This was very hard as Dirty Mind and Controversy are both excellent albums with genre defining songs. These albums are the first true genius level works from Prince. Dirty Mind is incredible the whole way through, and Controversy starts off even stronger, but loses steam near the end.

Dirty Mind is a better album, but Controversy is still excellent too, and the first 3 tracks of Controversy outstrip anything on Dirty Mind. But as far as consistent quality and shock value go, Dirty Mind prevails. I think anyone getting into Prince, needs both of these albums.

DM - 2, Controversy - 6.

It really would be closer than this on a whole album basis. Most of these are very close (except for Do It All Night/Do Me Baby and Sister/Annie Christian), and some might have gone the other way on a different day. When You Were Mine would always come out on top--but Sexuality is the second best track on Controversy (and maybe some days just plain the best); So of the clear winners, 1 is DM and 2 are Controversy--most days Controversy would probably manage to get more wins, just maybe not always by this large a margin.

It lost in my head-to-head, but I agree about it working well on the tour.

"Do It All Night" is definitely overlooked....that bassline is so low-key funky

same thing with the song that follows it...i never see "Gotta Broken Heart Again" get any love ... thats one of the very first songs i learned how to play on guitar...always been one of my favorite songs on Dirty Mind
