Pastor or Pop Star...which one PRINCE?

With the recent rumors of Prince against GAYS!
How do you feel about the once King of Sultry and Sexy Funk who created 'Head', 'Sister', 'Jack U Off', 'Cream' and 'P.Control'...among hundreds of other songs that talk about fornication, masterbation and religion...how can any man stand in front of millions and sing 'Darlin Nikki' and then preach the word of God???

Is it right for he to judge them... a man who is flesh and blood, just like you and I?
Is it ok to force your own personal beliefs on your friends, family, fans???

In my honest opinion, if these rumors are true, this will end his career...he may have a few ppl who continue to buy into this crap... not his beliefs, but his controlling sort of enviromental cult.

Has these rumors made PRINCE look like a biggot?
Who gives him the right to disdain a lifestyle lead by another?
In 1990...he played for thousands in Japan...and stated he'd like to play a song for the girls who like girls, and so my question to you PRINCE...what about the boys who like boys?

your thoughts org?
This is just an interesting forum... I Love Prince regardless...but this is a little bit much if the rumors are true!

I think folks need to chill regardles. Prince had went on record stating that he has no problem with gay people..that it is not his thing (that he was not gay) but that they can be friends etc (see L.A. Times 1982 Robert Hilburn article).
Posessed is the book that claimed that somene told someone he saud something deragatpry about gays. I thought people knew better about this kind of shit. I mean they are always up in arms about not believing "rumors" about Princes lovelife, etc. Interesting.

Prince said in an interview after Rave came out that he won't let anyone style his hair except for gay men.

Not exactly the most culturally progressive statement in the world, but it doesn't exactly sound like intolerance to me either...

If he changed his stance on gays and lesbians, I would hope he would be more upfront about it, and ignore the fact that it will piss alot of people off. I get more frustrated with people who hate gays but are afraid to say it, because then it just becomes an irritating undertone in everything they say and do.

I would be really suprised that someone such as him, who's had the opportunity to travel all over the world, meet millions of people, and be exposed to so much more than the average joe, would return home and become even more intolerant.

Yup it was published in the 2001 Gotham magazine article, the same one which declared him a Jehovah's Witness.

It is only hypocritical (a bigot) when a person says one and "does" (or is doing) the opposite thing. (Notice the words does or is doing, they are present and future tense). In life people go through different things and their opinions will change with this. The things said or done early on in a person's life, doesn't mean that this person can't talk against these things later on in life. In fact I think it is hypocritical if they don't speak out because it is basically turning a blind eye to what he/she has learned in their own life.

As Prince goes, that is why he doen't sing "these" songs anymore and he doesn't curse anymore.

P.Control is a very empowering song about women being in control of their lives -- their bodies and their minds. If you substitute that one little word it would be a cute little ditty(boring).

Considering who P was in 1982 and who he is now, i don't think you can use a quote from that time to represent his point of view now...

regardless...P drives me nuts when he goes on and on in his "sermons' these days...it drove me out of Paisley Park a few times at the last Celebration. BUT, he's free to think, say and do what he wants. The further he walks down this narrow-minded road though, the more my interest in him will wane. I'll always like his old music, I just may become 'one of those fans' who refuses to buy his new material...

whatevs, tho...

How about a quote from an article published in 2001, one year after the alleged incident Alex Hahn reports (from someone who reported Bobby Z to say), when he was well into his JW beliefs?

Why do Gays get so worked up over the thought of someone saying something about them. If he said this, and if he said that, If you wasn't so sensitive maybe you could except Prince the way he is. Or anyone else as far as that goes, He should except gays and gays should except those that disagree with them.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

Until you actually hear Prince say something against gays, you shouldnot pay any attention, it maybe a rumor, someone else could of said something in his presense, you know how things are always taken out of context. Give the guy a break.

When I was attending a concert last year there was two gay guys holding hands in the second row and Prince was very kind to them when he spoke to them from the stage.

i find it kinda sad that so many people here are willing to accept hearsay as fact.

DIDN'T YOU GUYS EVER PLAY THE GAME WHERE YOU PASS INFORMATION DOWN A LINE AND BY THE TIME IT GOT TO THE LAST PERSON IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE?

IF indeed he did say it, fine, judge him according to your life and your beliefs

IF he ever goes on record saying otherwise you're gonna feel pretty stupid for being pathetic and naive

He's JW. they don't beleive in the homo life style.
Does it make him homophobic?

My best friend since childhood is a homo. I don't agree with the lifestyle.
Does it make ME homophobic? what is there to fear?

NO. he's like family to me. NO, he is family to me.

GROW UP guys. leave the gossip to the old maids and the national inquirer.

people come here for a sense of community among like minds.
not the he said she said BULLSHIT.

OK, I just have to say...people are allowed to believe what they want to, as am I. I'm also allowed to be offended and choose to quit listening to someone/supporting them when their beliefs became intolerable to me.

I'm not saying that I take this quote from the Zahn book as fact. It wouldn't surprise me, but whatevs, it's a 3rd party quote in a "let's slam Prince" book.

I AM saying that Prince's preaching has become more outrageous in the past few years and, in my interpretation, become less tolerant and inclusive. If that's what he's feeling now, good for him for saying it instead of hiding his beliefs. BUT It's driving me away from him in some ways...that's all...

One last thing, would y'all quit with the 'homosexual lifestyle' crap? what the f*** is the 'homosexual lifestyle? I am queer and know many other queers. We all live our lives in VERY different ways. THERE IS NO HOMOSEXUAL LIFESTYLE. There are just people living life who are gay, queer, homo, lesbian, bi, whatevs. Wouldn't you think it was funny if I went off about the 'heterosexual lifestyle' and discussed all the bad heteros I've met in my life and how much I don't agree with their ways?

Please quit with the stereotyping and generalizing of an extremely diverse group of people...

you're totally right about that. there is no 'GAY LIFESTYLE'. saying i don't agree with the lifestyle is not what i meant at all. i meant to say that i would never find myself in bed with another dude. his LIFESTYLE is no different than mine. we're almost exactly alike. no one ever knows "about him" unless he lets you know. i understand your frustration. sorry 'bout that.

There's some unique qualities about gay culture that distinguish it from a hetero way of living. Sometimes the concept of a "homosexual lifestyle" is celebrated by others, when they are recognizing our unique point of view and our contributions based on that. Other times the phrase is used to pigeon hole us into a very narrow minded and inaccurate description.
