The only part I think about "what could have been" is the choir in "Deliverance". I think back to how he used Sounds of Blackness on "The Future". It sounds nice in Deliverance, but generic in some way that i can't put my finger on... WOW, So it wasn't just me. I really like the song the choir threw me off a bit Ive heatd Prince use the Steele's on Willing and Able and Still Would Stand All Time. And obove all else I've always been captivated when Prince layers/multi tracks his own voice for backgroundvocals This doesnt sound like The Steeles, Sounds of Blackness or Prince. It sounds cool Im assuming he had a choir come in and do the background vocals since Prince's death. It is one of the best unreleased songs by Prince that Ive heard. Stronger than a lot of what he's released as a single in 10yrs.

I am not sure about ´masterpiece´, but the first thing I thought when I heard the EP was ´why didnt Prince release more interesting stuff like this" because to me it´s better than lots of things he released since 2010...

Another exciting aspect of the Deliverance EP is that it apparently was made during a period which up till now seemed like one of Prince's least inspired times. Planet Earth was perhaps his blandest release ever, so it is good to know that even during this period his creative juices were still flowing. Indeed, the rawness of his voice did remind me of the 1980s. It is also promising in that it suggested that it will not just be the unreleased stuff from the 1980 and 1990s that will be interesting to discover should the vault material ever be unleashed.

The exception of the Planet Earth song, somewhere here on Earth and to a lesser extent Chelsea Rogers, I am not a big fan of PE as an album..."Guitar" is catchy but repetitive.
I do however love 3121 so I don't agree that 2006-2008 was bland. Unless, 3121 was actually recorded in 2005 (probably was, so nevermind)

Yes, it's good, it sounds to me like in a similar vein to the track 'Planet Earth', perhaps he replaced it with that. Oddly there's an edit in the 50 sec snipped in the Fbook video that seems to improve the flow compared to the same section in the full version.

. Agree. I like 3121. But dont like Planet Earth much. I think Deliverance EP is much more interesting.

I tell you...the stuff Prince would noodle on before noon in the studio and then order Papa John's. Why didn't he release this when it came out??? Agree totally. This is excellent work. This would have made a great 'last album (sort of) if it had been released before his death. 'Goosebumps' is the best description. Prince at the top of his game. 'Liberate My Mind'

I sure would. The Estate should have worked up a deal to trap the rights and sell it on their own. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

The estate SHOULD have released an untouched version. But, hey, there's more photo books, tambourines and reality shows to market, right?

The Estate didnt have the versions Ian re-recorded and overdubbed. Ian stated that he only added, edited and retouched some of it as of recently himself. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Be careful. If the powers that be see everyone saying that we may get the Tupac treatment. new producers butchering classic songs will be the norm. Deliverance would have benn a guitar and keyboard with a vocal. That other dude did everything else. I don't even consider it a Prince song, it's a song featuring Prince.

"I am" is a great track, indeed.

. He did a totally straightforward choir arrangement on Deliverance and added a few instruments on I Am to make his "extended version" a little less stupid as it is simply a cut&paste job. .

It's no masterpiece in my opinion, but it IS really interesting nonetheless, and also it is just wonderful beyond words to hear new music from Prince in 2017. Lyrically it's quite overtly "Christian rock" which honestly, is not my thing even slightly.

THis song has continued he'd to grow on me just like almost all other Prince's CS music. At first I said to a friend, "I just can't warm up to it." Never thought I would. But fairly quickly, it DID grow on me.

His singing is really what astounded me here. He lets it rip with abandon. I love that.
The song is religious but generous as if to say, it looks like the shit has hit the fan but this only indicates that God will come save us so keep calm and give in. I don't necessarily agree but sometimes when Prince gets preachy, I believe he is trying to convince himself as well as everyone else.
