Just include this song, Old Friends 4 Sale, the bare bones drum, bass, piano, synthesizer version with the deep lyrics. Maybe on a Parade Deluxe album with All My Dreams on it for sure.

I love it. It's so poignant. Everything P says in it is relevant, especially the "maybe it'll all make sense, when I'm dead" line.

Version without the strings and horns and original lyrics is the best, especially sueged into All My Dreams. So sad and endearing. His vulnerability is so felt!

Late 85? Wow, down with bootlegs pre-Black Album then? I wasn't aware of boots till early '88. Got "Charade" on vinyl that summer.

Did Prince get this to a dj or two to play as a promo for the movie or was the dj just the huge Prince fan I know he was. I never knew to ask the question back then, because I assumed it would either be on the album or a Bside

I just listened to the original again--it really says a lot about his life at the time...and what affected Prince's life later on IMO. And, yes, that was a wonderful period in a lot of our lives...

Indeed, the Parade Sessions boot released a few years back sounds gorgeous, I don't think an official release can improve much on sound quality. The circulating version with strings doesn't sound too good, though, and it would anyway make sense to include that one in a Parade Deluxe set.

Yes that is a part of the reason it is a favorite, it is a real response to things happening in his life, and connects the 1984-1985 period. That is why I really like Hello too and the demos. The demos always feel like I'm in a room with him late at night or early morning listening to very intimate events.

A masterpiece of a song, i hope we can get it in the future in perfect sound quality. The original version is beautiful and haunting at the same time.
