What a sad statement he made to Tamron Hall.

I was just thinking about the Revolution interview in which all the members basically agreed that Prince was otherworldly, almost reptilian. I do think they loved him but I think none of them understood him entirely. His uniqueness is inspiring but also it is isolating. Don't get me wrong, they saw his humanity in increments but never did they see it long enough without the artifice or "brilliance" for them to entirely get past their awe and wonder of him. Just when he started to show himself truely exposed, the makeup was applied and the cryptic, poetic expression of his feelings was expressed rather than just direct cathartic confession and openness.

Prince's uniqueness, music, charisma and influence were everywhere in that circle but Prince Rogers Nelson in all of his original humanity was shrouded in hyperstylized and hermatically sealed artistic expression of his "self". Prince was everywhere. PRN was often nowhere that was within reach. It almost like his death (for all its mystery) is what reminds of us that he was not a magical creature but a lonely man with a talent that at times was a burden. (not always a burden. Obviously, talent has advantages)

It's life and life only. And that was his life don't worry, he is not lonely anymore.

I don't think most people understand others entirely. Individuals don't understand themselves entirely. We are always finding out new stuff about ourselves good and bad.

There are people who are more together and know who they are and what makes them tick and turn.

I do understand that the lyrics have some biographical elements but he really doesn't admit his vulnerabilities (except for the line about knowing about pain and rejection). He basically lays down everything he has regretfully had to sacrifice or live through in order to obtain 'victory'...to make something out of himself. I like that there are indications of sadness ('saying goodbye to people you love') but he never explains why he needs to accomplish so much, or describes any self doubts, mistakes, or specifically what pain and rejection he experienced in more recent years.
