The rarest track I've ever heard is something called "Batten Down The Hatches", a loose soundcheck jam with members of Prince's band and Rick James' band recorded sometime during the 1981 tour. It's funky, LOUD, and loose with Prince and others trading verses/chorus. One of the lyrics was something like, "Push this down, we gotta get up! Batten down the hatches!".

I heard it on a raritities CD I listened to at a Japanese music store in Shinjuku, Japan circa 1990 or so. Even then I knew it was rare as hell but I didn't have the 5,000 Yen or so to buy the CD at the time.

If that is true then it is rather stupid of WB not to include those versions on the Purple Rain deluxe version. Still can´t believe that they´d rather fill one CD with radio and single edits instead of such rare gems. And some other PR outtakes should´ve been on it as well.

true for money but not for music if you're not planning to sell it. It's even rather sad to keep it just for yourself without a good reason. Isn't it nicer to share and talk about it? Or is it just to 'make up'?
