Watched part of that stupid documentary last night.

Chris Moon says he wishes he had just introduced Prince to some girl, they could have gotten married, had a couple of kids, and Prince could have retired an old man on a rocking chair, sitting on his front porch after decades of working at a factory.

And he (Chris Moon) would have preferred that to making Prince famous.

After the other-worldly success of Purple Rain, which Prince likened to an albatross which would hang around his neck forever, he also observed that 'I've been to the mountaintop...there's nothing there.'

He knew....yet was unable to disconnect himself from the destructive, soul-crushing lure/constraints of fame/success.

We know he tried with a wide range of unconventional assaults on the hit-making machinery but, in the end, envisioning a small, crumpled figure cold and alone in an elevator..the old man in a rocking chair, surrounded by much loved children and grandchildren, would have been a better.

Better for whom?
Prince's life was his to live, not yours or Chris Moon's.

That'd he be in his 90's; doing mainly jazz as he progressed; kind of like Miles.

that's right and who can imagine prince working at some factory for forty years and being satisfied with that? I don't think Prince tried that hard to disengage from stardom, if he wanted to do that there were many better ways and in all honesty, he was on the fringes for the majority of his career with a strong fanbase sustaining him while the general public wasn't aware of anything he did.

It's more going on than you think.

Two Private Investigators have been hired to find out and one is ex FBI.

i'll be following as much as i can for as long as I live.

Here's the simple answer--any way but the way it did. And anyone who claims that this was a death of a man in control is not facing the facts. He was heading into a plan to break his addiction to a substance he was using illegal scripts to get hold of. There's no control in that. He had almost died days earlier. He was in his elevator, for crying out loud--discovered by people trying to help him kick his addiction. There's no plan here, there's no control freak--there's a man out of control, who didn't make it quite long enough to get the help he was already planning to get, because he took a drug that was mislabeled (so he didn't even have control of that). It was stupid, and a very talented, complex, but (I believe) basically good man who gave those of us here and many others so much through his hard work, incredible talent, and (through most of his life) self control and focus left this world in a way that has absolutely no redeeming aspects. There is nothing good in or about his death. He's dead. He shouldn't be. End of story.

This pretty much nails it ... possibly. But I don't think we'll ever know what role the mislabeled pills played. They might've been what killed him or they might not. The only way we'll get close to knowing how he died, imo, is if Kirk tells the truth about his role in Prince opioids use. And that doesn't seem likely since it will probably put him in jail, at minimum for giving a prescribed drug to another person. The whole thing is just so sad and cruel.

Uhhhh...pretty sure the medical examiner made that determination.

Unless his death was staged to look like an "accidental overdose" to cover up other health issues-- a terminal illness-- that he didn't want anyone to know.

Staged how? Toxicology reports don't lie. He died of what he died of - an overdose of fentanyl. That fact (yes, fact) was made public.

Are you suggesting that the medical examiner and several public officials lied about the cause of death?

In retrospect, I think it ended perfectly. His life and career had come full circle. He died on the day he recorded Sometimes it Snows. He died shortly after performing a great concert in Atlanta, hosting a party for fans at Paisley, hanging out at the record store, riding his bike, recording music, hanging out with friends, etc. Death is always tragic. Often times something could have been done by the person or others. But, death is reality and always sad. We wanted him to somehow die of old age. That is fantasy. If he had died in a car accident because he was texting or slipped in the shower or had some horrible form of cancer would we feel any better? I would actually feel worse. I really think it was a perfect ending. We need to embrace it even though it breaks our heart. [Edited 5/13/17 5:50am]

He did end at a good time; whenever would be a bad time because I never wanted it to end, Not yet; it was way too soon for me but it ended well after great concerts at least.

Exactly.Prince died from taking an overdose of fentanyl. Not sure why some fans wanna dispute that,or choose another narrative to believe....or insist there was some kind of conspiracy to hide the "truth" confused

My point exactly. He died of "accidental" overdose of fentanyl to possibly cover up his terminal illness.

I've read of people killing themselves because of a terminal illness, e.g. director Tony Scott.

To escape pain, maybe. Not to "cover up" an illness. That suggests that, if he had cancer, he was ashamed of it, which makes absolutely no sense.

It took years for Freddie Mercury to admit he had AIDS until he released a statement a day before he succumbed to it.

Prince was still young, so I never thought about how it would end for him. I never heard of any drug issues he had. I knew about his hip pain, but never that he had an dependency on pain pills, so it never crossed my mind that he would leave this earth so soon.

.

He always took care of himself, and ate an "almost" vegan diet and lived a clean lifestyle. Never saw him at the Hollywood parties getting wasted, etc., so, I just assumed that he would live a long life, like Chuck Berry did.

.

Nope. I never saw this coming, that's why the day the news broke, I was in complete shock. Like, WTF? Prince?!! No way!! Ya know? sad

.

So Prince having contracted HIV years ago and dying from AIDS is unthinkable? Regardless of the cause of his death, 57 years old is too young to die.

nuts yeah, because there just has to be another reason for his death, right? You want to believe that Prince was terminally ill even though you have no real proof of it.Cover-ups and conspiracies make the story more exciting for you, right? confused

The tragedy is if Prince, indeed, stopped taking his HIV meds, according to reports, due to his misguided "religious beliefs" that God would heal him led to his early demise. Had he come forward about it, it would bring to light the importance of getting tested and taking HIV meds, given that HIV infection in the African American community is a bigger problem, statistically, compared to other racial groups in the U.S.
