Questlove losing it over "We can FVck" or losing it over later We can Funk? Apparently, Questlove claims to have heard We can FVCK...NOt surprising he's in love with dirty Prince outtake from the 80's. But he really really seems to love it...or he really loves what Prince eventually was able to do with it in later versions. NOt sure which..LOL https://www.instagram.com/p/BTiiSHmA0NO/

Tell Quest to leak Emotional Pump while he is still vulnerable, we know he has it. [Edited 5/3/17 21:21pm] "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

Cute words, but I love the response of someone in an Instagram comment saying that Questlove should teach a Prince music class in college, mainly because Professor Questlove got the key of the Raspberry Beret "funkathon" wrong - it goes to F#m from A. Maybe it's a typo, but either way, he has to sit in the corner now with the dunce's hat on. [Edited 5/3/17 22:06pm]

He can redeem himself by leaking that long version of 17 Days, though...

Is it quite different to the version on the Box of Chocolates boot? I'm really looking forward to this release. RIP

I think its more along the lines of 83/84 version with Wendy & Lisa backing vocals and Graffiti Bridge version. The BOC version (best one IMO) is the one in sequence with Data Bank and Can't Stop This Feeling, and has Miko guitar solo.

dodger - and as everyone seems to agree that the one with the Miko guitar solo is clearly the best version (I know I do!) - wouldn't it be great if it finally gets released as pristine quality!!

What we can guess from the info we have: "We Can Fuck" is going to sound like a Prince-only more minimal version of the same version of "We Can Funk" that was released on the album Graffiti Bridge with George Clinton added as a collaborator. The bootleg version from 1986 which was a complete re-invention of the song connecting it to "Girl o' My Dreams / Can't Stop This Feeling I Got / We Can Funk" was a "musical" suite idea tied into his movie idea at the time. That one re-arranged it into a brooding dark version with the repeating bassline hook echoed with a rattling buzzing overdriven instrument, finger cymbal, and reverse echo effects on his lead vocal as used in the movie "Poltergeist". But if the other two were in there... awesome. That's why I doubt it's the re-invented 1986 version. I can't believe this official album hasn't leaked! I'm not thinking about the one with Miko. I mean the 10 min one with a long, streched out and moody synth section. The one I have has some overdubs by George Clinton, but those have to be later additions. [Edited 5/4/17 9:18am] The wooh is on the one!

I always listened to the Prince solo early one that surfaced some years ago. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

My favorite is a long gritty minimalistic We Can Funk that I like to blast loud on the speakers. No overdubs. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I think we need to label the two main editions of We Can Funk as the 1982 and the 1986.
Box of Chocolates bootleg has the 1986 version My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I'm referring to a long version of the 82 edition. At least I think that's what it is, even though it has some later additions by Clinton. The extended instrumental sections is played on synths similar in sound to the synths on The Beautiful Ones. The wooh is on the one!

. Yes, some of the same OB-Xa/OB-8 patches are utilized. . I believe it is 1983, and likely prior to the 31 Dec 1983 initial tracking date provided on PrinceVault. This version of the track was worked on multiple times in 1983, early 1984, 1985 and 1986, and was the version placed on the backburner for eventual release. Before dusting it off for consideration during the early GB phases (probably late 1987), and prior to slightly reworking/overdubbing with GC in late '88/early '89, this version was last worked in during the first half of 1986 (unrelated directly to the 'Miko' Washington Ave Warehouse recording from June of that same year, which was possibly recorded as part of a set of material for a musical loosely related to then-considered DF album tracks, although, confusingly, he may have briefly entertained releasing this latter semi-live take on one or more early sketches of the DF album itself). . The GB version features additional work done with GC for (or at least during sessions for) his 'Cinderella Theory' album ca. ~late 1988/1989, and additional overdubs added in ~ Summer 1989 by P after it was reclaimed for use on GB. . The various circulating mixes (the majority of which are from 1989 or 1990), including the official final one, are cross-sections of these miscellaneous additions made over quite a number of years. . Assuming that PR Deluxe includes a semi-finished mix, it should be very much like the 'We Can Funk (30 Years)' (bootlegger attribution) in the iVault 1990 folder, but with those extended suite-like parts that, to date, we have only heard at full length in the low-audio-quality 10+ min version Cinderella Theory/'89-era GB test mix (hopefully without the abrasive wah-wah guitar left in for the entire length of the track). One or two extra verses, no "safe" before "sex between two people", some very 1983-ish Oberheim stabs during the first segment not used in the final GB mix, no scorching 'Batdance'-esque guitar solo, no LoveSexy/89-era P sub-bass stock sample sound used throughout (the same sound is used in 'Melody Cool' and 'Sex', for instance, to illustrate), less refined, LM-1-only drum programming (the GB release has some upgrades in this area). And, importantly, no vocals other than P and some occasional W&L (mostly Lisa). . If it's an even earlier, rougher mix, it will be as above, but less polished (we have a snippet of deliberately low-quality leak of this version as well), more 'tribal' live drumming, more acoustic guitar/sitar, fewer synths and vocals, 'Poltergeist'ish-vocal effect at higher volume (which is in most mixes of the song at very low volume, and which he also recreated for some mixes of the 'Miko' live re-recording as well), etc. . If a naming scheme is needed, I'd propose calling the original the Sunset/studio version vs the Washington Ave Warehouse version (even though these are both imperfect categories, as the latter was probably mixed/worked on at Sunset, and the former may possibly have been first tracked at the Kiowa Trl purple house home studio). . A 3 minutes or so, poor sound quality snippet of We Can Fuck (1983) has been circulating for years, so unless there exists another, entirely different, version that we don't know of, we know exactly what it's gonna be. It's basically the basic tracks of the GB version, but with interesting differences (and without the Clinton chorus of course). There's a very interesting (IMHO) instrumental part on the snippet, kind of climax, that makes me look forward to hearing it in full. But don't expect anything drastically different from the GB version, the snippet is very similar to it and it has absolutely nothing to do with the rerecorded 1986 version.
