The strangest creations by Prince

Prince has done some interestng songs that make you stop and think. And then there are some where you go.."what the...??!!" Case in point..."Elephants and Flowers", "Starfish and Coffee" and "Tangerine".
Can anyone decipher these songs? And what do you think are Prince's most bizarre songs?

I think "Expert Lover" is one of his oddest creations...it just sprawls out in its length and diverse sounds...it's strange but a PURE masterpiece

Expert Lover? what song is that?

Others Here With Us is not that strange, really. It sounds like a demo some kid made after watching Friday the 13th.

Strange would be "When I Lay My Hands On You," "Wasted Kisses," "New Position," "What's My Name"

etc.

Expert Lover = Crystal Ball (it was often referred to incorrectly as Expert Lover on very old bootlegs).

I'd agree that is one of the most "out there" songs.

In terms of popular artists, Prince is well out there, to be put in the same league as MJ and Madonna, it's clear to see that Prince is certainly not the same sort of pop music artist as those two.

When I first heard this song, I had a vision of Prince walking through Alice's Wonderland and coming across a pill that said "eat me". Once he popped it he grew to 20 feet tall but it wasn't his actual height that changed, he remained the same height, while his shoes grew 15 feet in height evillol

I was just about to say that too. He has many weird songs
so I wouldn't know which one I consider the strangest of
them all, but "Had U" has a certain something that I had
never expected Prince would do.

It's early King Crimson and the mellotron is wicked. The
fade-out is so beautiful. I always turn my stereo up to
maximum capacity as soon as it starts to fade out, just
to hear those sounds. Beautiful Strange indeed!!!

This song has indeed a hypnotic quality to it... Like it a lot... He could have made it a little longer to work it out as a full track, methinks... but not that long so to keep the strange vibe intact...

Beautiful Strange does the same effect on me... Some kind of beauty found in sadness and chaos...

redface yah, that's right, even though I have the crystal ball, I haven't broken the habit of calling it "Expert Lover" since that is what I knew the song as for 10 years or so...

Extra Loveable: Why in God's name did Prince talk about rapin that girl? Still creeps me out.

Girl is real weird but brilliant.

We all have to admit that Condition Of The Heart is a strange ballad--masterpiece, but strange.

Actually the backwards stuff after Darling Nikki is fucking trippy.

The hallway extented part of Computer Blue is really crazy. And dig that Hendrixy guitar shit. Wow.

But There's Others Here With Us is my favorite weird song of his: It is scary as fuck, and the most original thing he ever did. Too bad he rarely digs this deep.

i'd have 2 say Tamborine does it 4 me: i get the fact that its all a metaphor 4 a womans Vagina *gags* ill but...what the HELL does:
'i dont care 4 one night stands, and trolley cars that juggle 17' mean?

Does it actually mean ANYTHING? confuse Or was he just having a bad rhyming day - and THAT was the best he could come up with? lol

i think he's just basically saying he doesn't want to sleep around (one night stands), and for trolley car, substitute tramp...a girl juggling (dating) 17 guys. i mean there are a lot of other ways you could go with this, but surely he's talking about promiscuity vs. fidelity here: "i just wanna settle down and play around my baby's tambourine!"

also, the screaming he does at the end here: "long days, lonely nights, too bad we're not allowed to screa-eam!! (nyah, nyah, too bad!)" - that right there has GOT to be one of the coolest 10 seconds of prince EVER.

'Tamborine' is my favorite of Prince's strange cuts as well. As a note of clarification, Prince uses the tamborine in this song as a general reference to sex organs, not just the vagina -- after all, he does talk about being all alone, playing his tamborine...

My best guess regarding your quote above is that Prince was stating that he is not interested in an underage liaison -- sort of a precursor to his '18 & Over' sentiment...
