How many feel that "Sign O' The Times" should've had a deluxe edition first?

It's the 30 th anniversary of this legendary album.
This is the one album that you can argue is right there
with PR.
I understand though that the PR deluxe was overdue, Since 2014.
It would've been cool to get a SOT deluxe to celebrate
Its 30 yrs.

Of course SOTT needs to remastered but first? I don't think so.maybe to the hardcore fans but WB knows that Purple Rain has the chance of selling the best and it is Prince's best known album to the general public .If sales go well for PR remastered then I'm sure we will get SOTT some day.

If nothing else, SOTT is in serious need of a remaster. The volume differences I've heard between songs from the digital versions make it difficult to listen to.

But yeah, for marketing purposes, PR just makes more sense to get a deluxe edition. Then probably 1999 and other records to follow.

What I don't get is why they couldn't do more than one at once. I'm a big Elvis Costello fan, and they fairly recently released deluxe versions of most of his catalog, and he's hardly a big seller. If the money so recently seemed to be there for him, then it has to be there exponentially for Prince.

My only guess would be issues with the estate and the vault are slowing things down.

I would say SOTT should be the next reissue, before 1999 imo.

-Sign O' the Times album remastered
-Dream Factory
-Crystal Ball 3 album set
-Sign O' the Times film + outtakes
That would be 5-6 CDs plus 1 DVD. Yes, of course it would mean we'd have the same songs several times over, but it would be one hell of a box set! And don't say there's no market for it! Columbia Records released a 4 CD box of Bob Dylan's Self Portrait and that's one of the most hated albums of his carreer! So imagine what can be done with one of Prince's most loved albums...

Patience dear, patience.

.

Purple Rain is THE one for the general public, we all know it and that's why it came first. The simultaneous number one album, single and movie, the oscar winning soundtrack, the album that was number one for nigh on 6 months? It deserves the honour.

If you think all the albums are going to be coming out soon in deluxe editions. Wrong. There is no market unfortunately

besides, WB does not have the rights to the movie. Would be great if there was finally a proper concert release of the SOTT tour instead of that lipsync fiasco with those annoying segues..

agreed. let's wait for other remasters until the estate is settled and all parties
can join forces and work together how when and if they want to, to assemble
the best and most extensive packages for each album.

i'd rather wait another few years and have it done right nod

I agree. SOTT is the album that deserves a little more attention. It's a masterpiece. PR is great of course, but it feels like it's a bit overplayed.

SOTT must be next, is regarded as his best album or the most important one.

I think SOTT is his best album ever, but Purple Rain will always be associated with him first when it comes to non-fans (and fans love it too).

Not first, no way. They were right to choose Purple Rain as the first deluxe. So many exciting releases coming our way. I can't wait!

Deluxe edition? No. the album is a masterpiece on its own.Sure the b sides are fantastic but having them all in one package is a rehash.Warner wont release a deluxe edition. NO WAY. Warner have no confidence in anything other than P R. I hope im wrong but im pretty sure we are all well aware of Warner and how they think about Prince music, its a product to be sold and who cares about the fans.

I don't think the album could have a proper deluxe edition like Purple Rain.

.
I do want one though as in the released album, Bsides/long version

I don't think SOTT officially has outtakes (unless there is one two I'm missing) is Sex an outtake?

.

I think the Camille set that Prince had pressed and the June configuration of the Dream Factory should be released in connection

Considering the circmstances, it makes the most sense for Purple Rain to get a deluxe treatment. It's his most well known album and had been in the gun for awhile.

Have Warners even acknowledged the possibilty of more Deluxe releases? They recently reissued a bunch of the albums in the past few years, I picked up Sign O' The Times on vinyl recently. (Dissapointed that it wasn't a gatefold like Parade)

This is probabaly the most they're willing to do.

In an ideal world, 1999, Parade and Sign O' The Times would all get expanded releases. I say those because they have the highest chance of yielding supplemental material and selling well, opposed to the others.

As long as people actually buy PR and don't download it for free, then they might think about doing SOTT.

Thinking as a record label executive, maybe the remaster/release order would be something like this...

.

1) Purple Rain (a no-brainer)

2) 1999 (his breakthrough album)

3) Sign 'O' The Times (critically acclaimed)

4) Diamonds & Pearls (his last big seller)

5) Batman OST (***if*** they feel like celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film in 2019)

.

For what it's worth, this isn't my personal list. I want them in this order:

.

1) Purple Rain

2) Sign 'O' The Times

3) Lovesexy

4) Batman OST

5) 1999

6) Around The World In A Day

7) Dirty Mind

8) Parade

9) Controversy
