Most likely not done by him, but perhaps a group of messages for manufacturers to randomly write on any particular release.
Discogs lists some interesting notes about those:
"Numbered cardboard sleeve with title sticker on front sleeve, liner notes sticker by Jim Walsh on the back sleeve & hand-engraved "hidden messages" in the runout grooves of the yellow ("gold") translucent vinyls."
Then lists:
- Matrix / Runout (Side A): PRO-A-7835-A SR-I
- Matrix / Runout (Side B): PRO-A-7835-B SRI
- Matrix / Runout (Side C): PRO-A-7835-C-SRI
- Matrix / Runout (Side D): PRO-A-7835-D-SRI
- Matrix / Runout: [SRC logo] ❀
- Matrix / Runout (Side A): "DEFEND YOUR RIGHT 2 DIE AND LIVE AGAIN"
- Matrix / Runout (Side B): " . . . U CAN CUT OFF ALL MY FINS BUT 2 YOUR WAYS I WILL NOT BEND"
- Matrix / Runout (Side C): " . . . THERE'S A MOUNTAIN AND IT'S MIGHTY HIGH, U CANNOT SEE THE TOP UNLESS U FLY"
- Matrix / Runout (Side D): " . . . U DANCE 4 A DOLLAR, I KNOW HE DIDN'T MAKE U HOLLAR"
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure many orgers own this it would be interesting to hear the random messages. Who would know exactly how many messages were printed |

Most of my Parliament albums that I had back in the day also had 'hidden' messages in that space between the last groove on the album and the label. There was some weird shit scrawled in that little 1/2 inch space, let me tell you. They all had to do with a Parliament lyric or slogan. Strange..... |

You mean how many different messages? The ones listed are reliable as the only known variations. Discogs is ever changing, but usually pretty accurate on such things.

No ignorance assumed. Discogs is a great place for referencing such things (and buying and selling vinyl, too!). It's funny you bring up this album on vinyl, because it's always been a bit pricey, but has always bee on my "Get This Now!" list. I think one day soon I might just give in and spend the cashola to get it. I recently acquired the "Gold" 12" gold vinyl single. (No writing on that one, to my knowledge.)

A copy sold on ebay UK a couple of hours ago for £275!
Nice thing.

I've never been able to find any concrete info on this over the years. I'm going with (a guess) of 3000. I've never seen any numbered higher than that. If you do a search of this site you will find a thread with info of one numbered 2734. |

I prefer Love Symbol, Come, Chaos & Disorder, Emancipation and Rave. Oh, and probably New Power Soul as well. I appreciate the tightness on TGE, and the songwriting is certainly of a high standard, but it all sounds a little OTT for my tastes. |

Bought it at a wrecka stow in Florida on a family vacation back in '97, paid $20-30 for it.

So, what are the messages in the grooves? I got rid of all of my Parliament albums years ago so I can't look them up. One of them was about Flashlight. One was something about the Mothership Connection.

My promo has the same messages in the same order as above
