The Gold Experience. Prince's Best Album Of The 90s By A Mile. Discuss. So many awesome songs. No album since Purple Rain had a many hook-filled singles. The production is rich and sonically dynamic.

I prefer Come...though the song Gold has grown on me over the last few years
Come feels a bit more gritty and heartfelt, less over the top merf

Not even near being the best of the 90's imo. Shhh, TMBGITW, Dolphin, Shy, I Hate U and Gold are the only listenable tracks to my ears. The NPG operator shite and things like P.Control, Endorphine, We march and Now are awful.

I agree, Gold Experience is the finest P album in the 90s. Prince 4Ever. ![]()

I prefer Come myself but yeah, these days I mostly just play The Dawn.

a couple of track substitutes and yes =its true

Original version of EM was an absolute rock monster. I have no idea why he overdubbed the hell out of it for TGE.
P Control was cool at the time.

Ahhhh, The Dawn. Now THAT is a masterpiece...... what the mid 90s shoulda and coulda been...... [Edited 5/17/17 19:12pm]

Mid 90s = Great era for Prince. The Gold Album was wonderful but the versions of those songs that were circulating a year or two before release were even better. He did polish it up a bit too much.

Agreed. Same for C&D a year later. I did enjoy the dubbed up TMBGITW from TGE more than the original version from 94 tho...

has the full 17 track version leaked ???

It's definitely one of his best albums of the 90s but I prefer Come ![]() Welcome 2 The Dawn

I usually just consider Come and Gold a double album. It seems the songs were all interchangeable on different configurations. I'm not a fan of the organs, the unpolished leaked versions were better. This time period was amazing though & there were a lot of good memories in 95 (First Paisley Party). Gold will always be special to me.

To some extent I find them the pair "Black Album"+"Lovesexy" of the 90's.

I too also prefer Come. It's not over produced in the way TGE is. Plus the Come album frankly has aged far better than TGE. __________________________________________________

I know it's fan made but I think it's a great compilation (I know databank loves it too!) from that era including out-takes, remixes and sparser earlier versions (and better IMO) of the likes of Gold and EndorphinMachine

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

nope. | |

For "Gold", instead, differently from many other fans, I never had any problem with the TGE released version: I love it so much that any other outtake of it seems empty to my ears.

The Gold Experience is still in my top 5 of favorite albums by P. It's definitely a shame it's not more well known...Maybe one day it will be. Exiles of the Nation

Agreed,
loved the whole era... the radical change in musical style, the name change, man those were the days.
There's not a bad note on that album and I love how every song builds on the previous one. Definitely a concept album done right. Even the segues don't bother me... After playing the video-game the whole VR concept worked for me.
Come - Gold - emancipation is the trilogy I always think of when it comes to 90's prince. and 90's prince was frkn awesome! It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

I agree. I love the Truth.
But I would definitely follow it with the Gold Experience. It is a little to strong on Tommy B keyboards at times but still great songs.
Hears how I like to listen to the nineties Prince... 1.) The Truth 2.) Gold Experience 3.)my compilation of the best songs of Graffiti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls 3) my own compliation of half of the songs and Emancipation Love Symbol 4.) my own compilation of my favorite songs from Come, and Crystal Ball. 5.) my own compliation of my favorite songs from Crystal Ball, Chaos and Disorder and the Undertaker

The songs in this album takes me to a whole entire different world. It's even more a plus of you figure out choreography to the songs. The guitar range on few chains on gold is insane and I have heard nothing like it. 7 is a fun song to choreograph. My name is Prince is not only great rapping but hilarious as well. The operator is hilarious. I LOVE the Continental. It's one of my favorite songs although I can't pick just one.
