Luvgirl, I strongly recommend cancelling the ITunes order and waiting until we get closer to the release date. If you have Prime, there's a strong possibility that the MP3 (autorip) version of the album could hit your library the day before (possibly earlier). [Edited 5/8/17 9:20am] Ok, I will do that. Thanks for the tip.

Lucky you, Amazon Spain just offers the Expanded Version as MP3 files (they don't even mention the DVD).

. The runtime could also be the result of expunging some of the obscenity from the song, coupled with proper playback speed (no generational loss). Which would not rule out that we're getting the 1983 version. He also seemed to be especially proud of the 1983 take ('ode to James Brown'), as another hint of what may have influenced which outtakes to include (if, in fact, he was involved in making all of the outtake selections for PR Deluxe). . I do hope it is the 1984 rendition of the song, and, if so, the completed/vocal version thereof (assuming that it truly exists). . [Edited 5/9/17 20:35pm]

Didn't the press release specifically refer to this being an unheard version of the song - implying the vocal version of the '84 take in the movie?

Disc 2 could well be one of greatest CD's of music we've ever had. The equal of 1999 and Purple Rain.

I"d like 2 know who made the sequencing & the choice of the songs >> Susan Rogers with The Revolution??? ....WB only ???
Would be very interresting 2 know !!

. My speculation is that P delivered ~2014/15 his own PR Deluxe configuration with a very slim amount of outtake material (not all of which few songs were used on this 2017 release), and perhaps also submitted material for use in compiling a future 'Vault'-themed release(s) as well, prior to his passing, from which Disc 2 is collectively derived. The song choice was probably not made by P (most likely by WB internally, with some limited consultation outside). And I believe no side, P, WB, or other associates, went to any special effort for the material submitted; no pulling out the masters, or locating obscure mixes or tracks that weren't already at ready disposal (digitzed at PP), in private high-ranking collectors' or associate's hands in decent quality, or in the WB Archives. . I believe the most glaring absence is the extra-verse 'Purple Rain' (the WDC 'bass' mix may be semi-mythical); since that was discarded relatively early on, it would most likely have required an extensive effort well beyond anything they've been willing to commit to yet, to locate the underlying sound elements and reassemble it/create a new mix. Even locating a decent-quality test cassette ala ML on 4ever, seems too much of a challenge for them. . If I had to guess what P intended for this release when first submitted 3+ years ago, that ultimately ended up on PR Deluxe, certainly 'Electric Intercourse', and probably also OD/RHG, 'Possessed', and perhaps the extended 'Computer Blue'. The other included tracks seem like WB padding the release with other ~1983 material (which is perfectly fine, in the grander scheme of things, and arguably more generous than P would have had it, if it were released several years ago). . [Edited 5/10/17 10:20am] Just for ur information. ..I was enough lucky recently to put a question to the Revolution (internet interview and Q/A with fans) about the supposed different studio versions of WDC (different from the bass version).....they confirmed that several and longer versions do exist in the Vault..even an instrumental version which was due for inclusion in PR motion picture....this was confirmed too by Duane Tudahl , Thank 4 ur reply

. It's an unusual jumble of selections, even if P is solely behind the tracklist. I believe the issue goes back to no one finding it critical enough to hunt down/restore/etc. multitracks, or locate obscurer tracks that haven't already been digitally archived or on some in-house cassette/tape; or something to do with WB's stake in this material. I think he drew from what was readily available. No Vault archaeologists went to work here. . [Edited 5/10/17 17:12pm]

. I'm not in any way doubting you. I fully believe you. I'm addressing why some of these particular tracks ended up as the bonus material versus other highly desirable material more closely related to the album. .

Seems to me that several of these tracks have been candidates for release for a while. Electric Intercourse, Velvet Kitty Kat, Katrina's Paper Dolls, Possessed, OD/RG were all up for selection with Crystal Ball II. AFAIK, they were all chosen by fans, too. . The shitty part of that being that I would kill for If It'll Make U Happy in full and I imagine it would've leaked along with VKK, etc as they were all part of CBII.

That kind of goes back to just handing over what he dusted off many years ago for other [aborted] outtake releases. We're still waiting for the Estate/WB/etc. to put some new sweat equity into these efforts. . [Edited 5/10/17 17:32pm]

Still surprising that most of these songs aren't even Purple Rain-specific songs. Further, it's surprising that Prince, in 2015, put We Can Fuck on something. Not just because of a swear word being a focal point of the song, but because - why? It's not a Purple Rain outtake.

I happen to agree with you. The most glaring is the 17 Days Extended Version.
