Should the Grammys do a 'Salute' TV special to Prince?

Do you guys think the Grammys commitee should do a TV special Salute to Prince? I feel they should! Think about it, they can get the people he worked and collaborated with and have other artists do some of their favorite songs of his. What you guys think?

No, I've had about enough of the tributes, and other people trying to sing his songs, just doesn't work out very well at these tributes.

After seeing Bruno Mars put on a Halloween costume, I think I've had my fill of Grammy tributes.

No. These tributes end up becoming very pretentious and embarrasingly derivative like Bruno Mars performance of "Let's Go Crazy" at the Grammys this past year. Prince was very forward thinking, so seeing and hearing tributes that are calculated by TV producers would be off putting at least to me.

And Madonna. They've cocked it up twice.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

LoL so true
He did look kind of ridiculous. It's crazy that Prince was the only person able to pull off looking cool in those clothes. I've seen other guys try to dress like him and they all look like cheap, ill fitting Halloween costumes. Please, Let's not do anymore tributes.

No. I'm tired of tributes. It only reminds us of a couple of harsh realities:

  1. No one can perform a Prince song like Prince, and shouldn't even try
  2. Prince is dead

Even looking back at Sheila's, it seemed rushed and ill-planned. People loved it because Mayte and the Twinz were there, and then the guitar, and Jerome. But - meh. With so many tributes happening, it makes them all pedestrian, and not special. It cheapens the brand.

There's no fucking way I want 2-hours of people trying to bark their way through "Purple Rain" or "Nothing Compares 2 U" again. Cuz you know they'll get all the acts on stage at the end trying to sing either of those songs, and it'll be a hot fucking mess like is every other time they do that for someone.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

No, they should do nothing, any attempt will just fail as all have done in the past. Bruno Mars dessed up as Prince? Who signed off on that crap? Laughable and more about Bruno selling records than any respect for Prince.

If any tributes need to be done, do them without music, talk about the man and his influence in a well done on point video montage.

Apparently they wanted to but because the Estate was/is such a mess they couldn't work anything out.

I get all the reasons not to do it and don't really disagree, still he deserves it about as much as anybody and it will probably never happen. sad
