So which one are you gettin? Super deluxe or just the double? And how many copies yo?

If the psckaging doesn't blow my mind ... which is likely considering the repugnant cover ... WB won't be getting my money .. i already bought the purple tinted cassette this year ... prince was loaded ... his family will be too ...

Hopefully most don't feel as you do. The more people with that attitude, the less we'll get. What they are offering is well worth the price they're charging.

Except that Only WB benefits from this release ... not the fam .. and wasn't this rhe ONLY release p agreed to before dying ... so WB is not likely going to give us any more ... maybe the estate will .. but clearly wb barely has enough audible material to work with if the are releasing bootleg quality out takes .. and at that LIKELY AGAINST PRINCE WISHES ... so supporting WB will only give us more bootlegs IF they even have the right to release anything else ...

Hey, WB was instrumental in Prince becoming an icon. I'll give them it for them being so great to fleet wood mac prince et. al...

It's nice.

Prefer the the rockiness of the rehearsals and live performances. I'm really missing BrownMark's groovybass segue into RHG and I also prefer the tone of Wendy's guitar playing the main riff rather than keys in this release.

But I still like it.

agree 100% with you.

I am finding it very tough to adjust after hearing the b day show versions.

Apple is now a record company? I thought they did computer stuff.

I thought that Prince (the old stuff) was with Warner, so why didn't they confirm?

Because of the "two incredible albums of previously unreleased Prince music and two complete concert films"?

.

One way to more or less properly treat a concert, a film is promoted here: https://www.youtube.com/w...qiHnXBWaoY

From that promo shows a bit more love than the set that is left after omitting the extra concert film and the extra disc of unreleased music.

Maybe that perception is subjective but the numbers still are objective:

They promised a lot more in their fake news broadcast via Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.c...ic-w466431

.

So what happaned? What story didn't we get to hear? Did that one extra tape of unreleased material fall apart due to age while attempting to rescue the audio? Did Lonnie ask for too much? (or wasn't he even involved here?)

.

Even now that Prince is dead and the record company can freely roam in the vault (UMG is 'out'?) we still get more materials via bootleggarz.

So what does that say about abilities to monetize on stuff?

The wrecka company is way too slow.

Do they really think there will be a market left for this material 50 years from now?

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Wow, so much misinformation there. (Do ya read the Org? smile )

Apple acts as a record company just like Target or Best Buy does. When I interviewed Macy Gray years ago, she talked about how Target acted as a record company when they agree to exclusive distribution deals. The artist isn't saying "Oh, I'll add 3 songs just for Target because I'm a fucking great person". Target sets up that deal with the artist, as does Best Buy for exclusive sets or packages. Everyone should know the music business is very different these days. Thank God for Target or Best Buy or Walmart or Apple or Tidal getting exclusive sets like that, to offer a lower price on the week of release. Record companies being boiled down to three or four conglomerates stifles the whole system. If any retail outlet can air that out - I'm all for it.

We've discussed this ad nauseum, but many those 7" edits were previously unreleased on CD. That's the rub. Yes, they've been released - only on vinyl or cassette, but not CD format, not as a whole. Yes it's a word play or a technicality, but it's a record company trick. Once folks learn those tricks in wording and read it for what it is, the surprises will be more focused. The same story goes for 4Ever.

We know that earlier press release was flat out misspoken, perhaps a bit premature. Good intentions, but they miscalculated on their timeline. Sucks because the 2nd concert film was the First Avenue gig, but it wasn't finished in time to be put with this set. It might see the light of day as a separate release or part of something else. But people close to the vest have stated WB is working on that video. It was to be the 2nd concert (the first being Syracuse). I'm not sure it could be a stand-alone release, though. I'd buy it if it were coupled with the 1984 Birthday gig or something equally desirable.

You nailed it when you said it's subjective. Again, it's that word play from WB. Every record company has done it. No doubt, it's a shitty game they play, but Prince fans are smart enough to figure these things out, I believe.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Another thing with Our Destiny being tacked on to Roadhouse Garden is that in this day of streaming and revenue on a track by track basis I'd that someone who is not a hardcore fan like us may not know there is a good track buried at the end of that torturous one and just skip it. I wouldn't blame anyone. Who will sit through 3 minutes of that? It's like click after the first 45 seconds tops.

Hopefully that's fixed (for their sake) before the album is released.

I feel the same way about that as I do all the other tracks people have skipped after a few seconds--people deserve to miss every great thing they choose to miss because they're too impatient or too limited by their expectations to let a song go to its conclusion. Besides, there's two titles listed--if people are too lazy to read the whole title, than they definitely deserve to miss the second one. I doubt those who click through will make that much difference in the streaming revenue anyway--it's one bonus track on an outtakes disc on a 33-year-old album--who besides hardcore fans are going to be listening to Our Destiny anyway, regardless of whether its the second part of a track or its own track?

It's very likely that these extras are sourced from Warner's own archives. Before Paisley Park was built - and likely after - the standard procedure is to run a set of tapes (back then it would have been cassettes) of near finished / unmixed tracks from all sessions to the a&r at the label. Remember, this studio time was paid for by WB. Even if it was a home studio, Prince would have been reimbursed for that studio time. Therefore it would have been work created under the WB contract. Also, this was LONG before Prince had any bad feeling towards WB - they were helping become a STAR, and had signed-off supporting his vision for a movie. Anyway, a lot of material (finished of unfinished) is sitting in WB own vault. Which leads me to believe some of the very good bootlegs actually leaked from WB. I worked at labels for 15+ years, not in A&R either, and I still have very rare mixes and unreleased tracks kicking around. Not major acts, granted, but within a label before streaming technology became the norm, we had to run off CDRs (in my day) to multiple people just to give them an idea of how an album was shaping up, etc.

I know by severals trusty sources that EXTENDED UNRELEASED versions of > 17 days / Adore / The ballad of Dorothy Parker are still in WB's VAULT amoung others !

I would love to streaming numbers of the album Lovesexy. I think you sit height and mighty on your imaginary horse, but I doubt that album as a long-play without cuts gets much plays.
Thank god for for the long versions and singles on hits packages or else I rarely listen to it on streaming services.

Well for that I was just more thinking of anything that is of better quality than those cheap iPod earbuds y'know? Like even budget headphones like the Sony MDR-7506 or Audio Technica M50x or lately Ive been using the Sennheiser HD 598s and switching between that and the M50x

I doubt Lovesexy gets streamed much either--but when I wanted to hear just Anna Stesia and streaming it was my only option a few days ago, I clicked on the album, found A.S. in the middle of the track, and listened to it. It's not that tough. But I doubt Lovesexy with separate tracks would get that much play, either. If most people want Prince, they're going to the single tracks from the hits collections anyway--they don't want the album cuts.

High and mighty--imaginary horse. Okay. That's cool. I still feel the same way--if something doesn't fit your taste or expectations, and you choose not to stick it out to the end because you've decided you don't like it--then you chose not to stick it out, and it's not anyone else's fault but your own if you miss something from making that choice. I regret taking out all the more natural yous from my original post and substituting people in order to avoid having it taken personally--since you had listened I didn't want you to think I was talking about you in particular. But I seem to have offended you anyway. And I still don't think the streaming revenue on the track will be significant no matter how it's divided or not divided.

Two films. Or is `Live` counted asa two titles?

Same for the rehas of the singles, etc?

It's two discs besides the remastered album but in any other way they missold us four items besides the remastered album and htus delivered only three discs total.

Apple does CDs? Does iTunes make CDs? Do they have exclusive releases? Of course. Does WEA, etc have a digital market? Of course. So a company doesn't need to press a CD to act as a record company. If a movie maker only releases digital formats, are they not a film company?

Listen, when someone in the industry tells me that, because they've signed on a dotted line and done the work with said outlets, then I'll take their word on it. 2017 is a very different market and business model. When I say "act like a record company", they are signing contracts with an artist, agreeing to fees and payments, distributing content, promoting it, etc.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
