many songs to put on there eek

seems like he wrote some of the best tracks late into the process, stuff like
'the love we make', 'my computer', 'white mansion', 'in this bed i scream',
'joint 2 joint' and 'dreamin about u'.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Interesting also that all the tracks on the first configuration were retained for this, all barring "I Am The DJ".

Anyway, the tracklist and the flowing seems somewhat even more un-balanced than the released version.

What, you think Steve Parke is making shit up? Bish, pls. C'mon now, of course it's legit. lol

It does seem odd about C&D, unless you think about the time frame. He was working on Emancipation stuff for a while, and C&D was in the mix, too. I'm surprised/not surprised to see the C&D stuff as part of it. Of course, now in hindsight it's totally odd and almost bizarre considering the darker angsty mood on C&D, and the lighter approach to Emancipation. But I would bet if we had recording dates, we'd be rather surprised.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Fascinating! Particularly the way Emancipation, C&D and TVOF4S are still something of a merged project.

.

What is really important for us to know now is when exactly is this tracklist from?

Did Steve Parke say so?

If not, could those of you who are friends with him on FB ask him? Thx smile

According to Princevault, "Into The Light" and "I Will" were recorded in February 1996, and we know C&D was released in July 1996.

I think this tracklist have to be of February/March 1996, not later.

Late 1995, most likely, considering C&D was compiled in late January 1996. Earlier configurations of Eman were single discs from mid-1995 and later.
