How did fans think it was going to end?

How did his fans really think it was going to end for Prince? There would be no grandkids bouncing on his 60 year old knees; perhaps a 24 year old Muse when he was 70. Given his hip/joint problems and reported aversion to surgery, do you think he would have been OK being confined to a wheelchair when he wasn’t being carried around by Kirk? There would be no comfort from a long-lasting, matured bond of love, no special anniversaries to commemorate commitment, loyalty, devotion. He made that choice long ago.

Maybe he would have been the older gentleman standing in his museum atrium in front of 50 year old photos of himself as a sex-guitar God in all his skin tight spandex glory. Doesn’t sound like fun times to me. Can’t see him chatting up strangers on the ticket line, either.

Perhaps a fountainhead of musical encouragement, training, seasoning…but, wait…his only real experience in this area was with younger (sometimes much younger) women…too limiting. Ahh…a hint.

For all the genius,( never to be denied), charisma, drive, soulfulness, love of God, hard-earned success, physical beauty…all the gifts he had; Prince was profoundly limited in many ways…just like any other human being…even musical Gods.

I have cried many tears over his loss, there isn’t a day I don’t wake with his music in my mind, I have screamed at the sky at the injustice of his death at 57…but, just perhaps…just maybe…it ended the way he wanted it to. Control freak to the end. On his on terms. In his home, not a hospital. The eternal man of mystery, not an impaired cripple wracked with pain. No more makeup/ masks, costumes/clothing, love or maybe just lust…nothing but space and joy.

Try to find peace in this. His music lives for eternity. Dance on.

.
Try again, starting with some truth.
He was not averse to surgery (he had at least two visible scars on his lower extremities).
.
Don't make him a tragic victim. He had much love and knew he was loved.
.
Don't make yourself a tragic victim.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Good point about the surgical scars. No, I don't think he was a tragic victim but I do believe that because of his extreme awareness/sensitivity to beauty in himself and others...he was not going to do well ageing, and he knew it.

Here's the simple answer--any way but the way it did. And anyone who claims that this was a death of a man in control is not facing the facts. He was heading into a plan to break his addiction to a substance he was using illegal scripts to get hold of. There's no control in that. He had almost died days earlier. He was in his elevator, for crying out loud--discovered by people trying to help him kick his addiction. There's no plan here, there's no control freak--there's a man out of control, who didn't make it quite long enough to get the help he was already planning to get, because he took a drug that was mislabeled (so he didn't even have control of that). It was stupid, and a very talented, complex, but (I believe) basically good man who gave those of us here and many others so much through his hard work, incredible talent, and (through most of his life) self control and focus left this world in a way that has absolutely no redeeming aspects. There is nothing good in or about his death. He's dead. He shouldn't be. End of story.

This pretty much nails it ... possibly. But I don't think we'll ever know what role the mislabeled pills played. They might've been what killed him or they might not. The only way we'll get close to knowing how he died, imo, is if Kirk tells the truth about his role in Prince opioids use. And that doesn't seem likely since it will probably put him in jail, at minimum for giving a prescribed drug to another person. The whole thing is just so sad and cruel.

I never thought it was going to happen like it did. Nobody out his circle knew he was addicted to opioids ( that fucked me up ) so I guess we all thought he would just slow down and get old. Maybe step out every now and then to check on his museum or receive some lifetime award for his contributions. I know people say he was in pain and I get it, but for a man who was always aware of what's going on out here I don't know how he fell victim to one of the biggest killers around. I heard today on the news that opioids kill 93 people a day in America. Damn shame

none of us know what happened, people had been saying things for years about his pill abuse and prince was a smart man, i'm sure he knew what was coming. Ya, i know, he had plans for this, plans for that he also did a lot of things that left clues. None of us know the whole story, not me, not any of you. I'm tore up about it like many people, i have screamed "goddamn you prince" about 300 times in the last year but I'll be damned if i look at that man as a pathetic figure, lonely, in pain, or whatever some of you people want to see him as. He had a great life. you want to talk sad, how bout people i've known who might have died of aids or cracked their heads on a sidewalk while people laughed when they were dying? that's sad, not Prince.

Brilliant in every way and circumstance. In his music and demeanor there was something he was hiding alone in the most isolating way. Based on this, I believe he left in his way into the hands of God. The prohet/poet/brilliant man had given all he could to the very end, every ounce of his body, mind, spirit to music. He left it all on the stage and I thank him for allowing his music to lift me through every challenge life has presented for 30 year.. Future Soul Song ...Some where here on earth. always

we don't know everything but yes, that gets me too, he knew all about addiction, and he sounded like me at least at some stages of his life, didn't even tolerate it around him. other day I was watching the people vs. larry flynt, his girlfriend died of an od and flynnt said the only reason he didn't kill himself was that he was too cowardly. the girlfriend had full blown aids, she od'd and drowned in a tub but flynnt said she would have died in a year regardless. Lots of people do themselves in when they don't want to go through the indignity of dying slowly, I've thought of that as a possibility, i've thought that maybe his carelessness may have been because he knew his time was short anyway, and I've also thought that the master manipulator knew how to pull off an exit which clouded everything. but as i said, none of us know, i do believe time will reveal it all though. Mystery might be ok for many of you but there will always be the assholes out there who twist that mystery for their own little spin. One of Elvi's stepbrothers tried to say he committed suicide, which, unless you're talking about the way any addict destroys themselves, is flat out a lie and used to sell a story. one of his girlfriends, kathy westmoreland tried to say he had bone cancer, the doctors originally tried to cover it all up by saying it was a heart attack but it's pretty clear, his health was ruined by pills and that more likely than anything triggered the decline of his health and the heart attack that killed him.

susan rogers said "he had a secret and that secret was that he was in pain" but we don't know that. I watch some of his performances and i gotta tell you as an old athlete, he was moving around and running and shit a lot more freely than I would do it. Old athletes and old people hesitate because they know they have to hold a reserve when they start hopping around or their will be pain. And I'm not even talking a lot of pain, but unless i'm thouroughly warmed up, i don't just run around like he did in that Judith Hill video. watch any old athlete and if you're perceptive you'll see stiffness and pain in their carriage. So we don't know what pain, how much or any of that. total fucking mystery, just like he liked it.

Even in the Piano & Microphone concert screening they showed us at Paisley Park (months before April 21st) , he easily climbed on the piano then & sat criss cross applesauce.

i'm sure he did, the this can be us pics and so on. He did however age rapidly in the last five years. the tribute show he had on BET he looked superb for a fifty some year old, just superb. no one wants to be mean now but I've seen plenty of shitalkers over the years, one guy said he aged "25 in the last 5" before he died. And of course his ever loving fans were always saying kind things about his new clothes and makeup, oh don't get me started, I'm still angry at how his fans rode his ass on here. Prince was like their daily pinata.

You know i'm not sure you should be. I mean, ok occasionally people went way overboard and i'm sure you have a few examples of that kind of thing, no argument about that, but bearing in mind he used to be here himself and by all accounts mostly found it amusing I'd say he knew it just showed that people really cared about his music.

Releasing a song like FUNK after the whole Prince Fans United debacle was a pretty damn funny response, or taunting "haters on the internet" on No More Candy 4 U lol

Besides, stuff like "lovesex that's my jam" deserved to be mocked mercilessly.

he couldn't do no right, people were just mean. anyone of us over a certain age know that you cannot really listen to lot of people because everyone is going to have a complaint, an idea or some advice, and it really would just drive you crazy trying to follow so many voices. you multiply that times all the stuff a guy in the public eye has to hear and imagine how difficult that can be. I wouldn't just gloss over any of it too much, and I'm not saying the guy shouldn't or couldn't be criticized but his fans,(key words 'his fans") just seemed to relish waiting for any step he made so they could rip the shit out of it. don't take my word for it, go back and look. I doubt he laughed at all of it.

know what you mean, i got booted defending prince and called some guy names, seemed like it was ok poking fun at prince but not the people who did it. funny thing i noticed in my life, it's the people who are the cruelest who have the thinnest skins.

anyway, one thing that does come to mind after his death and that was the criticism about his third eye girl sunglasses. When his avatar had the glasses removed i think it became evident what he was saying for the last couple years. Prince always had a bigger picture in his worldview and although many people had run ins and disagreements, problems, much of it was due to him just seeing things too broadly for all the average folks. That in no way excuses his very real mistakes.
