If Prince released a covers album - YOU pick the tunes!!!

Man, I would have loved to see Prince release a covers album. What songs would you have liked him to cover? YOU pick! 12 songs max!

Here's mine:

3. Ask - The Smiths

4. Whenever You're On My Mind - Marshall Crenshaw

5. I Know I'm Losing You - The Temptations

6. Them Changes - Buddy Miles

7. Just Like Heaven - The Cure

8. The A Team - Ed Sheeran

9. I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreignor

10. Spaceman - The Killers

11. Rain - Patty Griffen

12. A Day In The Life - The Beatles

He's covered hundreds of songs live, and a small handful on record. It's hard to find good ones he hasn't plowed into already in some fashion. But...

The one cover I want to hear, if it exists, is "Like A Prayer". If he did his own version of "Bad" from MJ, I wanna hear that too.

The Beatles - When I'm 64 (he's good at those quirkly little songs; or Can't Buy Me Love)

Elvis Presley - A Little Less Conversation

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide

Duran Duran - Say A Prayer (or Electric Barbarella, which sorta seems obvious in a funny way)

Steely Dan - Black Cow

Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music

The Cure - Friday I'm In Love

They Might Be Giants - Don't Let's Start

Adam Ant - Wonderful

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

For me I'd want him to do 'Dark Side of the Moon' the whole album.

'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' and 'Wish You Where Here'. All from Pink Floyd.

Plus

'Barracuda' and 'Magic Man' [He would need to change the lyrics a little] from Heart.

And

Pat Benatar's cover of 'Wuthering Heights' [again, he would need to change the lyrics a bit].

Pat Benatar's 'Invincible' & 'Shadows of the Night'.

OOOOHHH, this would be awesome!!!

'Shadows of the Night'!!!

I have a feeling he could REALLY take this tune to the next level.

My list would be, assuming Prince had these mastered and raring to go before last April

1 Don't let me down - The Beatles (reserve Strawberry fields forever - guitar heavy version)

2 Life on Mars? - David Bowie (reserve young americans)

3 Why can't I be you - The Cure

4 Castles made of sand - Jimi Hendrix (his villanova junction was fine, also little wing or are you experienced as reserves)

5 karma Police Radiohead

6 Maybe your baby -Stevie Wonder (he has covered it before)

7 Benny and the Jets - Elton John

8 Symphony in Blue - Kate Bush

9 The River - Joni Mitchell

10 Since i've been loving you Led Zeppelin

11 Estranged (Guns n Roses with a reserve of Civil War)

AND

I just want to acknowledge already metioned songs - If you want me to stay - sly and the family stone (One of my favorite songs ever)

Like a prayer (in the vault as previously stated) and Bad (his i'll show Michael version)

November Rain (Prince don't need the band, he is the band or NPG power trio (bland and Sonny T)

Save a Prayer (Duran Duran) this is an incredible song posted by another user and Prince would slay it. Especially the chorus.

Landslide - Flleetwood Mac was a fantastic suggestion from another poster, I liked his version of Fleetwood Macs the Chain too.

I was not a fan of Prince releasing covers on his albums when he had so much material hidden away but, if we're going to play the game...:

The Christians - Hooverville

QOTSA - Lost art of keeping a secret

Eagles of Death Metal - (I Used To Couldn't Dance) Hot Pants

Sistermidnight- Iggy Pop

Jump Into the Fire- Harry Nillson

the Dream- Culture Club

Think It Over- The Cars

Do You Dream in Color? Bill Nelson

Magic- Olivia Newton John

Crosseyed and Painless- Talking Heads

The Makings of You- Curtis Mayfield

The Whole of the Moon- The Waterboys

Am I the only one who had a hard time picking rnb and funk songs? Sly Stone and James Brown seemed too obvious. Funkadelic is hard to do without sounding like Funkadelic. Prince always sounded best playing his own brand of funk and soul.

Yes to the highlighted above, Sister midnight is a groove that could do with some 1999 era minneapolis funk and the Dream is one of the best Culture Clubs and could fit a dreamy Parade era (maybe even with Clare Fischer strings)
