Yeah alright, that's fair. I guess i'm not willing to take a chance that such a project will ever come to fruition.

. I'm sorry that you didn't like it that I had the hubris to defend my position. 'Possessed', the version most are discussing, ain't a Purple Rain outtake, and that's just the way that it is. No special authority or knowledge is necessary to reach the right conclusion on that. . [Edited 3/5/17 12:33pm]

. I'm not disparaging the demo. But he has much more exciting alternate, demo and outtake material that would more deservedly occupy its place on the Deluxe release. Even most casual fans have by now heard it, and I am not certain how the general public is likely to be moved by showing that he had the arrangement already worked out on the piano one or two years earlier. There are better selections they could use to illustrate the creative process, if that's what they're going for. . I'm not aware of any other studio version of 'Baby, I'm a Star', other than an unedited version of the released track, with the 'Is there are party in here tonight?' interplay with the crowd. . r these titles anybody heard of before???

. Both sound suspiciously org-ishly ungenuine. Are we supposed to believe that, perhaps, 'Mighty Will Rise', is some very early conception of 'Purple Rain'?. .

. Out of curiosity, in the intermediate term at least, what do you imagine the Estate will do with all the miscellaneous and scattered outtakes that do not make it to a deluxe or remastered album re-release? . [Edited 3/5/17 12:53pm]

[Edited 3/5/17 12:53pm] I think in the long term they will be published as part of a Prince-anthology series.

Not for nothin', but "Phone Call With Jonathan" (or whatever it's called) could be from UTCM/Parade era... with the "Jonathan" track being him singing Happy Birthday, so... there's that. Could be at least some of the listing is incorrect or fabricated.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh I haven't a clue, what they should do and what they will do I see as poles apart, I don't have a lot of faith in them. I'm not holding my breath for well-made outtake anthologies anyway.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. If the tracklist is to be believed, 'Phone Call to Jonathan' is wedged between the two earliest or most basic parts of the rareties disc, the 'Baby I'm a Star' early demo and a rehearsal run-through of 'Purple Rain', after going through a litany of fuller studio outtakes or versions. . Jonathan D. Wolf was the accountant (and a production assistant) on this project (and later GB as well). . If the tracklist is real, then perhaps it's some kind of bearing of good news 'and the rest is history', greenlight call for the film and project, or P discussing his ambitions for the project, or both-- some kind of pivotal, life- and pop culture history-altering moment captured in an otherwise obscure (and at the time uneventful) recorded conversation. . It is much more likely to be fabricated or incorrect, though. It smacks of an imitation of that whole 'Christopher', 'Joey Coco', 'Dear Uncle George', 'Wally', etc. name-based Prince titling habit. . where is "G-Spot"? that song must be included. It is a real outtake from Purple Rain.An early script of the movie shows The Kid and the Revolution performing it (instead of "Computer Blue" which came later)

. Yes this. . If this is a real, or near-real tracklist, one is forced to wonder to what extent P's religious convictions, and any petty legal/business/personal entanglements stemming from the song having already been released in some form, have influenced the decision making. . Or maybe he thought of it as a Vanity 6 thing, that happened, only briefly, to be put back on the list of possible candidates for his own album and film. . Or perhaps, in his view, the song was freed from the Vault in 1987, and no further action is warranted (he's not one likely to cater to all the aronaky/nerdish interest in multiple versions, or, truthfully, in outtakes altogether). . Or maybe it really will be on the Deluxe release. . [Edited 3/5/17 15:11pm]

I'm just surprised that there was no news about re releasing the movie with this adding bonus and deleted scenes and updated legacy interviews with the cast and revolution, not that half assed anniversary release they did with the PR DVD a while back...

I have a mixed feeling about this if it is the real tracklist (but I doubt it is) so not sure if I will buy it sunce there is way to much released stuff on it. Album 3 seems ok but not interesting and I'm disappointed with album 2 Welcome 2 The Dawn

No extended 17 days, no G-Spot, no Possessed (any version), only one version of God, will they have the cop-on to include the extended Another Lonely Christmas?

What do legal issues have to do with sourcing? If they don't own the rights, they can't release them. If they do, they are allowed access to the master/ dupetapes. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I'm literally talking physical access to the tapes themselves. I don't follow the family stuff too closely but anytime I take a glance it's just an ongoing shitshow. Maybe it's all sorted and professionals are busy archiving everything and it's all running smoothly.
