and for shits and giggles.. add the instrumental extended Sign Of The Times that was played at the end of the movie. Also add the fabled extended version of The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker and maybe the created, but not released, remixes for I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man and Housequake.

.

Beyond that... and actual concert (not the movie) and then there is the whole period between Parade and Sign Of The Times that could be used, although that might warrant a separate release entirely. A Crystal Factory or Dream Ball, if you will.

Sign is my favorite Prince record.

And it is begging to be remastered.

But there was so much material written and recorded between 1986-1987 that I just don't know what you would put on a Deluxe Edition besides the B-sides that have already been released on the Hits/The B-sides.

You can delve into Camille, Dream Factory or Crystal Ball, but those albums might be officially released someday in one way or another.

Parade would be cool to do, as it has a number of specific outtakes that are great and feel closely connected musically to the all of the official parade tracks.

If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

In an ideal world WB would handle all things Prince from now on with passion and respect. They would hire some real expert to collect breath-taking material for fantastic deluxe-editions and some expert to remaster the album. But given what WB have chosen from the wealth of audio- and video-material that was and is available for the PR-deluxe-edition, I am almost sure that all things coming will qualify more or less as failures.

As far as marketing is concerned, I doubt very much that the "general public" is actually in need of a PR-deluxe-edition. Things have slowed down after the initial post mortem-rush and the "general public" is probably not even listening anymore to the one (and most times only) song it knows, PR.

Thus, people in charge at WB catalogue should rather concentrate on the wishes of fans and cater them with real quality re-releases. But, unfortunately, it is not an ideal world.

Didn't Prince choose was was going to be on Purple Rain Deluxe? I thought he submitted everything to them two years ago.

No, never first . . . Purple Rain and 1999 deserve that honor, since they're what 99% of the general public know.

Having said that, I feel that we are LONG OVERDUE for all of these. Once they all hit their 20 or 25 or 30 year milestones, they should have had deluxe reissues then.

That's what I understood. Prince supplied the remaster, but he didn't have a saying in the extra content.

If I remember correctly, there was only talk about a remaster, not a deluxe-edition while he was alive, right?

No wrong.....a superbox with all the reissues for example Prince works from 1977-1989 + outtakes...demos.. extended versions ...rare stuff etc.. + gooddies in one and only one limited package in the style of Pink Floyd reissues would sell well because u point at only fan's marcket !

Nah, would love to have that, but, they need to look at what would sell to the masses before anything like that happens.

CLASSIC times/music is always a money maker and people are exploring the 70s 80s is ravenous ways. I think from Purple Rain and working it's way outward(backward and forward is the way to go)

at least 2 a year is perfect. and maybe a 3rd from the Piano & Mic tour DVD/CD set and going backwards.

Concert DVDs Video DVDs are a must.

There will be a SOTT box... eventually. SOTT and 1999 are the two best chances for WB/the estate to mine his collection for deluxe packaging. The problem is that contractually, this is going to take some time, so don't expect it to happen for another year or so at the earliest.

My guess is that it will be a 4 CD set including a disc of b-sides/remixes and a disc of SOTT/DF/CB outtakes like the PR deluxe set, but most fans will have most of the items on this release already. Don't expect them to come out with a bigger super deluxe set just yet.

If WB follows how Rhino has compiled The Monkees CD reissues, we'd all be very happy. They are doing it right.

But again, all of this is contingent on if the PR deluxe does well. If it doesn't sell like they hope, all future deluxe sets are in jeopardy because PR is as close as they have to a 'sure thing'.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

We don't have the extended version of Adore and the longer different mix version of the Ballad of Dorothy Parker....so yes there are Trax not in circulation and maybe other outtakes...extended versions...alternate takes even not known by collectors and fans.....remember about Electric Studio demo version and Father's song long version!

agreed 100%. That is why I think that we'll already have MOST of what is being placed, like with the PR collection. I'm really excited about getting anything from WB/The Vault. I wish it was on my schedule (lol) but I'm good with them getting it right.

Well. 'rare' or 'non album'. Just a tag to differentiate between stuff that was released, but not on the album.

I didn't miss off the full Shockadelica, I was simply keeping space to a premium. It's on the Camille disc.
