Man oh man. From the beginning of this net crap crept the stories of how "mean" (lol) Prince was. How his attitude etc was just terrible. How he "mistreated" everyone in his camp. I wonder why nothing was ever mentioned about some in his entourage.Lets see..he gave employment (whether one likes them or not) to his friends who are seen as hangers-on. He even spoke of this in that famed Mojo interview in the eighties about havin these people to feed etc. He brought some folks from his background and town as part of his employ. He gave to several charities --such as the MN Dance troup which much of PR music was recorded, remember? He gave broke Dougie Fresh a job and exposure (not a shining moment to some but the point is he was helping a muthafucka out). He gave band mates such as W&L studio time and allowed them on his creative process. He gave others almost has beens exposure as well as might have never beens. And not all fro their own benefit Im sure but he sure worked them into his groove or projects. Gave them w.o.r.k.

Granted he is no patron saint but his attitude and ego which must be something else are always on display. Im sure there has got to be times when he has been.."nice". sarcasm (just in case). I mean the guy lives and breathes music 24-7..of course he is going to be a harsh task-master...you know what you're getting into when you take the job. The guy had a weird childhood and has issues (like we all do) but maybe he expresses his issues more bluntly because of his lifestyle and work ethic etc. I mean there are lots of bands, artists etc. out there who are a trip to work with Im sure but thats not what always gets plastered in the writings or discussionsabout them.

In essence Prince tries to take care of people more than is let out. Or more than is discussed publicly. I mean sometimes attitude and being a self aware badass rubs some the wrong way but funk it..if u bad then show it.

Not to say that he can't be this or that at times but come on. Most things written or discussed about an artists mainly retains the music as the prominant factor..for some reason with Prince his attuitude or who and how he did people wrong are always displayed prominantly. ANY one or ANY band can have that said about them.

Plus! It probably is so blown out of proportion because of the fun and fondness people have between them and then when certain issues come up and there happens to be negativity it gets blwon up that much more because there may have been that much more love etc...that's how it usually is.

Not saying Prince cant be a trip sometimes but like everyone professes "he's human not a god! quit asskissin "etc., then that means he has foibles AND equal amounts of heart and giving just as much as anyone else. You can't have it just one way.

He gave alot of Folks a Shot&also given back to Marva Collins School in Chicago was Right ON! He also Donated Money for the Dr King Video back in 1985&Gave to Hands Across America as well.building a place like "Paisley Park" was Important for the Minneapolis Community.Quincy Jones Said it best about the Park:if He had have Spend 10 Million In Hollywood Hills with Cocaine then nobody would have said a thing but it's cool He gave back to Where he came from.He has His Good&Bad Sides like everyone else but when you are a Millionaire it's Larger than other folks.He got His Issues but He has done alot for folks through the Years no doubt.

Good post RD I think people blow the bad shit outta proportion & go on crusades against "Prince, the asshole!" Of course I can say this b/c I haven't heard all the stories (true, part true & false) there are to hear about him but I don't care to either.

If somebody crawled up my ass w/ a microscope for 25 years straight, not every moment would be great. Everyone has the capability to be selfish & rude, etc. They also have the capacity to grow & become better people - he's changed in so many other ways, maybe he's made some alterations in the personality dept. as well (if he had any to make)...

And let's not forget how shit can get so grossly twisted ("Prince made a retard cry!", or whatever that thread was called) He's an easy target, I never forget that...
