I thought of this but why than don't they call The Dance Electric or Our destiny/Roadhouse Garden Studio Versions because all the bootleg collectors have those live versions.

Well, we should have the studio of Our Destiny/Roadhouse already, but yeah, that's a good point. Can't say it really bothers me though.

While I'm speaking about Roadhouse, I'm hoping that the version here is different to the one which leaked last year as that sounds a bit unfinished to me. Either way though, I'm really looking forward to this release.

It only sounds unfinished because it's mono from one channel.
The one on PR deluxe will most likely be the same one but obviously a proper stereo version with the missing channel, which contains Lisa backing vox and some extra instrumentation

30/35 euros for one disc of unreleased music no thanks. Are they crazy ?

I hoped there was the two lives in blu ray - but schokingly, there is only 1 dvd (!!). We are not in 2004 anymore...What is the point in remastering a video tape in 2017, if it is not for a HD release ?

That still proves WB can't make a real good deluxe edition, even more than one year after Prince's passing...and this is for Purple Rain ! The only Prince popular album worldwide.

.

WB missed the point, like Sony missed the point with MJ's posthumous release. Commercially, MJ's release never recovered from it, to the point where they don' even want to release unreleased track anymore. Because nobody buys them.

.

WB could make a music video of EI, using footage from the live version. But they won't do that. They are really lacking commercial sense.

I can't believe they waited more than one year for this disappointment. It could have easily been released last year.

Don't know why they're claiming €30/€35 is it's actually €18.99 for the two disc version on amazon.de, which seems fine to me for the remaster and the new disc.

I've pre-ordered on www.fnac.com in France. €21.99 3cd+1dvd. Strange, when you search it returns untitled album with no artist name. When I select the album the it shows the artwork and correct title. The same for the vinyl version €19.99, except it says remastered version. I'm going to snap it up before they change their minds on the price. It will be my birthday present this year.

I wonder if we'll see some of the tracks appear from collectors in the coming weeks now that their value is about to be wiped out.

Also, am I the only one that thinks The Dance Electric should feature on an ATWIAD remaster and not PR? It was clearly recorded post PR and in the sessions that led to ATWIAD and The Family.

i told you they would let us down. Warners statements are shocking.

They love the rehash and 7" edits.

They were supposed to deal with estate and get a descent release done. this is even worse than i expected. I imagine Estate wanted deal with universal.

i would have rather paid more and a better release but £20 is descent price.

They just seem to do as little as possibe. Most is already release so took stuff that needed the least work to get to descent standard.

This was purple rain deluxe so i expected more from them. they have done slightly more than there hits until 93 usual still dissapointment as this was the holy grail and could have done a better job.

Well, I am gutted...

.

I soooo wanted a properly released version of the First Avenue gig on DVD - over and above the Syraceuse concert, fabulous as that may be.

.

I like the 'studio' EI - but the First Avenue live version is breath-taking - I'd have liked to have had them both in physical format, highest quality possible, to compare.

.

WB has let me down on this - I am sure I can't be the only one...I could kind of forgive the '2 albums of unreleased material' as what we have is a conventional 2 albums' worth - on one CD. However, the failure to deliver the 2 concerts (as was widely believed was coming) isn't really acceptable, to my mind anyway. sad

I agree. I think they have grouped together by style rather than date of recordings (ie Dance Electric sounds like it could have fitted on Purple Rain).

Still can't believe the deviation from the original press release! I bet no explanation will be forthcoming either!

[Edited 4/28/17 4:51am]

It was supposed to be released in 2014 for the 30th anniversary.

But Prince only delivered it to them in 2015 ?!

.

I still don't understand why WB accepted to release AOA / PLEC ELEC instead. That is an obvious lack of commercial sense.

Or, like I repeat since 2014, it's because Prince only accepted to give 2 or 3 songs. There was also supposed to have huge promotion "a la Diamonds and pearls" according to Funk-U at the time. I still think WB sat on it, simply because without Prince's involvement and promotion, it was not worth selling it.

.

Now that he's dead, they can pick the songs they want in their personnal vault. Because Prince gave them some songs that were initially supposed to be on the album. WB was always involved with the selection of tracks of his albums, even with COME. And remember the SOTT and 1999 episode, a 3 disc set that were cut into two.

.

I don't think WB have the original tape. I could be wrong on this. But they are supposed to be in the vault, still unlocked. This is all bootleg, that they enhanced to some degree.

Official press release, per Dr. Funkenberry:

http://www.drfunkenberry....pre-order/

This is all amateurism here : WB says that PURPLE RAIN sold 13 millions in the US. But his sales exceded 15 million, and are probably now standing at 15.7 millions. By the end of the year, it will reach the 16 million mark in the USA (if they ever promote it, of course eek )

.

Wouldn't it be the right time for WB to recertify this album ? It will make great publicity to officially reach the 15 million mark, and recertify it some weeks later with the 16 million mark.

.

PURPLE RAIN is in fact one the 15 best selling album of all time in the USA. This is not uninteresting in a press release to communicate. This would be a good reminder that Prince was a huge seller.
