Oh, and tea. In a fancy teacup. Some lace. Some leather. Some wtf is THAT, Batman. Also, Batman. And green hair. How about that Gangsta Glam, tho.
Okay, I'ma stop and let you all get back to the serious influences and maybe drink some more coffee.
On a more serious note, wasn't Sly and the Family Stone an influence? I think someone posted them on here already, but I seriously cannot remember how they look for some reason.

You think his influences is a weird thread. Have you seen some of the other threads here on the org? | |

Yes, this is a great thread. Very accurate so far. I’ll opt for Junie – another huge talent that we lost recently.
...and Kate ("Sunrise Sunset" really took me aback).

Curious to hear how Suicide figures into the making of Prince. My brother used to listed to Suicide and I learned to really appreciate them. Ghostrider, Frankie Teardrop, Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champaigne - ahhh memory lane.

Have never heard Prince say it, but I heard somebody else mention some similarities back in the day. When i listened to songs like Frankie Teardrop, it immediately took me to the intens build ups and screams on less melodical songs like Something In The Water Does Not Compute. Then on more melodical songs like Papa and God, his screaming is something very different from "normal" soul and funk screams. You can hear that it's not just taken from James Brown, Sly etc. This approach has all of that in it, but is even on a bit of some punk/noise avant garde type of stuff. Did Prince ever mention Betty Davis? They appear to be a perfect fit.
